Another heap of songs have been confirmed for Guitar Hero World Tour, including "Beat It" by Michael Jackson.

Word comes by way of Stuff magazine (read by Joystiq) which previewed a recent build of the game.

All but three of the 14 tracks mentioned had previously appeared in leaked document said to contain the entire set list for Guitar Hero World Tour.

New to us are "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" by Smashing Pumpkins, "In The End" by Linkin Park, and "Obstacle 1" by Interpol.

Here's that list in full:

  • "Are You Gonna Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz
  • "Beat It" by Michael Jackson
  • "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" by Smashing Pumpkins
  • "Everlong" by Foo Fighters
  • "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen
  • "In The End" by Linkin Park
  • "Light My Fire" by The Doors
  • "Never Too Late" by The Answer

Along with what Bealsy said, penahlion, I take it you haven't heard the Fall Out Boy cover?

asphaltcowboy - I was actually making a comedy reference towards the multicoloured michael jackson. The original also had guitar - supplied by one Eddie van Halen.

I think GHIV needs to be renamed QUICKLY. We the Coldplay tracks recently, now this... when will it end? Abba?

These songs don't belong here they need to be move on.

@ madgerald - why doesn't Beat It fit in with Guitar Hero? It has guitar, played by Van Halen. What else do you need? The guys a legend.

@Bealsy: I know ;) I was just saying that if he had completely forgotten that there was a guitar in the original, it would certainly be interesting to find out what he thought Fall Out Boy normally used to make their music!

You can't really say they don't belong there. It's not just guitar anymore, it's more about the experience you get from playing as a band, that even means pop music now.

@Bealsy - Yes, Van Halen is a legend; but Beat It is a pop song and I'm guessing most people don't listen to it for Eddie's amazing guitar solo. You have to ask yourself what the note chart for this will look like - on the guitar front, I'm thinking there will be quite a lot of waiting to play notes. Call me old fashion but I want to play guitar-focused songs on Guitar Hero. I am aware that GHIV is all about the band experience.

Come on 'Beat it' is great and had a cool video to match. Wierd Al's was also brilliant

I got that iconic tune running through my head now. This was from MJ golden era before the weirdness and messiah complexes set it.

I think it would be fun to play on GH.

Also Fall Out who?

@madgerald, "on the guitar front, I'm thinking there will be quite a lot of waiting to play notes"

Why? The song is no different, in guitar terms, than most other songs on the GH games. Repetitve riffs and then something more individual towards the end.

Personally, I think a little Jacko in the game will be a good thing. Fuck, I'd even welcome some Jazz in downloadable form, as the whole thing is getting just a little too samey and dull with the current focus on "Rock".

Not that I intend on getting GHIV, but this seems one of the better tracks.
TBH, I couldn't expect much better, i've got my Boston pack on RB, and not much could beat Boston...Except Carry on my wayward son, which RB2 has eitherway >_>

@rotmm - OK OK OK OK OK - I've just listened to it again and yes, there is quite a lot of guitar running through it (actually all the way through)

I WAS WRONG! :(

Just goes to show that I don't listen to that song for the guitar work.

Or was I thinking of Billy Jean?

sometimes i wonder how many potential Van Halens have a guitar hero guitar in their hands instead of a real guitar, just like i wonder how brilliant a skater i would be now if i hadn't started playing tony hawk - the 360 flip was so much easier and less painful in the virtual world, ahhh... less pain feels so good

Great song, insanely repetitive guitar track. Still, it'll look great on the ads and shift some units, so what's the problem?

The solo will be fun, though.

If you don't know the difference between BILLIE JEAN and BEAT IT, you should be shot.

"and I'm guessing most people don't listen to it for Eddie's amazing guitar solo."

You must be fucking joking, it's one of the best parts of the track. Since when can you determine any song is one genre and one genre only?

@Suj - take a chill pill mate..

You're telling me that a majority of people who purchased Thriller parted with their cash because Eddie played guitar on Beat It? There was me thinking it was because some dude called Michael Jackson was singing the songs. :p

Also, its very easy to put music into single genres, that's why they have genres - makes it easier to find the country and western section in your local HMV. Yes, some songs are more difficult to place - those mash-ups with Jay-Z and Linkin Park where the hell do you look for them in Woolies?

Ok, I have chilled ;) Whilst I agree the majority of people didn't buy it simply for the solo etc as you said, with regards to the song itself - it's great, especially the EVH solo. I reckon it's, pardon the pun, instrumental to the song.

I did listen to Beat It today and yes, it is a great guitar solo - the guitar work is "instrumental" to the track. I got it completely wrong earlier I admitted it then as I admit it now :)

@GMJapan: That's the 1st track I'm going to create in GHWT, if it's not on the set list. The intro does it for me every time.
I even learnt to play it (albeit extremely s-l-o-w-l-y) on a real guitar!
