Bejeweled add-on coming to WOW

Valve's Gabe Newell once commented that World of Warcraft wasn't so much a game as a platform in its own right. Well, he's been proven right by respected puzzle game developer PopCap - it has decided to release its classic, Bejeweled, as a free game-within-a-game for World of Warcraft.

PopCap has re-written Bejeweled as an "add-on" - a small plug-in program for WOW, normally used by the community to modify the game's user interface.

There are some details on PopCap's site, and WOW Insider has some hands-on impressions of the beta version of Bejeweled for WOW.

As well as Classic and Timed modes, the game features a special Flight mode which pops up automatically every time you take an in-game flight, challenging you to score as high as you can before you land. The game also fires up automatically if you die ahead of your friends during a raid.

Bejeweled also features its own achievements and and "skill system", mirroring WOW's.

Bejeweled for WOW will be released, for free, on PopCap's site later this week.

    As much as I love WoW, and I do... You do tend to spend a lot of time waiting for things to happen - that is, in my opinion, its only downfall. So this will help!

    yea, you know, jokes aside, this says to me, we know you're bored, but we've run out of content to give you

    now, i hear you cry, thers an x-pac coming. Quite frankly they should have at least some small content patches ready for this

    anyway, not my problem, the WAAAAGGHHH roles on

    im playing WAR atm anyway, and will get wotlk too when its out.

    How on earth can anyone be complaining about free content. And especially since bejeweled is a better game than wow.

    Nice.. Now those 7 min flight times from Orgirmmar to Tanaris wont feel as long. Hurra PopCap!

    Hang on, let me check the article again. No, no definitely no mention of Blizzard in all this. It's PopCap who are doing this not Blizzard. In fact Blizzard seem to have nothing to do with it.

    Maybe you should read the article?

    Edit (from the WoW Insider article):
    "The addon, however, is completely unofficial -- Blizzard knows about the addon, but Popcap isn't releasing it with them at all. The producer of the app at PopCap told us that this is something they just wanted to do for free for the WoW community."
