Black Rock's new game is Split Second News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Oli Welsh

6 March, 2009

Black Rock - the Disney-owned, UK-based developer of last year's quality quad-bike trick-racer, Pure - is working on another "action racing" game called Split Second.

A trailer for tonight's episode of GameTrailersTV promises an exclusive reveal of the new game, saying "Watch out, Burnout".

The few seconds of footage shown feature customised sports cars tearing through city streets and an exploding petrol station. It does indeed look like a close cousin to Criterion's king of the arcade racing scene.

Black Rock teased the game a couple of weeks ago with a grainier version of the same footage. Now we know what to call it.

Going by the logos on the trailer, it looks like the Split Second is coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Its a tough area to move into, as BO Paradise is overall a stupendous effort, but the studio has a good record in that genre so I'll be watching this with optimism.

Now Burnout's gone all open world (As good as it was) it did put more than a few people off, and to be honest if I had to put money on who may be able to steel it's crown, it would be Blackrock aka Climax!

Can't wait for this!

Very interested in this! Pure was a good game. Technically superb but a little lacking in soul.

I do miss a burnout style game now that burnout is not butnout.

I bet it will have split screen and restarts and all that kind of basic no-racing-game-should-ever-release-without-it type stuff!

Looks a bit generic, but if it's half as good as Pure then i'm sold.

Given that Black Rock poached a fair few members of the Burnout team, you can expect the Burnout "spirit" to be within Split Second to some extent.

Pure was quality - so looking forward to this as long as it isn't open world. Can't be arsed with all the faffing about between races.

If they go back to the simple arcade racing glory of BO1 and BO2 then I'll definitely be buying this...

So it's nothing to do with the Clive Owen TV movie of the same name?

Bah, was looking forward to going slowly insane with guilt after hitting a cyclist and attempting to cover my tracks.

As much as Burnout Paradise was good. I miss split screen racing and the more immediate fun of track racing.

this could well be the game I've been pining for!
