BIA: Hell's Highway in August News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

17 April, 2008

Those of you waiting for Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway will need to hang around until August 2008, Ubisoft confirmed today, but will have a "totally redesigned online component" to enjoy when the game does pitch up.

Ubisoft has also released a brand new trailer that you can check out on Eurogamer TV (or preview down below on the left in titchy form) showing off lots of gameplay footage, and some fancy new screenshots that illustrate the game's progress since we last saw it.

That was in December last year, when we went hands-on under the tutelage of Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford. Back then we were told to expect 20-player support on PS3, 360 and PC in online multiplayer, and that features like the squad system for issuing orders and destructible cover would make their way online.

Now Ubisoft is claiming "dozens" of players on each side, with the result "combining all the intensity and accessibility of deathmatch with the squad-based gameplay that helped make Brothers In Arms famous".

As you will already know if you've followed the preview coverage, Hell's Highway puts you back in the World War II boots of Matt Baker during Operation Market Garden. Based on Unreal Engine 3, it's a lot more elaborately appointed and aims to evolve the game's traditional squad-based cover and flanking gameplay in ways that will get you interested all over again.

I've been waiting so long for this now that WWII-based games have gone from being flavour of the month to being yesterday's thing IMO so I dunno whether I'll buy this or not now, I'm really fed up of the whole setting to be frank. I was interested in it though when it was first announced and I saw that 30 minute walkthrough but that was like 18 months to two years ago now! It's going to have to be really, really special to grab my attention again.

Did you take the MP promises from the official website "Features" tab or Ubisoft spoke out somewhere? Anyway this has peaked my interest in the game, disappointed as I am from Battlefield's ridiculous lack of clan support and team chat.

Funny.

I remember when this was one of the most anticipated games of the current gen, whereas now it only gets 4 comments in an EG article in the space of 5 hours :/

I'm all for delaying games a bit to make sure they aren't full of silly little bugs, but this has been delayed way too much. Delayed to the point where no one actually cares about it anymore.

I think this game has suffered from Haze Syndrome in that it has been delayed for so goddamn long that a lot of people don't care any more.

...Just read SomaticSense's post, so yeah, ^that basically.

I agree with the "Haze Syndrome" , LOL , also with the whole wartimes shooters, it's feels so done that already. Maybe all us gamers should start a blog/site/post where we all brainstorm ideas for future games in the yearning!

Looks very nice, but the 'pin down', 'flank', 'move on' gameplay got stale after their second game.
So yes, this looks very nice and the story is gripping, but the fact that a rocket launcher destroys a German Hiding spot, but does nothing to the wall two feet away (where the other Fritz is hiding), seems beyond me.

Next gen has become current gen. If battlefield can trash the place, so should the rest.
Get your act together, Gearbox.

'pin down', 'flank', 'move on' is how you succeed in most FPSers.

Mmm, nice to see a release date finally, but please dont be another Hour of Victory!

Never played a BIA game before so quite looking forward to this. Doubt I will pre-order it though.

Too many games, too little money and time :/
