According to a Financial Times report, representatives for the Beatles are talking to both Activision and MTV, the owners of Guitar Hero and Rock Band respectively, about creating a "Beatles-themed game".
The FT's source claimed the deal could be worth "several million dollars", and said agreement could be reached in the next few weeks. However, Apple Corps - the company that manages the interests of the popular half-dead Liverpudlian beat combo - is notoriously slow to embrace new distribution opportunities, or any kind of licensing. The band's legendary catalogue is still not available on iTunes due to legal disputes with Apple Computer.
Activision did not comment, while MTV claimed simply to be talking to "virtually every major rock artist all the time". It is not clear whether the discussions revolve(r) around making the Beatles catalogue available as downloadable content for existing versions of Guitar Hero or Rock Band, as part of future sequels, or as a standalone music game.
Neither does the report specifically mention exclusivity to either series, though that seems to be assumed
A Beatles deal could be a decisive factor in the struggle between Rock Band and the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour. We'll be watching this one with interest.

Isn't a Beatles game thirty years too late?
Somehow I don't see a crossover between the Gears Of War and GTA crowd with fans of horrific sixties pop. Then again my knowledge of Venn diagrams is a little rusty. Now that I've written that, the image of an Uzi toting John Lennon screaming 'Give peace a chance, my arse' could be kind of fun. |

It'll be a gh:aerosmith type game, following the rise of the beatles, mark my words. RTS beatles would be good though (imagines units of john-and-yoko-in-a-bed floating towards military enemies, making them put down their guns...)

Speaking as a 25 year old male raised on Beatles records and classic rock, I'd love them to get on Rock Band. In fact, that's exactly what my 24 year old wife said she wanted yesterday - she's a massive Lennon fan...

They usually change the law when the beatles rights come up. It's worth too much to the UK!
We all want our personal favourites to have a Guitar hero/rock band game but I think a Beatles one would be great! Daytripper and Lady Madonna FTW! PS Why, why, why have they not put Motorcycle Emptiness in GH?????? it is so obvious, the main rift would be great in it! |

Howabout....
Everybody's got something to hide, except for me and my Super Monkey Ball? I personally thing a Beatles Guitar Hero would be pretty good - as long as they picked out the better guitar tracks....Helter Skelter would be cool. I still hope that they get Zeppelin - that is the license that would have a deciding factor on whether Rock Band or Guitar Hero wins. |

/wipes the sense of nostalgia from the screen and continues in usual grumpy-old-man stylee "feeding at the teet of the cash cow that has become music tie-ins" is my initial response but i live in hope that this will come to something ok... yes, a FPS where all targets are Yoko sounds awesome but i can hardly see this being much more than an Aerosmith rip-off i for one want a Stones version at the same time - seriously who wants to p1ss about learning Elinor Rigby when you could have Paint it Black?!!?!! i start to get the feeling that i ami too old to defend re-branding music to a younger generation that, in the main, doesn't give a flying fook who the Beatles/Stones/Capt Beefheart/Zep etc were. Go nuts kids - the Beatles were as good as what your teacher tells you... The Snake EDIT - bah wine does for typos...
