BioShock team recruiting for PS3

Feign surprise.

2K Boston, or Irrational Games as it used to be called, wants people who know how to make things for PS3. And PS2, and GameCube, and Xbox, and Wii.

Yes you could say it is after programmers with experience and know-how on just about every platform in the job section on its website.

However, PS3 familiarity does receive a special mention - prompting the Internet to predict a BioShock port in the none too distant future.

Prophesies it will make a PS3 game somewhere down the pipeline are none too hard to believe. Even if it is happening right under our nose.

Also surprising is the necessity of permission to work in the US. Where the developer is based.

    There's a shocker.

One thing I don't like about the new website, is that the little pictures of the authors have gone :(

"prompting the Internet to predict a BioShock port in the none too distant future"

That is a tough one to call. Its very likely, but equally they could just be building up a PS3 engine. Actually, maybe "equally" likely is stetching things a bit :)
  • myiagros #3 4 years ago

yeah, i hadn't evn spotted that.

Bring back the mini author pics!!

    Feigns suprise.....

As an owner of both consoles I'm happy for this to happen. If only they could change the lame ending and re-work the last half of the game. Heck Konami do directors cuts of games. Why not release a directors cut of BioShock with a new last half and non generic boss battle ending (on both consoles)

  • peterfll #7 4 years ago

Well, it seems eminently sensible to get one of the most critically acclaimed and publicly successful titles from last year on the other main current gen format. Shock indeed.

ps Don't they help new recruits with Visa's is the need be? It's one of those chicken and egg situations surely.
  • Britesparc Verified Creative, ITV #8 4 years ago

If the rumours of a BioShock sequel/prequel are true, I imagine that'll be multiformat and, like Saint's Row, we'll see the follow-up hit the PS3, rather than a port of the original.

I could be wrong though! It has happened before, once, in a bar in Singapore.
  • Erinan #9 4 years ago

I hear the PS3 is now costing $400 (£200)to manufacture so why do we still get charged $800(£400) for it?

Er, bought mine for £280 on Amazon.co.uk?

I'd like Bioshock to get a PS3 port - I don't own a next-gen console yet, and I am feeling quite tempted by the PS3, which I think is looking a lot stronger this year than the 360. Bioshock is one of the major reasons I want a 360.

Given the 'Only on Xbox 360 and Windows' stamp it has (or whatever it says), it couldn't just be a straight port though, eh? I expect some parts would be reworked and it would have a subtitle, like Bioshock: Redemption, or something lame like that.
  • Darren #11 4 years ago

Given how well Unreal Tournament III runs on the PS3 with the optimized UE3, it's surely only a matter of time before this astonishingly grand game is ported over to Sony's flagship machine. And so it should be, it deserves a wider audience, right?
  • Blerk #12 4 years ago

Most of teh internets seem to have been predicting a PS3 version of Bioshock 2 rather than a port of the original, from what I can see. That'd make more sense.
  • dirigiblebill #13 4 years ago

Would be immensely pleased if a port were indeed in the works. Like Triggerhappytel, I've been leaning PS3-wards on the strength of the 2008 release schedule. A 'special edition' content-heavy Bioshock might well be the final straw.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #14 4 years ago

Doesn't Bioshock run on the Unreal 3 Engine? Should make it a bit easier to port it to the PS3. Also from what I hear the PS3 version of UT3 runs really well.

Wouldn't be surprised at all by a Bioshock port, after all it's 'easy' money.
  • miiiguel #15 4 years ago

    PS3 - always late.
We'll be playing in next-next-next-gen, and PS3'ers groupies will be still flooding the net with "OMG! da powa of da c3ll!"...

I predict this will be BioShock with HUGE blu-ray worlds
  • dirigiblebill #17 4 years ago

As opposed to 360 fanboys posting it for them?
  • miiiguel #19 4 years ago

"Also from what I hear the PS3 version of UT3 runs really well"
Yes, it does. And it's really shamefull that it seems to be floping. All my collegues that bought a PS3, seems to play but PES, and CoD, and say "Unreal what? what's that?... I just want to play footy, and shoot a few guys on ultra-easy mode".

When it's MS (or whatever..., I don't do brands) next-next-gen ? the sooner the better mate! I don't run a museum. 10 years life cycle ? No, thank you... very much.

I think Bioshock 2 or some other title is more likely.

Though I'd rather they didn't do a bioshock 2 at all as it will lack the uniqueness that the first one had.

Be nice for them to do something new and make it multiplat.
  • SeesThroughAll #26 4 years ago

Looks at the comments declaring PS3's strength in 2008... looks at the release list and struggles to see why. Well fair enough but for me 360s scheduel is still looking alot better(still yet to join next gen myself as you can guess I totally disagree, not only as a new buyer am I spoit for choice for whats in the library already but upcoming titles for 2008 are looking much more promising and interesting on 360 to me)

I dont know really, Id normally say its good news for gamers but after all the downplaying the insecure Sonybots did, do they deserve to play it? they are still going to see it as a 360/MS game when they play it(its amazing how petty gamers can be, they will deny themselves enjoyment for the sake of fanboyism).

Oh and Mass Effect is published by MS isnt it? I doubt they will allow that to go multiplatform, plus its about time MS held onto some exclusives now(although it is funny watching Sonybots change their tune when certain games get ported), Ive got to say I cant see Sony finnishing anywhere but 3rd place because thats exactly where they should be this gen(looking at it objectively most other companies would have been down and out by now... talk about brand loyalty).

Basically you'r saying that Killzone 2, Motorstorm 2, Little Big Planet, Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4, GT5, UT3 (exclusive for now, and will continue to for a long time), God of War 3, Resistance 2, final Fantasy, Infamous, SOCOM 4, Tekken 6 etc... cannot compete with X360 pseudo exclusive titles, or are weaker in any way??? give me a break man, and you accuse us of fanboysm, only a blind man couldn't see how better the Ps3 is in that department... not to mention the Project Home to be released in 2008, and overall on-line features with multiplayer beign for free.... almost everything is better in Sony's system, reliability included :p

Sorry mate, it's just that your initial post felt rather fanboyish. Especially 'Sonybot'- makes me feel like something out of Dr Who. Hence IRONOMAN stepping in :)

I agree that many gamers let brand concerns blind them to good entertainment (case in point: Apologie), though personally I 'deny myself enjoyment' for the sake of my wallet.

Apologie as impressive as that list may be to you(and Im not about to say they will be bad games at all) theres maybe 3 for me that look truely promising(seperating them from the standard hype for every game released these days) and 1 of them has been roumered to be going multiplatform for a long time(as bioshock was).

Well its pretty easy to accuse YOU of being a fanboy(sure tell us about the other consoles you've owned, like thats relevant) and I dont think anyone liked seeing "us" in your post there(well maybe a couple did I dont pay much attention anymore).

dirigiblebill - Ah Sonybot is a spin on "xbot"(does anyone else put a really nasil, geeky voice to anyone who uses that term? Its the only voice that fits), it's not to be taken too seriously.

Oh and Mass Effect is published by MS isnt it? I doubt they will allow that to go multiplatform...

    ----------------------------------------

No my friend, Electronic Arts announced that they have "acquired" both BioWare and Pandemic Studios. EA cut a deal with Elevation Partners to buy up VG Holding Corp, which owns both companies... Of course, if Microsoft and BioWare plotted a trilogy from the start, Microsoft would have been smart enough to broker an exclusivity deal for all three games, right? It's not simple. BioWare, and in effect EA, owns the Mass Effect IP, not Microsoft.

@Calgon: Ive got to say I cant see Sony finnishing anywhere but 3rd place because thats exactly where they should be this gen...

    ----------------

Well you are not probably aware of the last numbers but Ps3 is outselling even the Wii, is now dominating europe and Japan, and sales increased a lot in the last few months in America... Blu Ray is outselling Hd DVD too.

  • Luvbeers #38 4 years ago

There is still the 360's 2008 line-up to be announced on Feb. 20 at GDC.

BTW. UT3 bombed on both PC/PS3 they are only porting it to the 360 to try and recoup costs, which is unlikely.

I predict GTAIV to be another PS3 disaster as they are yet again rushing the port.

I only see MGS4 and GT5 going for the PS3 this year... not sure what the big deal is about LBP and FFXIVXI.

The PS3 IMO is like your best friends' new born baby. Go over to their house see how cute it is, play with it some, but when you're fed up you just hand it back with no money spent.
  • sharpfish #39 4 years ago

While they are at it they should get someone who knows how to make PC games. XD
  • Calgon #40 4 years ago

Apologie you are nuts, Wii is trouncing the PS3, its selling more than they can make(although I suspect now this is intentional on Nintendos part, theyve used tricks like this before and its worked). Let me guess you are making your assumptions based off a few weeks and ignoring all logic?

Btw(and this is only giving the fanboys a taste of their own medicine) the total is still 8.9 million shipped not sold... oh how does it go? Yeah theyve still got about 3 million in the warehouses and storerooms.(where as for 360 in both US and UK there were accounts of people resorting to second hand consoles because they were sold out in alot of places IIRC)

Post your link anyway, thats the rule: you talk about any figures in such ways, you have to post your source unless... theres holes in your reasoning or its a shitty source?(VGchartz I wouldnt say are shitty but they are far from reliable or accurate).

    @Apologie

Yaz, myself and many others have already explained the Mass Effect situation to you a thousand times. Mass Effect is published by MS (as Calgon said) hence it will not appear on the PS3. It is conceivably possible that Mass Effect 2 & 3 may show up on the PS3 at some stage, but the devs have denied any intention of making ANY Mass Effect games for the PS3 at this stage so stop talking jive you nonce.

  • Drakron #42 4 years ago

Its unlikely too because ME was announced as a trilogy and its a contract with BioWare and Microsoft, EA inherited that contract when they brought up BioWare,

Also I recall when people were saying 2007 was the PS3 year ... sorry I rather wait until the reviews come out before saying something is a AAA title, something Sony defenders have a habit of doing (Lair and Heavenly Sword anyone?) and as for BioShock in the PS3 ... now when Sonytards defend the "only on the PS3" then I have to apply the same for Xbox 360 exclusive games, its only "fair" and even if BioShock does end up in the PS3 its still going to be what? 1 year after it was released on PC and Xbox 360?

The PS3 must really have great games if Xbox 360 sloppy seconds are so desired ...

"Apologie just owned all the xbots on this thread"

Tbh, when I see posts like that list and the ones accompanying it, I just think that all fanboys are able to divide the embarassment between themselves equally. Spending seconds of your life making such lists, or spending further seconds trying to undermine such lists, is surely the most pointless activity anyone can spend time engaged in.

The irony is that anyone who gives credence to such things is getting "owned" by the rest of the population of the world, who looks on thinking "Jesus, what the f*ck is that all about".

Moral of the story. Stop writing "my dad is bigger than yours" lists, play games, be happy.
  • Apologie #57 4 years ago

i wrote a list about the Ps3 exclusives... the point was not to say that all of them are AAA, but to elucidate some Xbots in these thread that the Ps3 is very much alive, presenting more variety, quantity and some of the best franchises available in the videogameworld, that's an indisputable fact... another indisputable fact is that the Ps3 line up for 2008 is way superior to the ones presented by the competition.
    Edited by 2 at 17/01/08 @ 14:26
  • Kryon #58 4 years ago

Apolol, there's a few problems with your 'infamous' list.

A - Most of the titles are not out.

B - Most of the titles that are out, are nothing special (many of them are crap).

C - Some of the titles you listed are not PS3 exclusive.

"another indisputable fact is that the Ps3 line up for 2008 is way superior to the ones presented by the competition"

You obviously don't know what the word "indisputable" means then because I'm sure many of the forumites here would happily dispute any so called "facts" you care to throw at them.
The PS3 has two worthwhile exclusive that are available now, Ratchet & Uncharted, that is all. The 360 has a better games catalogue, exclusive and otherwise, the vast majority of multi-platform titles are better on the 360, that's an "indisputable fact"... Anyway, keep hoping for a bright PS3 future but the saying "tomorrow never comes" springs to mind...
    Edited by 1 at 17/01/08 @ 15:06
  • ronuds #59 4 years ago

How can you argue with indisputable facts, Kryon? They're indisputable! Nobody in the world would dispute them, and even if they tried it would be pointless because the entire world agrees.

I think I'm beginning to agree with the people who say that arguing with guys like Apolol only makes ME look more dumb than anything, because nobody with an ounce of intelligence could possibly take anything he says with any more than a grain of salt. It's just so damn fun though!

But the most amazing and entertaining thing is watching someone who's already dug themselves a crater-sized hole, sink even deeper.

    @Apologie

"but to elucidate some Xbots in these thread"

Thats kind of my point. I really don't mean to get on your case, you just happened to write the list I decided to have a grumpt on. The key thing is xbots and their Sony and Nintendo equivalents (whi probably includes yourself if you are honest) won't be swayed by such lists.

Seriously, if we are all totally honest, its not actually about what good games are currently available and up and coming. It ALL about defending theplatform that represents the posters own investment and the focus of their bizarre electro love.

I happen to own a 360 and a PS3, but there was a time when I didn't. For ages I had an Xbox but no PS2. I currently don't have a PC that is up to running modern. BUT I don't give a rats ass about discussions that centre on which platform is "better". its meaningless, and more importantly utterly futile. The thing about lists that makes them stand out is they are an attempt to create logic and reason where none exists. We decide what is important and what isn't, so anyone can contrive some set of values that apparently mean one console is better than another, and would you adam and eve it, their own platform of choice just happens to come out on top of their list of "value".

Its all just soooo pointless. Seriously, in the time it took to write your list, you could have made yourself a lovely cup of tea. Mmmm, just imagine, a nice cup of tea with some milk and a sugar lump. Awesome. Or coffee if thats your thing (but not that instant muck, I won't abide it you hear me).

The irony is, it probably took me longer to write this. I guess I am just on a mission to save and patronise everyone in equal amounts.

    @Apolol

You say that the 360 does not have exclusives because many titles are also available on PC , hence (in your opinion) not exclusive. That means UT3 is not a PS3 exclusive, right? Anyway, the game is on it's way to 360 so UT3 is not PS3 exclusive on any level. Resistance got a 6/10 from EG (LOL). Folklore got a 5/10 from EG (double LOL). Tekken is out on PSP and PS2 so while slightly more polished, it's not exclusive. The rest on your little list are nothing special and Heavenly Sword was a big let down.

"Ganging up doesn't make you right."

I agree, being right makes us right ;-)

Edit - Everything I've written in this post is obviously an indisputable fact.

Gamesradar reported way back in mid June,2007 that Crysis might be coming to the PS3. Apparently a new rumour has surfaced on Gamesradar claming that Crysis is indeed coming to PS3.

"Even before the PC version released, rumours of a PS3 conversion of the stunning Crysis (developed by Far Cry creators Crytek) were rife, and not far off the mark if insiders at the studio are to be believed. The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5. Like the PC game you can expect a visual powerhouse; an open-world shooter that begins on a beautiful tropical island before things take a turn for the worse and aliens from a parallel world stake a claim on Earth. Only the mighty Killzone 2 could possibly hold a candle to this shooter. For technical reasons we hear an Xbox 360 version of Crysis isn’t in development. Bet you’re glad you bought a PS3 now, eh? "

LOL, here's a quote taken from one of the links provided within your very own link -

Salt? Pinch of? Until this rumour is either confirmed or denied, we’d recommend keeping your glee-fuelled somersaults on hold for the moment - just to avoid any resultant fanboy backlash.

Maybe you should learn from it Apolol.
