Big Fable II announcement next week
Dev blog post sparks DLC rumours.
A mysterious post on Lionhead's development blog suggests a Fable II announcement is due "early next week".
The post, made by community manager 'Sam', promises some "good news for all Fable II fans next week", but there are no further details. In a related post the cheeky teaser also promises, "Next week we're announcing something that will make you want to revisit Albion. That is, if you're not already there..." Which could indicate something which would provide an extension of game-time.
Microsoft's being tight-lipped about the whole affair, claiming they'd be "hung, drawn and quartered" were the cat to escape the bag, so we're assuming it's quite big potatoes. The obvious answer would be some DLC - there are a few clues kicking around in the game's interface already and items are available from the Fable II puppet show web site - but there are other options such as patches or an expansion.
Our money is on some sort of DLC-flavoured treat, however, probably in the form of an item pack, clothing or character customisation. Bertie suggested that it could be a cat, possibly to ride your dog and keep it in order with the odd supercilious paw to the nose, but we're unconvinced.
Which brings us to the issue of pricing, upon which we shall defer to our learned friends at Rumour, Speculation and Guesswork. The Pub Games were priced at 800 MS points. This price, as with all DLC, was set by Microsoft rather than Lionhead, but it's probably a fair reflection of what will be charged for content attached to such a successful title.
Are you ready to reach into your wallet again so soon after buying the game first time around? We've developed very tender fingers of late, mostly in response to endlessly typing our PIN numbers into card machines across the retail spectrum, but Fable might just demand enough loyalty to squeeze a little extra from out beleaguered accounts. This is, of course, assuming that DLC is actually the subject of the announcement at all, but for the moment that's where the smart bets probably lie.
Thanks, Kotaku

Hopefully, when I get it back from Germany this week after a repair, I can start playing again.

I hope this is something good, and not just £1 for a new coat or something (says the man who got every extra item going in the run up to launch!)

On a brighter note, I can't say I've seen a 'major bug' as such but I'm only at the citadel so not sure how far into the game I am.

That's weird. MY XBox died 2 days after I brought Fable 2 home. Is there anything to this theory, or is it just a vicious rumor? Because now I'm hesitant to drop Fable II into my replacement XBox. Not that I'm dying to play it right at the moment, but sooner or later it's likely...

Pay £50 for a game that was obviously designed to be controlled using a mouse.
Play it using a joypad because you hate yourself.
Buy the ending for £15.
Wait for the same game to come out on the PC, 4-6 months later, with mouse controls and free ending.
Sell 360.
Seriously, mine's just for Guitar Hero these days. Buying console games is for mugs. Buying console games new is for... teacups?
Also, killing the resale market by making games cost 10+ quid over and above whatever you paid for them makes new games cost £65ish, or over $100US, depending on how fast the value of the pound is plummeting, is also killing the first-sale market, so that can naff off, too.
There's only even a second hand market because new console games cost the earth. I don't even have to consider whether to buy a new PC game, they're too cheap to care about, but at £[boot to the groin] per game, console games are a wholly different proposition.

i bet not cheaper than a 360... pointless your comment!

And any other kind of expansion to Fable II would be great. It's just a shame that if I can't get my dog back, I won't be playing it.

There may not have been much of a last boss (although that was wonderfully amusing) but there certainly was an ending. It wrapped things up nicely and still had enough foreshadowing to make Fable 3 interesting. That's still more of an ending than Fallout 3, Gears of War or Halo 2 have.

In Theresa's control, she played you like a pawn for the entire game
Also regarding sacrifice: it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice if you didn't lose anything

I really thought the whole stuck in the spire chapter was rubbish. I know they needed a passages of time so Albion could change in your absence but still they could have thought of something else.

goes back to LBP and GOW2... ahhhh thats better.

Go enjoy it then and leave console games threads alone.
Also "this game is crap", I don't give a fuck.

1. Use your avatar as your ingame character
2. Avatar clothing attached to the game's achievements
3. Download of avatar clothing
Would prefer the top two. Free is best after all

It's something to do with the NXE, and aside from the comment about "returning to Albion" I'd put money on it being something Fabley you can use on your dashboard (LH are Microsoft's bitches now of course).
I doubt it'd be something you can use in-game (certainly not avatar support - think how much effort went into the morphing character!). It may very well be something for the dashboard that you need to work your arse off in-game to "win" (kind of a reverse pub-games scenario).
Total mixed feelings about this... I sucked this game dry over the release weekend, barely sleeping, and did *everything* in 21 hours. Then I upgraded my HDD to a 120GB one in preparation for the new dashboard, and because the data transfer cable didn't work properly I had to copy everything I could onto a memory card and back onto the new HDD. Fable II's save didn't fit, and consequently I lost my merged pub games guy with all his gold and goodies and post completion save...
Now I can't be arsed playing through the game again from scratch (including the pub tourneys)... It's just grind grind grind to the next plot advancement, and playing good/evil is only superficially different (Wooh, people bug you because they are terrified of you, not because they are stalking you... Wooh, you cosmetically look satanic rather than angelic... Wooh you ruin one area of the map and the people in another love you to bits... It ain't as deep as it would like to be.
Just watched zeropunctuation's review on theescapismagazine.com and am increasingly coming round to his way of thinking. This is a great 8/10 game that sucked me in for a whole weekend, but to suggest it has the depth to return to for another go... I don't think so.
Fallout 3 on the other hand...
