Bizarre issues Blur MP beta patch
Fixes multitude of connectivity issues.
Bizarre Creations has issued a patch for the ongoing Blur multiplayer beta on Xbox Live, which fixes a bunch of performance issues and bugs.
The full changelog is on Bizarre's website, and includes efforts to reduce lag and disconnects, eliminate game lockups and "dirty disc" errors and speed up matchmaking.
Bizarre also notes that it will make changes to the full game after feedback on "wall riding and power-up shuffling". In other words, the developer will reduce the amount of speed you retain while grinding along the wall on the outside of a corner, and will change the order of power-ups in a race.
There's more detail on the latter in a forum post from Gareth Wilson at Bizarre last week.
Blur is Project Gotham Racing developer Bizarre Creations' attempt to rejuvenate the arcade racing genre, through a mixture of power-ups, social networking concepts and contemporary driving game brilliance.
It's due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 28th May, and the multiplayer beta is ongoing.

@Bealsy: Intersting, but won't that take some of the skill out of it? maybe having an option for random weaponswould be cool.

re: shuffling powerups
I gotta agree that if the powerups are always the same ones in the same locations, then the race falls apart -- the lead car turbos endlessly and the pack is left to fight with themselves.
For me the bigger problem is the "fountain to slow the lead car" power-up. Even with random powerups, the lead car ONLY has to worry about this one once they have cleared a good enough lead (usually fairly easy since the other cars are scrumming amongst themselves). For this "fountain" powerup (I forget the official name) to be effective, somebody losing has to sacrifice a powerup slot to get it and use it -- If I'm not in contention for the lead, why would I bother? I'm fighting to move from 9th to 8th, I don't see why I should help 2nd contend for 1st, especially as that extra slot could be directly used to benefit me ("well, I could get a missle to get that bastard in front of me . . . but I'll bypass it to help slow down the race leader"
They need to remove the fountain powerup entirely, and make the effect (the white EMP-esque fountains) an automatic part of the track. If you are leading, you have to deal with those things, and the bigger the lead the more frequently you get bombarded with them.
Or if you want to leave them as a powerup, then add a sniper that takes pot shots at the lead vehicle. If you're not weaving to present a difficult target (and coincidentally killing your speed) then you're gonna take damage. The main issue is that everybody can just concentrate on the racing, and the races can be forced into a competitive posture without "rubber-banding". The track has to inherently keep things tight, rather than leaving all of the responsibility on the racers.
Also, for some unfathomable reason, the power-sliding (in a Bizarre developed game, no less) sucks monkey balls.
Other than that, its pretty fun, especially with all your friends.
