Bethesda hopeful of The Pitt fix today
Final checks were done last night.
Bethesda is hopeful that a working version of The Pitt will be available from Xbox Live Marketplace later today. The team was doing final checks on the content last night, according to the Bethblog.
The developer removed the corrupt Fallout 3 DLC file yesterday after Xbox 360 users reported seeing wacky in-game graphical glitches, such as floating exclamation marks. Bethesda told us the problem was localised to the English version of The Pitt.
The DLC costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) and takes place in Pittsburgh, evidently. There's an abandoned steel yard full of enemies to explore, plus a Downtown settlement divided between slavers and slaves to investigate. There's even an enticing Raider infiltration mission to embark upon, as well as a spattering of unique items to seek and extra side quests to tackle.
Fallout 3 DLC, remember, is exclusive to Xbox 360 and PC. Incidentally, the PC version of The Pitt remains unaffected by this recent hiccup.
We'll post our thoughts of The Pitt soon.

I should really go back to F3...i never really got into it, even though most gamers tend to tag it with GOTY etc. I really want to like it, i do....but it didn't grab me so far. Maybe because i immediately rushed into the wasteland and found myself fending of hordes of enemies with little to no supplies and weapons.

For me this is my favourite game of 2008 but I do think it's a pot-boiler and that it isn't apparent just how good it really is from just playing it for a few hours. I don't know that it's better than Oblivion for me personally - I preferred the colourful fantasy setting more - but it's damn close and considering I rated Oblivion way ahead of most other games this generation despite its flaws, well I don't think I need to say any more really...

I'll try and level up, get some better equipment and plow my way through the main story and some side quests. Hopefully i'll rank this as one of my favourite games too (twas the reason i bought it in the first place)

I initially maxed out my character's strength as this allowed him to carry more stuff, including all the weapons I found. Any duplicates were used for repairs and extra ones were discarded. This way I found that it was hard to run out of ammo as any enemies I killed invariably left ammo for at least one of the weapons I was carrying.

"I am a massive fan of Oblivion and, like you, I was initially underwhelmed by Fallout 3 for the first eight or so hours"
Funny, I loved Fallout 3 from the get-go but struggled to get into Oblivion and never finished it. Ive often thought of going back and giving it another go, maybe I will now.
@Ninja_Tino
"Yeah, just follow the main plot for a while and tackling side missions as you get 'em."
I have been told since, that it was a good idea to follow the main plot for a while in Oblivion which is what I did in Fallout at first so think will give Oblivion another go trying this.

i don't think it's the difficulty. my gut tells me i shouldn't have left the beaten path. I went to the megaton town, did some chores but felt bored and just ran away, ignoring the main plot (one of the reasons i LOVED oblivion). Then i was quickly outgunned and outnumbered and had to retreat into some random villages which were overrun by enemies as well. So i was forced to keep on fleeing untill the point where i now am. I'm somewhat of an oldschool gamer, so lowering the difficulty to win is 'not done' in my book
But all this talk of F3 kinda makes me want to play it again, so maybe i will today.

I think it's a great game, so hopefully you'll get into it once you're a bit more levelled up.

There are millions of small touches that do this leading to lots of standout-haunt-you-forever moments, and none of them are in your face. Which is why so many people tout this as their GOTY. But the flipside to this is that you really have to invest in the atmosphere of the game, Its definitely a scratch beneath the surface type of game.
On saying that though, I really disliked Anchorage, but I have high hopes for The Pitt to reign it all back in for me.
