BFBC2 has "extensive paid DLC plan"

"Multiple" releases in next six months.

EA has restated its "extensive paid digital content plan" for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

During today's Wedbush Morgan financial conference, lead money-man Eric Brown said game owners will have "multiple opportunities to spend five, 10 or 15 dollars on additional content in the next six months or so".

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was another high-profile champion of Project Ten Dollar - EA's new initiative to provide DLC codes to first-hand buyers, who can redeem them for extra content worth around $10.

Brown said 85 per cent of BFBC2 players had activated their codes.

Brown also mentioned "extensive" DLC plans for Mass Effect 2, another of EA's Project Ten Dollar games.

    Mooo Mooooo

    I really hate these plans.
  • kinky_mong #2 2 years ago

Wonder if the the 15% who haven't activated their code where like me and have tried but were told that it wasn't valid?
  • KayJay #3 2 years ago

If it gets more money to the Developers (Oh go on then, the big bad Producers also) to provide us with better and better games then I am all for it.

As for the BFBC DLC, Cant wait. The current maps are pretty good but a little more variety is always a good thing.
  • hulahoops #4 2 years ago

So long as they don't hold back on content in the initial game I don't mind having the opportunity to expand for extra cash.

If they effectively release 50% of a traditional release and nickel and dime us for the other 50% I'm with Zoidberg.

But really, we get a heck of a lot for our money these days in terms of content.

"Wonder if the the 15% who haven't activated their code where like me and have tried but were told that it wasn't valid?"

I got the same thing. I switched to upper case and added hyphens and it worked, dunno if you've tried that yourself.
  • KayJay #6 2 years ago

@kinky_mong Yeah I had to try 3-4 times with my PS3 code. I think the VIP voucher in the box was printed 0000-0000-0000. But when the text entry box comes up is not like the normal PSN code box which only allows you to enter the code one way (The right way :-))
I first tried it with the "-" then without in lower case (I think) and then a third time all in upper case without the "-" and it finally accepted it. A little annoying.

Edit: "-" Yeah i meant "hyphens" but for the life of my I couldnt remember what the hell they were... :-)

For a moment I read that as "expensive".

  • patch #8 2 years ago

I still see this as a kick in the teeth for anyone who bought an Arcade and hasn't purchased a hard drive yet. Has no one asked the question of EA as to why they're charging for content that not everyone can download?
  • KayJay #9 2 years ago

is the VIP related stuff not already on the Disc? So no need to download! just validation with said code.
  • joe90 #10 2 years ago

And.. all bend over..no lube allowed.
  • 00.00.01 #11 2 years ago

    @ patch
It's already on yer disc, the code is just for activation purposes.
Good to see them state that the DLC plans are for releases within 6 months. And not like the tw@ts from Actipission/IW who start distributing their DLC (for PS3/PC that is) after almost 6 months (likely to be end of April...)
  • kinky_mong #12 2 years ago

@kj66246: I've tried lots of different variations of upeer and lower case, with hypens and without, and nothing has worked so far. Bit peeved about it to be honest.
  • Byzanite #13 2 years ago

All it is is incentive to buy the original game and not 2nd hand, this provides revenue for the Devs/Publishers which they would miss out on 2nd hand sales. Rather this than pumping out DLC they excluded from retail discs and charge more; thats the kick in the teeth for people who shelled out for retail. Im looking at you Activision!!!!

Well I probably mis-read the article; is this paid-for already or premium DLC on top of VIP?

I'm loving this game so much, I can't wait to drop 5, 10 or 15 dollars on extra content. And I ain't being sarcastic!
  • KayJay #15 2 years ago

kinky_mong Maybe keep hold of your proof of purchase just in case it never works. There may be some way to grab another code from EA gratis.
  • icematt12 #16 2 years ago

My question is, what though? I don't want to see guns giving premium people an advantage in MP and I personally am not keen on maps. Only thing that could tempt me is some different game mode. Seeing as DICE likes to mock MW2, they could do a zombie mode. People do seem to enjoy, I have not experienced one though.
  • chanandler #17 2 years ago

Wonder if I will ever be able to connect to the store.......
  • M4RV #18 2 years ago

One more game I wont purchase, despite the fact I love DICE nonetheless... Its kinda frustrating, having in mind that only recently I upgraded my PC and the big ones I was looking forward to ( MW2, BFBC2, etc etc ) show no love whatsoever... Even SP driven games nowadays have epilogues cut, for the sake of DLC.

    * See Prince of Persia and GoW 3 *

    Sad indeed... :\
  • PearOfAnguish #19 2 years ago

Remember when BF1942 patches introduced new maps for free? Or when they gave us a lovely updated Wake island map for BF2? Great days.

"Only thing that could tempt me is some different game mode."

    CTF!

I'm dreaming, they'll never re-introduce CTF. At least Rush iis kind of similar if you imagine that the flags are electronic boxes that you must explode.
  • geeza2020 #20 2 years ago

i know its only a footnote in the article, but i want more mass effect 2 dlc!!
  • Paperghost #21 2 years ago

Kinky: upper case with hyphens worked for me, nothing else did.
  • mizcicz #22 2 years ago

this is a game where dlc really works. i love it so much. to me this is the very best release this year so far and my personal goty contender - even though that´s unlikely to happen. it´s just my personal opinion. i know there is gowIII, heavy rain and me2 and these are awesome games. but i fell instantly in videogamelove with this one and i still can´t believe how good it really is. i activated the code but i wouldn´t bother to sink another 20 or even more euros for dlc here. can´t wait for new maps and upgrades. this is a game that you will play for a long long time.
  • VibratingDonkey #23 2 years ago

"multiple opportunities to spend five, 10 or 15 dollars on additional content in the next six months or so".

If they're going to charge for Conquest/Rush conversions of maps they've already created I'll be pissed. There are 8 maps in the game, but only 5 of them are playable in each mode. It feels incomplete in its current state. This is a situation that sucks and needs to be remedied. For free.

Also, considering DICE's past, this is disappointing news either way. Bad Company got a bunch of free map updates. As did BF1942 and BF2. But yeah, those three remaining conversions better be free at least.
  • ChthonicEcho #24 2 years ago

Games are ridiculously expensive in this region as is. I try to buy games whenever they're discounted (with few exceptions), and those that will last me a long time.

I'm starting to regret my purchase. I haven't even managed to play online once, either. Not a single time. My ISP is restrictive, yes, but I've been successfully gaming online with this connection for years.
  • mizcicz #25 2 years ago

@patch: if you buy an arcade version you´re most likely not interested in any dlc anyway...otherwise you wouldn´t buy one. it´s more for the casual gamers i believe who like to play a game once in a while and don´t care about dlc, gamerscore etc...EA isn´t charging directly in advance. the game has a regular price tag. the vip code just enables you to get some maps for "free". it´s just a system to get people to buy the game new rather than second hand...i don´t know if this is a good or a bad idea...actually i don´t really care. if dlc is good i´m not bothered at all to pay for it. there´s no reason why not to. i can understand if people are pissed off if they pay full price for a rather short game and then have to buy dlc to pimp the gamng experience a little bit with additional stuff that was already on the disc. but for a game like this and fallout 3 or borderlands or me2 for example dlc is a cool thing imo...

DLC is turning into a double-edged sword, on one hand you get extra content that extends the gaming experience for the better. But on the other, more developers are removing content that would or is on the original disc and expecting gamers to pay extra for it.
  • Shikasama #27 2 years ago

    WOW!

THEY are giving US the OPPORTUNITY to spend 5, 10 or even 15 dollars multiple times in the next 6 months!?

How very fucking gracious of them
  • Stupid_Fat_Hobbit #28 2 years ago

I don't think it's a good PR move for them to be trumpeting their upcoming DLC when they can't keep their servers up consistently as it is.
  • SleepyDeathFred #29 2 years ago

This is slightly off topic, but is anyone else finding that they're putting a whole AR magazine into someone about 50m away, then getting dropped with 2 shots from a shotgun? Shitty thing is it wasn't like this at all on the Thursday evening before it launched.
  • sneetch #30 2 years ago

Not so far, but if you're talking about opening up full auto on someone 50m away then you're probably missing the last 28-29 shots. ;)

Edit: BTW I don't mind paying for DLC so long as it's good value, if they're talking about €5 a map then I probably won't bother.

servers have been screwed since Friday...they should give us more Free DLC..and not just free DLC that lets you play rush or Conquest on the other maps(which should of been included anyway)

  • DUFFKING #32 2 years ago

As long as it's good DLC. Didn't mind paying for Euro Force and whatever the Armoured one was for BF2.
  • Moz #33 2 years ago

At least extra DLC is optional, unlike Activisions plans for monthly server subscriptions for furter COD games.
  • AphoticCosmos #34 2 years ago

As long as the maps are as superb as the ten ones available at release, then I'm sold.

Atacama Desert might be my new favourite map ever.
  • GooseUK #35 2 years ago

i have to say DLC for this game will be fantastic gauging by the effort they have put into the in game shop, and the project 10 dolla (sounds like a vietnamese hooker). I have to say the game has the most fair unlock system i have ever seen, for example, M24, is just as good as the unlocks for sniper class. In this case, i have no real concerns of DLC unbalancing the game.
  • Buran #36 2 years ago

Please, decent expansions as Special Forces to BF2 instead of crapy DLCs with a few alone maps. You known that no one bought the single maps to BF2 and at the end you forced yourself to release the maps for free in the 1.5 patch last September, just when nobody cared.
  • SoapMactavish94 #37 2 years ago

  • Shikasama #38 2 years ago

I think I'd like to see the maps for free (because honestly, on an online game whats the point in dividing off your player base?) but maybe new classes/kits/specilisations for micro transactions.

Note the difference between DLC and a microtransaction. What I have in mind would be say, a new gun that fires snakes for 50 pence or whatever.

  • MinerWilly #39 2 years ago

I will buy everything , Battlefield series is the only game fracnhise/ip that I own every single thing ever released and the DLC for this will be getting bought too .
  • metalangel #40 2 years ago

Yes, I really, really want to know that a game that cost me almost £40 is going to cost me even more. Especially a game where I am regularly denied the apparent privilege of playing it because there's not enough server capacity.

And then I think back to how all this got started. BF1942, where there were two paid expansion packs, but also two FREE map packs (Philippines and the fantastic Battle of Britain) released. Where we could host our own games, either p2p or with a dedicated server. And let's not forget the mods... Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope, Eve of Destruction, 2042 (a post-apocalyptic mod that had a ridiculous amount of work put into it and that maybe a dozen people ever played). To be quite honest, I'd happily play those, still, and this be damned.
  • gjgjg #41 2 years ago

roll on digital distribution, i like the idea of dlc plans but it should be to give the players more, not for the sake of margin$. i know they need to make money etc and i actively support that (bought ac2 dlc never played it cos i felt guilty for buying 2nd hand disc!) but i think digi dist. will swing more in the favour of the studios bottom line and therefore they have more chance to make profit and relax a bit more about these dlc plans and what 'makes' them.

but anyway ill still buy all these dlcs until then. expand me (while shrinking me)
  • SleepyDeathFred #42 2 years ago

Nah man, short, 2-3 round bursts but thanks anyway - I've just unlocked the Abakan or whatever it's called - seems to be a lot more accurate.

Remember when BF1942 patches introduced new maps for free? Or when they gave us a lovely updated Wake island map for BF2? Great days.

I also remember that BF42 got 2 expansions (Road to Rome and Secret Weapons), BF2 got 3 of them (Special Forces, Euro Force and Armored Fury) and BF2142 got one (Northern Strike).
Why should it be different for this new game?
  • Rusty_M #45 2 years ago

If they're planning on charging that much, I'd hope there's a good amount of content for the price.
  • Freek #46 2 years ago

For those of you who got the "code invalid" message; the code is case sensitive and you need to add the dashes (-) yourself otherwise it won't accept it.
A bitt clumsy, but it does work.

    @BlankOBlank!

Yep, if you entered the code as it looks on the sheet there are no issues.
