BioShock still top in UK

Tiger chasing.

BioShock has battled off hot competition from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 to remain top of the UK all formats chart for a second week running, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

Brain Training outsmarted competition to hold onto its spot in third for another week, while Wii counterpart Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree managed to hurdle 17 places up into sixth.

Notable new entries went to Stuntman: Ignition diving in at ninth, followed by freshers Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms and Guild Wars: Eye of the North at 16th and 19th respectively.

EA newcomers Madden NFL and Boogie could only manage 27th and 28th in their first week of sale.

The full list looks a little bit exactly like this:

  1. BioShock
  2. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
  3. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training
  4. Transformers: The Game
  5. Dr Kawashima's More Brain Training
  6. Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
  7. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Warfighter 2
  8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
  9. Stuntman: Ignition
  10. Pokemon Diamond

    Transformers, still 4th?

    /sigh
  • jonnyreb #4 5 years ago

A well deserved Top Spot for once.
  • sharpfish #5 5 years ago

Great news for Bioshock. Now I just wish their #1 status would hurry them up with patch number one to address crap mouse control and sound that cuts out when more than 4 sound effects play at once.

Other than that, great game. (not 'best game ever' though) 10/10 my arse Eurogamer, did you even PLAY the PC version? *rollseyes*

    What the--?

Is EG paying for the chart now? I miss the convoluted paragraphs telling us the chart positions in a roundabout way :'(
  • evild_edd #7 5 years ago

I'm surprised to see Blue Dragon doing (comparatively) well - just hovering outside the top 10.

Interesting that more copies of TW sold on the 360 than the Wii as well. The game attach rate for 360 is still very high by the looks of things... though I suppose more 360s are owned (at present...just) than Wiis.

I'd like to know how console sales are going further to the Elite launch; i.e. has it made a difference?

God we british buy alot of crap. Thank god for good stuff like Bioshock to break the hold of the crap film game licence/EASports for once
  • Darren #11 5 years ago

I'd like to see BioShock at the top of the charts until Halo 3 is released personally as it deserves to do well. I'm surprised that Tiger Woods 08 has gone in at 2 though, I didn't realise golf was that popular! :o
  • PlugMonkey #12 5 years ago

"God we british buy alot of crap. "

Not really. That top 10 has an average metacritic score of 77, which falls into the 'generally favourable reviews' category. Transformers is the only real aberration.

Tiger Woods is a worthy game to be up there too.

Shame 99% of PC Gamer's can't even play it due to the ridiculous amount of crashes it suffers from :(
  • DDevil #15 5 years ago

Would you kindly keep buying Bioshock? Thanks.

I must be the 1% as mine plays smooth on highest levels on a fairly modest PC. It's also never crashed (yet).

    7800GS (AGP)
    AMD 64 3500 (single core)
    1 GB RAM
  • Ceatlan #17 5 years ago

I wish all the PC players would stop ranting on about the Bioshock review not mentioning any of their problems. For God Sake, the review clearly states it was for the 360 version and in the comments section they said that they would likely do a separate review of the PC version when they received a copy and somebody had had a chance to play it.

    Mine plays great too.......

This is the first I've heard of any Bioshock problems, it's been running 100% fine for me. I'm assuming the problems are ATi related?
  • rogermellie #20 5 years ago

You could be right about it being an ATI issue. I know at least two people who bought the latest and greatest ATI cards and it runs badly. I just assumed it was the card and not Bioshock.
  • bigbadbeasty #21 5 years ago

No the issues are not just with ATI. There are problems with Vista, DX 10, EAX sound, no sound, crackling sound, Nvidia 8800's, AVG anti-virus software... the list goes on.

It is a real shame to, it is a great game, and worthy of the praise, but they simply should not have released it on the PC before they ironed out the glitches.

"Interesting that more copies of TW sold on the 360 than the Wii as well. "

How do you know that? Link please, I can't find any break down of individual formats.

    *edit* Ah, Chart Tracks.

So my old PC with old Nvida 6600gt, onboard sound and Windows XP would seem problem free. Big up the old tech that most people have!

(Anyway, it plays beautifully on my (launch day) 360, projector, great sound and comfy sofa) +1

PCs are for web, email and shopping

Well, Bioshock plays more than nicely on my rig : QuadCore, Vista, EAX, 8800SLI, etc. Not a single crash.

Btw, fps wise, nothing beats a mouse and keyboard :) That's why a chose the Pc version over the X360 one.
  • bigbadbeasty #25 5 years ago

You are a very lucky boy then RickHard, the game has been no end of hassle for me and (by the looks of the forums) many others
  • jonnyreb #26 5 years ago

I just had one problem with Bioshock on the 360 - while fighting the first Big Brother, the little girl jumped on his head and promptly vanished into the wall that he was up against.

After spending about an hour looking for her, I gave up and reloaded (she was still showing as unsaved on the main screen, and when I tried to exit the level it told me that I had one girl to rescue).

Other than that it's a cracking game.
  • CargoCult #27 5 years ago

Bioshock was disconcertingly stable on my overheating, dodgy-GPU-o-matic MacBook Pro.

No crashes or bugs at all. Strange!
  • krudster #28 5 years ago

No we didn't play Bioshock on PC, mainly because we weren't given a copy to review.

"Shame 99% of PC Gamer's can't even play it due to the ridiculous amount of crashes it suffers from :("

I must be in the 1% then, I have not had a single problem with it, I even have it running on poopy Vista.
  • UncleLou #31 5 years ago

Not had a single crash in the PC version, finished it.

Loads of people with the 360 version having problems though.

Consoles are for playing HD and Blu-Ray videos.

  • Pike #33 5 years ago

Bioshock has been perfectly stable for me.

There will always be some people with issues, and they will always whine incessantly to try and give the impression that the problems are more widespread than they really are.

Restart is a shining example of that special brand of idiocy.

Well, imo Gears was still more fun to actually play. Bioshock should have been amazing but it's nothing more than a glitched up, tarted up, interactive novel.

It's not at all like the awesome System Shock 2. Every firefight in gears was fun, in Bioshock it's a poorly animated, weight lacking, chore.

It's all about the theme and the story in Bioshock not the gameplay i'm afraid. There's very little gameplay in there you just keep walking and listening, punctuated by the odd hysterical all out firefight with goons in masks (respawning ones at that! in 2007!).

Nothing pulls you out of the game more than having a splicer spawn out of no-where....

------ To the guy who mentioned the little sister going into the wall - that's where they live dude, the Big Daddy helps them up. Basically you MiSSED that one, but hang around and it will reappear again.

"There will always be some people with issues, and they will always whine incessantly to try and give the impression that the problems are more widespread than they really are."

Yes there will always be people with issues with PC games, but it is not the case that people are making it seem more than it is. The issues are many, and they are widespread. It is a real pity to, because I know that alot of stores are getting returns, simply cause the game does not work :s
  • TheUnionFrag #36 5 years ago

    Ahh - all is well.

    Bioshock reigns supreme.

I can only hope it will last until Halo 3 releases and my intelligence asplodes. [See? It happen alrudy!! NOOOOO!]
  • Gibroon #37 5 years ago

    WTF

Why are people still buying Transformers?
I assume its all the Wii owners cos there is fook all else to play.
  • Sebo #38 5 years ago

Bioshock - I had such hope for you, but it simply wasn't to be. Nothing more than an okay game unfortunately. Not a patch on Gears of War.
