BioWare tinkering with "original IP"?

CV claims project is nearly two years old.

Storyteller BioWare appears to have been working on a game that isn't Star Wars, isn't Mass Effect, isn't Dragon Age, isn't Jade Empire - isn't anything we've previously seen from the developer.

Between January 2008 and June 2009, Daniel Roy was employed by BioWare as a senior producer for an "unreleased original IP".

His LinkedIn profile (spotted by Superannuation) shared no more information about the project.

A similar CV for a lead designer working on an "unannounced AAA project" at BioWare was spotted in the summer.

It's not unusual for a large company to be working on new ideas above and beyond those publicly announced. As to what this game may be, well, BioWare has always appeared keen to make another Jade Empire game.

JE had an awesome story and universe. I'd love bioware to do another game in that.

A Bioware original IP not released by June 2009? That'll be Dragon Age then.

New IP but exactly same game. If you know what I mean!

They should work to expand the world of Jade Empire. Had a steampunky chingaling vibe to it.

Nice of you to link to a 404, EG.

  • TenMinJoe #6 2 years ago

Why even mention his LinkedIn profile if it contains no extra information?

    C) All of the above?

Large development studio possibly making new game that no one knows anything about.

And you managed to eke it out to 6 sentences. Impressive.

I have to question the usefulness of this news article? I mean seriously EG, could you just make a rumours section? Fact is there are likely many other other devs with unnanounced projects that their working on, but name dropping a big Dev with really no details isn't really of any use.

News should be accurate, precise and of public benefit.

Again, the only way I could remotely think of this info being any use if I was an investor.

    EDIT: EarlBasset +23

    isn't Jade Empire

    Ok

isn't anything we've previously seen from the developer

    Fine

    unreleased original IP

    We get the picture.

As to what this game may be, well, BioWare has always appeared keen to make another Jade Empire game

    Huh!?

Maybe you should wrap up that snippet of none information with a sentence that doesn't contradict the "news".

Haven’t eurogamer / gamesindustry.biz learnt their lesson the last time they publicized leaks from someone’s CV and got them fired?

A bit scummy I think and not that useful.
  • hiddenranbir #15 2 years ago

Eurogamer has to report rumour as news because most of what they report is really copying other media outlets.
  • Dexter2015 #16 2 years ago

They got so much games in the work that a new Dragon Age will be take a long time!! So now all they will do is release crapware dlc for dragon age with less them a hour game play!
  • seanm2 #17 2 years ago

There has always been references to an unannouced multi-platform game on Bioware's official website.

I think they willl focus on Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 which should keep two of their Edmonton teams busy for 2-3 years.

There are cutbacks at EA so I can't see them trying to launch a new IP at the moment. There is probably always some prototyping of new ideas happening with a small team of writers and designers. I don't think this game has gone into full production.

It may have been cancelled or postponed. Or they may have come up with better ideas. Or they want to target the next generation of consoles if launching a major IP.

New JadeEmpire? fuck no it was terrible.
  • kongzi #20 2 years ago

Untill June 2009? Sounds like mr. Roy has moved on since then.

@Xanderfish... indeed obviously we don't for some reason or another, possibly. P.S. an edited snappy comment like that makes it look less snappy, possibly.

The new IP from bioware will feature a player created character embarking on an epic quest to save the universe from an ancient evil, with the help of a rag tag band of companions, all the while making moral choices of varying degrees of ambivalence.

Or maybe they're doing a viewtiful joe style 2d beat em up who knows :)
  • SimonM7 #22 2 years ago

Judging by Dragon Age, "original" sounds like a stretch.
