BioShock 2 Special Edition unveiled News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

20 November, 2009

2K has unveiled the official BioShock 2 Special Edition, which is due out "in most countries worldwide" along with the regular edition on 9th February 2010.

Along with a copy of the game, obviously, the special edition comes in a 13-inch square box with "special art" on the slipcase as well as the box cover, and inside is a mixture of old-school trinkets.

Indeed, you'll be able to transform your home into a corner of Rapture, sort of, thanks to three rolled posters featuring vintage ads (e.g. "Tomorrow's promise... kept today!") and a pair of soundtracks.

There's an actual "vinyl 180g LP" containing the orchestral score from the original game, along with a CD of the BioShock 2 equivalent. Play them both at once!

Elsewhere, there's a 164-page, 8x11-inch hardbound artbook, which promises to be "full of developer commentary".

The Special Edition, pictured below, will cost $99.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360 and $89.99 for PC.

Utterly hot. Check out our BioShock 2 hands-on preview to see what all the fuss is about.

Now THIS I'll buy, I love that sort of art style. Not sure if the game will be any good though.

The posters would be cool if they were a lot bigger.

I could do without the vinyl and the associated package bulk that comes along with it to be honest.
I mean 13 inch square?
Where the hell do I put that?

The rest looks lovely though.

Little interest in Bioshock 2 until I get around to finish number one, but this looked very healthy and nice.

Yeah that's a pretty awesome special edition I must say.

Put's certain the Modern Warfare 'Special Editions' to shame.

I shall be buying the Bioshock one, thankee very much. The game is going to be fucking brilliant. Mark my words.

Games have got the wrong idea with special editions. I want as-you-play commentaries and documentaries about the creative process, Criterion dvd style. Valve had the right idea but there's so much more that can be done. Art book? Pah! I'd look at it twice and never again.

One of the stronger special editions I've seen.

Art deco ornaments - good.

Plastic action figures - bad.

not a fan of art books, but the LP is a great idea and having a CD backup for those without an record player is good :) .. .but still a very nice touch that really fits with the time frame.

Would have loved one of these - http://images.play.com/covers/12425497x.jpg - to be included, but I guess we can't have it all.

Not getting. Got the original special edition and it's crap. Big Daddy aside, DVD was pants and the "CD" was utterly abysmal: a handful of terrible remixes that I'm sure even Moby was ashamed of.

Hmm, would like the book but the rest I don't care much for. Oh well, got the original came special edition with the Big Daddy, I'll have to look at him instead.
