BioShock 2 multiplayer patch soon

Freezing stopped, connectivity smoothed.

A multiplayer patch to fix various BioShock 2 multiplayer niggles is "in the final stages of testing".

That's according to a post made by 2K community manager "2K Elizabeth" (caught by VG247)

Bizarrely, that post has since disappeared. 2K Games is investigating.

Top priority for the patch is to fix MP game freezes and connection issues for all three versions - PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - of the game. Lobbies are being stabilised, too.

The list of PC fixes stretches on longer than for the console games. Issues like colourblind-friendly hacking games and HUD scalability are included.

Look out for the full patch notes and a concrete date soon.

    Was the patch already on the disc?

    That's right, first put out 2 expensive map packs, then fix the fucking game.

    I actually stopped playing it before the maps hit, because of the freezing. I'm not going back to it now, get your prios straight.

    Goes back to UC2 mp.

    Noice. Had been playing this a bit recently, but not in the last week or so, should improve things a bit. Doesn't have that much lasting appeal really, but it's good fun for a while.

    menage, I don't think the new map pack is out yet, it was delayed.

    I got the game on release day, finished the SP ages ago and still haven't played a single match of MP.

    "I got the game on release day, finished the SP ages ago and still haven't played a single match of MP." -------Don't worry you're not missing anything!!!

    Too little too late. Uninstalled to make way for newer shinier games.

    Is anyone actually playing this online still? Most uninspired MP I have ever seen in a game. Compromised the quality and length of the SP for an average MP mode. The original sold quite well because it was amazing, it didn't need an MP mode. But then again, I also think that Bioshock didn't need a sequel.

    Yeah but... patches don't make any money, map packs do.

    @sfp_noodle

    The single and mutliplayer were developed by different teams.
    Agreed that multiplayer is unecessary. Should have made it a co-op thing instead.

    "Compromised the quality and length of the SP for an average MP mode. "

    I'm not a big mp fan but this is just bullshit. Separate dev teams and all. Length also doesn't equal quality (cue the dick jokes).

    @psycho

    I forgot it got pushed back, but were n't there 2 dlc packs in total? maybe not maps then.

    BS2 MP wasn't the best, but at least I had fun. Until it freaking froze 3 times in an hour. Then I quit. it was also waaayyyy too hard to get into a game, because there weren't many players I guess. So I don't think all this will help the game anymore.

    Took a long time, gave up already on PC multiplayer
  • Diarma76 #12 2 years ago

    Took a long time is right, only 3 months and counting for a decent patch. They would have been better waiting 2/3 months to release it. Once the patch comes out I'll then play it. As for the MP, I don't care, it was only the vocal minority that bleated on and on about this being "missing" in the first game that made the devs tack it on. Bioshock is supposed to be SP only. Leave the MP for MW games.

    Two DLC packs but the first one wasn't worth bothering with, it didn't contain any maps.
    Agreed the patch is way too late though, I'm sure practically everyone that wasn't sure about it has moved on.
