BioShock, PES demos head PSN update

Plus: GEON, FIFA 09 Live Season packs.

BioShock and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 demos lead a meaty PSN update this week.

They're followed by PSN game GEON, which costs GBP 4.99 and received 6/10 on Xbox Live Arcade last September.

Those FIFA 09 Adidas Live Season subscription packs are also available, either at GBP 4.99 for one league, or GBP 12.99 for all seven. The idea is that EA watches real matches to determine player performance and then allows you to download updates that replicate this in FIFA 09's exhibition matches, ranked online and Interactive League games. Don't get in a huff about the cost though - you get one free sub with the game.

Other additional content comes in the form of soundtracks for PixelJunk Eden and PixelJunk Monsters (GBP 1.49 each), plus loads of Rock Band songs.

These are Megadeth tracks "Wake Up Dead", The Conjuring", "Devil's Island", "Good Mourning/Black Friday", Bad Omen", "I Ain't Superstitious" and "My Last Words". These cost GBP 0.99 each, or GBP 4.99 as a pack.

Other songs for GBP 0.59 each include "One of THOSE Nights" by The Cab, "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional, She's a Handsome Woman" by Panic at the Disco, and "Natural Disaster" by Plain White T's.

Then for GBP 0.99 come "Sorrow" by Bad Religion, "She Sells Sanctuary" by The Cult, "Bandages" by Hot Hot Heat, "Shoot the Runner" by Kasabian, "You're No Rock N' Roll Fun" by Sleater-Kinney, and "Love Spreads" by The Stone Roses.

There's also a GBP 4.99 Moving Pictures pack bundling Rush songs added last week: "Tom Sawyer", "Red Barchetta", "YYZ", "Limelight", "The Camera Eye", "Witch Hunt" and "Vital Signs".

Elsewhere are some themes and wallpapers for Fallout 3 and Prince of Persia, plus a spattering of trailers.

Oh I remember Bioshock, that's the game I was playing a year ago on my Xbox isn't it?
  • andywilkie35 #2 3 years ago

I've seen basically nothing on Pro Evo in the run up to release.

Good to hear demos are out on both, I need to decide which is the better version out of PS3 and xbox360

Eden tracks? Whats this? mp3s for sale?
  • Darren #8 3 years ago

Another good week for the PS Store... I'll be checking out PES 2009 with the intention of buying it on the PS3 (for the edited Options file) and also I'll take a gander at BioShock to see how it compares with the superb Xbox 360 original, which I bought last year. All PS3 owners should take a look at this game IMO.

Hey, still no SC4 sexy costumes?:p

    >Along with Halo 3 no doubt.

Along with GEON I think ;)
  • nickthegun #11 3 years ago

Have they lumped the Rock Band songs into one update category or are they all still bloody separated across the page?

    @nickthegun

There is a Latest icon for this week's RB content, and the old content has been filtered into the Rock Band section within the A-Z listing in All Games, as well as Game Add-Ons.
  • Doctor_What #13 3 years ago

Hm... A reasonble week. I might also do a Bioshock comparison with the 360 version.

Any chance of letting us know when the Mirror's Edge demo really will be out?

What are the trailers? That's the thing I use PSN for the most.
  • oreillymj #14 3 years ago

@BiscuitBase Yes but you haven't played the bonus content fuckwit.
  • Moonprince #15 3 years ago

6/10 on Xbox Live Arcade last September.

Game has had updates so why refer to an old review???
  • GamesProgrammer Verified Games Team Programmer, Eutechnyx Ltd. #16 3 years ago

    @Moonprice

I was wondering if it had had a make over at all, do you have any more info on these updates?
  • menage #17 3 years ago

Probably can't be assed to try again:p. (Which I kinda get, don't think it will be 10/10 suddenly)
  • spammage #18 3 years ago

There is no pleasing those 360 owners with PSN updates.....
  • Greebo #19 3 years ago

"Oh I remember Bioshock, that's the game I was playing a year ago on my Xbox isn't it?"

I own both consoles (and most of the others, I need to get out more!), but am currently more ashamed of 360 zealots than I am of Ps3 *sigh*

It may have come out a while back, but I'd urge PS3 owners to give it a look. It hasn't dated a bit and is best played in a dark room!

  • GamesConnoisseur #20 3 years ago

Re Greebo advice of playing BioShock in dark room, funny thing last year, I had water leaking into basement before I tanked up the room and was quite an apt experience of playing the game in dark and damp smelling room with puddle of water here and there!

Damn immersive but cannot recommend to anyone to try as quite costly to put right!

Second others that its certainly an experience to play and worthy title for PS3 owners, I m looking forward to the demo on PSN.

@GamesConnoisseur - LOL at your comment! Can't have been pleasant at the time but it clearly added loads of atmosphere to the game!
  • BiscuitBase #22 3 years ago

The irony of this thread is, I don't actually own an Xbox 360 and I've never played bioshock!

That there is the twisted genius of BiscuitBase.
  • FenderMaster #23 3 years ago

slowly d/ling Bioshock now, its a big one, had to delete some demos to make ay for it
  • mikeck #24 3 years ago

    Dear biscuitbase

It just makes you a dickhead.
  • kentmonkey #27 3 years ago

Typically yet another biscuit base crumbles under pressure
  • miiiguel #28 3 years ago

You have to admit, if biscuit indeed doesn't have a 360, it is kinda funny...

You went all defensive against the "360 zealots"... lol.
  • makeamazing #29 3 years ago

Well if he doesnt have a console and is just doing flame bait, that makes him more of a muppet :D

Anyway back on topic... downloading the demo now... doubt i will get it as still havent got far on the PC version... but still interesting to see what it looks like compared to my nice graphics card on the PC.
  • GamesConnoisseur #30 3 years ago

Darren "@GamesConnoisseur - LOL at your comment! Can't have been pleasant at the time but it clearly added loads of atmosphere to the game!"

Thanks and certainly true it did add to the atmosphere. I was quite fortunate to notice the water pouring in at the time and was able to save all electronic gadets (a goddamn priority). Had to throw away all the furniture and the soaked carpets. I just had the bare basment to play with which I restored HDTV, gaming consoles plus ikea chair in the minimalist approach!

Had to raise the cables onto table and away from floor (obvious why). Damn blast of a time until the workmen came and ruined that environment but to delight of family in time for Christmas Wii fest!

Anyway BioShock is a must try if not yet dipped yourself into that watery and dangerous world!
  • miiiguel #31 3 years ago

Regarding Bioshock: Don't forget to get all the audio diaries, otherwise you'll miss (as in: do not get the entire story) the best part.
  • Retroid #32 3 years ago

No, you played it a year ago on your Xbox *360* :p

Anyway, I'll be downloading the PS3 demo to compare and contrast :)
  • BiscuitBase #33 3 years ago

    @Evilfoxhound

I've already got another account. In fact, it posted in this thread! Try and guess which one...
  • makeamazing #34 3 years ago

Played the demo... very short :)

The water and fire effects are amazing, as good as my top range graphics card... real nice. In the demo they have given a a couple of extra early options such as fire and the machine gun, just to let people play i guess... you dont get far anyway :)

Couple of things i did dislike about the demo:

    1. Only a small nothing complaint, seemed alot of text/logos before even getting to the main menu.
    2. The mist/smoke/dust is not so impressive imho... alittle too much.

Overall from the very small play, certainly looks the part compared to the PC version

"It was a preemptive because we all knew you wouldn't resist to hang around here and leave a comment. "
No it was because I love Bioshock that much. And I like you. Preemptive, you know.

Anyone who played the 360 version of Geon do you think the PS3 upgrades would make it a much better game?

    1080p High Definition visuals.
    12 PSN trophies to collect.
    Redesigned single player maps.
Introduction of a new League mode.
Players have attack and shield as standard (instead of only via a power-up) allowing for greater interaction with (thumping the hell out of) your opponent.
New goal scoring system make it essential to stop your opponent scoring.
Redesigned Power-ups with the introduction of new ones such as Bliss' ghost cubes (which collect pellets for you) and Rage's extra attack – it's one angry cube.
Dramatically improved AI to handle the new game-play.

Im intersted in getting it but the 360 version has very lack luster reviews, this is not an attempt at flame baiting that the PS3 game is better than xbox, i would like some opinions as i doubt its gonna get many re-reviews.
  • miiiguel #37 3 years ago

I couldn't care less about which version of what is better. You guys are waay too "touchy".

Does anybody truly believes, after all this time, that any machine is, spec-wise, noticeable better than the other? If one does, that is faith, and it's indeed weird.
  • blether68 #38 3 years ago

I played the PS3 demo last night in 1080p. Having played it again for the umpteenth time on my ageing PC recently at 1080p / high quality settings with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB AMD939 4000+ there's a distinct lack of anti-aliasing on PS3 or JAGGIES, noticeable particularly with the luminous objects of interest. Also the water effects in the first level ,when the tail of the plane hits the tunnel, don't appear to be as detailed or crisp. This was very noticeable.

It just shows what a superb technical achievement it is on the PC.

Nice update. Will try Bioshock to compare with the 360 version.
  • septimus #40 3 years ago

Seems pretty much identical to the 360 version. Might buy it again, always good to go through Bioshock.
