Blitz: The League dated

Charging into Europe in Feb.

Blitz: The League will hope to take the European Xbox 360 crowd by storm when it crashes into stores on 23rd February, by using all the tact of a fart in a church.

Far from being a snide remark about the game [or funny - Ed], it actually sums up the premise. You see, it's American Football on steroids, with features like a wacky "unleash meter" that lets you slow down time and pull-off impossible plays; it's unlicensed, uncensored, and proud of it.

The campaign mode lets you explore the on-field violence, off-field fallout and front-office politics that the media feeds on, whilst its adrenaline fuelled head-to-heads can be enjoyed both in single-player and multiplayer via Xbox Live.

"Blitz: The League is free of the constraints that an official league license levies against games in this sporting genre," said Martin Spiess, Midway Europe MD. "The result is about as far removed from a clean, fair, sporting experience as it's possible to get."

With over one million units sold in the US, Blitz: The League is clearly a success. Apparently it's not just Americans that want a piece of the action either, with European hunger forcing Midway's hand in bringing the game to PAL territories.

"There's been quite strong demand for it in Europe," a spokesperson from Midway added. "People have said for a while: why aren't you releasing these titles over here? So we're going to give it a go and see what happens."

A demo is expected to thunder for home soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Meanwhile you can hack-squat these latest screenshots for the game.

I had nfl blitz and it rocked in multiplayer. After playing the demo of this, it looks set to re light some old multiplayer moments. So smooth its lumpy :-)

NFL Blitz on the Dreamcast? With elbow drops off the ball? Brilliant :)

Hmmmm... I'm not much of a Football fan but this might be interesting. What we really need though is a 360 version of Deathrow. Ubi?

Got a copy of this before Xmas from the US. It's ok, say 7/10. I prefered NFL Blitz on the Xbox....It's all about Clash ;p

I was sort of dissapointed when it wasn't released on current-gen consoles so I'm pleased it's coming to the Xbox 360 in the U.K. It's the only alternative to Madden which has become increasingly lazy since they secured the NFL license. I played the demo and I liked it if you want an arcade take on football this looks like your best bet.

That demo's been up a few days- a weekish, now? The only thing when I was playing it, was that I wished I had a game manual, to save me from blundering through the two minute quarters...Full game Feb, that's great confirmation.
The last NFL I played was Quarterback Club (64, c. 2000.) Other than that, 2K all the way, till EA stopped that, and now, more footie action with Blitz on 360. :D

@Tomster: I agree about Deathrow, that could be great to see a sequel appear on 360, what with Live being a major force, now. Seeing as you're obviously a fan of the game, have you tried the original in BC? I keep intending to, because that game can be a great deal of fun, and there's nothing else like it that springs to mind... :)

^ 2K are returning with "All Pro Football 2K8" - unspecified "next-gen" consoles, this Summer!

Also, yonno, you're probably right about the budget price...Pro-G are saying Blitz'll be out for £29.99. :)
