Beautiful Katamari appears on Xbox Live

Download the roll-em-up directly.

Beautiful Katamari has become the latest addition to Xbox Live's Games on Demand library.

For those who aren't familiar, Beautiful Katamari sees you rolling a sticky ball round a series of environments, picking up objects as you go.

The game is now available to download directly for £19.99. You might want to try the free demo before you buy, though, as it may not be to everyone's taste - read Tom's review for the full lowdown.

It's a brilliant game, but half the game is missing and in the form of expensive DLC. If they're going to charge £19.99 for it, the least they could do is include all the DLC.

    Lol.

    MS charge £19.99

Advert at the side of the page selling it for £9
  • SAMagic #3 2 years ago

I think MS are selling it at that price just to cover all of their bases and because people _will_ pay for it (Lazy ones without a local game shop I guess). They did recently announce that they're reviewing the GOD price anyway.

I've heard a lot about the game so finally tried the demo just now ... it was fun but after the 3 minutes, it ended. I was left confused and wondering whether I had succeeded in gathering objects...?

    M$

LOL U SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

Seriously though, that ShopTo advert placement is hilarious. £20 is a disgusting price, to be frank.

    "Apparent" high price?

Are we missing something here? There are a number of relatively new - like, released in 2010 new - titles out there which can be had for around £20 if you shop around. And you can sell them on, unlike this.

I wanted to like it but ended up trading it in. I have Katamari Forever on PS3, the one and only time I will say the PS3 version is better.

When they start offering new releases at £29.99 I may get interested.

Wouldnt buy this one from GOD but did buy Bioshock the other day. Could only find crappy looking second hand copies and they were 15 quid so I went for it.

Now I just need a bigger HDD! :)
  • LeSpank #9 2 years ago

I bought this on a 2 for £20 from Gamestation about a year ago. Both games came with boxes and manuals and everything. But thanks Microsoft, thanks for this great opportunity to download it instead for twice as much and put it on my 20GB HDD. But hang on! My HDD is full and you want about a billion quid for a replacement one.

    M$ can fuck my cock

£4.99 second hand at Gamestation. GOGO! :D

BK was a big let down for me. An overly verbose King of All Cosmos (more so than normal), long loading times, a clunky stage navigation system, a higher difficulty than previous Katamari games...I beat it once and promptly sold it. The 19.99 is also way too high, although I can see some Microsoft reps justifying it by citing the fact that it's considered a rare title by some.

I'm really not trying to make this a console vs. console issue, but for anyone who happens to have a PS3, Katamari Tribute/Forever is a great alternative with lots more levels.

It really is insane the pricing for Games on Demand. What do I do? Pay 19.99 for GRAW2 and lose a couple of gigs storage on my hard drive, or pay a tenner for the disc? It's a no brainer.
  • swills #15 2 years ago

All the whining about the pricing is just pointless. If you don't want to pay it, you don't pay it. I know I won't.

But if there are people for who the extra tenner is worth the benefit of not having to get off their couch and trawl their local game shops, or for that matter who have enough disposable income that 10 quid or 20 quid really is no different to them then let them get on with it. They aren't hurting anyone.
  • oupe #16 2 years ago

Too expensive, the original game wasn't full price to start with.

I really liked it though. If you haven't played any Katamari games before, this is great! It gets trumped by the newer PS3 version though, framerate is vastly improved.
  • geeza2020 #17 2 years ago

Swills - "They aren't hurting anyone" - Apart from all of us for whom this extra 10 quid they are quite happy (and moronic) to pay for the convenience is actually a fair whack (relative to the price of a game). If these morons didnt pay and did go trawling the shops for second hand, even bargain clearances on new stock, they would get the games cheaper, and MS would be forced to lower their GoD prices to compete. At the moment they wont lower the prices becuase some fucking morons keep paying them.

Well if you lads in the UK think your getting ripped off, try this out for size.
Its €29.99. When converted with todays exchange rate it should be 19.99 GBP = 22.93 EUR
They really need to snap out of it.

Anybody who doesn't find Katamari to their taste is dead inside.
  • TeaFiend #20 2 years ago

Most tuesdays we have this discussion on here.

We all know that it is possible to GOD games cheaper in shops. We have agreed on this quite a few times. The reasons have been listed quite a few times. Can we discuss the game rather than the apparant high priced service that is cheaper to have at retail?
  • Gecks #21 2 years ago

@geeza2020 - you do realise if the people buying GOD games at these high prices did in fact take their custom elsewhere and hit the sales and the second-hand shelves, then the prices of those would go up?

MS would never be 'forced' to lower their GOD prices - that's the 'beauty' of an optional download - there's no real cost to them if it doesn't sell - it's a punt on their behalf. i never quite understand the vitriol directed to it when there's ample cheaper alternatives.
