Big Nintendo announcement on the way?

Media Summit and mag reveal planned.

Looks like Nintendo has some exciting news to share, with a big announcement apparently just around the corner.

The US Official Nintendo Magazine (as read by IGN) has promised there is "something very special lined up" for the next issue, due to hit the shops on 12th March.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has invited US journalists to attend a Media Summit in San Francisco on 24th February. Presentations, demos and hands-on playtests will be on offer.

So what could it be? New Zelda? New Mario? New Women's Murder Club? Nintendo's declining to comment, so it looks like we'll have to wait and see.

    The new Nintendo Pii?
  • AphoticCosmos #2 2 years ago

Maybe they'll pledge to stop making shit games for baby boomers and bored housewives.

Come on Nintendo, you used to be better than this.
  • mkreku #3 2 years ago

It probably has something to do with that ridiculous "Life sensor" or whatever they call it.

In this day and age, I wouldn't call more than a month from now "around the corner".
  • Jackface #6 2 years ago

It'll just be some new, underwhelming social/life/casual input-device/software/phenomenon they've 'invented' that appeals to practically no gamers at all but does appeal to the vast majority of non-gaming casual family users of the Wii, the demographic that Nintendo is vigorously and profitably pursuing these days.

When games companies say they've got 'big' announcements it's always a massive disappointment.
  • wizlon #7 2 years ago

Maybe Nintendo are going to announce... a game... now that would be a welcome surprise.
  • CallousB #8 2 years ago

They don't actually say there will be a big announcement..just that something "very special" is lined up for the next issue.

The most obvious thing would be a full reveal of Metroid Other M..as Nintendo announced in their financial report that it would out this Summer in Japan.

Having said that...Nintendo always have a media summit at this time of year (and rarely reveal anything)..and a magazine saying something "very special" is lined up..may just mean they are including a keyring.

It's websites/forums who are hyping it ....Nintendo themselves have not even made a comment of any kind.

New version of the Gameboy packing enough grunt to play Gamecube games?
If so, i'll buy it at a high price.
  • photoboy #11 2 years ago

It's going to be the sequel to Brain Training: Hand Training, where the player must hone his or her reflexes by reacting to what happens on-screen and pushing the right buttons in order to progress. The original prototype of this game was Super Mario Bros Wii, but Nintendo have decided they can sell a lot more copies if they paste Dr Kawashima's head over Mario's.

I would love to see Nintendo go bust.

'In this day and age, I wouldn't call more than a month from now "around the corner". '

Under the strange time dilation laws of Nintendo's release schedule, a month equates to second.

I bet the big announcement will be their commitment to regular gamers followed by teasers of some games that will arrive some time in 2012. Just like the last one. And the one the previous year. ;)
  • Bremenacht #15 2 years ago

I hope it will be 'Iwata asks' - LIVE. Everyone will fly in to hear about the DS2, but end up hearing about the time Morita nipped out for a fag but it was snowing and he accidentally dropped his NES down the fire escape and when he retrieved it and climbed back up, he got the idea for 'Ice Climbers' (laughs)
  • chiz #16 2 years ago

It might be an extra button on the controller. Obviously, this will mean Nintendo make one game that supports it and urges all it's users to upgrade, because it's the best thing, ever.
  • JeroenZM #17 2 years ago

A vitality sensor supported game, in which you have to raise your pulse so that the graphics slowly become HD.
  • kinky_mong #18 2 years ago

    @Ryboy:

"I would love to see Nintendo go bust."

Yeah, wouldn't it be great to see the company behind many of the most critically acclaimed gaming franchises and much loved characters go out of business, causing hundreds if not thousands of people to lose their jobs.

What a terrible shit-of-a-cunt you are to say that.
  • LHH #19 2 years ago

They've finally developed a use for that Vitality Sensor?

There's always that nasty rumour started by NGamer that Sonic is set to be playable in Mario Galaxy 2. I suppose that would qualify as a big announcement.
  • DonnieDarko333 #23 2 years ago

Why has all the attention gone to the USA Media summit!?

The European one is on 25th Feb 2010.
  • swissorc #24 2 years ago

@Kinky mong don't get mad just click ignore poster Why would anyone want to hear the opinion of someone who says something so childish.

ps I too believe this to be associated with the sensor. However, wasn't it this time of year they also mentioned the they were going to unlock the SD card maybe they will anounce the death of friend codes and launch a nice wirelss headset lol in my dreams ps HD (heaven) can wait.

  • CallousB #26 2 years ago

    @LHH

Nintendo trademarked the title 'Wii Relax'..so it seems likely that's the vitality sensor "game".

I'd assume it's some form of stress relief/ meditation software.
  • Shinetop #27 2 years ago

They found a use for the vitality sensor. They use it to detect if your Wii has bored you to death.
  • JahB #28 2 years ago

  • abigsmurf #31 2 years ago

The five most likely reveals (not in any order):

1: Vitality sensor - possible, they've promised big support for this and there could be enough games on show to warrant an event.

2: Zelda Wii - I'd imagine they want to show this off as it's a major release but... The event doesn't sound geared to a single game

3: Wii HD or Wii 2 - Too early in the Wii's life and there are too many AAA titles coming (Zelda, DQX, Metroid, Kid Ikarus)

4: DS2 - possible, it's known to be using Tegra 2, DS sales are slowing, the console is aging and the graphics were clunky 5 years ago. Would fit in well for an autumn release (games on show at E3 and TGS) which would be the ideal launch time.

5: General 'this is what we will release in the next 6 months' show - possible but disappointing if there are no big reveals. Nintendo have decided they'll only show off games 6 months from release and E3 and TGS are badly spaced out so it could happen.
  • zedzee #32 2 years ago

Nintendo "Hospital Simulator & Sensor" game for Revolution (sorry, but I just can't bring myself to call it by its brand name).
  • malexous #33 2 years ago

The usual negative tripe from sore 'gamers'.

I personally hope it isn't the announcement of the Pii and don't see why it would be. Didn't the Wii sell record-breaking numbers in December 2009?
  • beastmaster #34 2 years ago

They're going to develop on other platforms? Never happen will
    it?
  • oiomar #35 2 years ago

How the hell does Nintendo keep all this secret!!

Apple got something new to announce, we all know it 6 months prior, MS got something, we know it a year before, Sony we know what they will announce before they themselves do (E3 2009, anyone)

But Nintendo? You never, ever have a fucking clue! How do they do it!
  • Daryoon #37 2 years ago

Can't (can) believe people are STILL whining about real/casual games...oh well :/

What're the chances it's something minor blown out of all proportions by the media. I believe the term for such a thing was 'Megaton'.
