Was just about to say this sounds as much Bulletwitch as DMC. :)

Criminally underrated game, Bulletwitch. Although the framerate was shocking at times, it had a surprisingly good physics engine and a very unique 'feel'.

"A heroine sexier than Dante could ever hope to be..."

What an odd sentence... unless you're bisexual then surely the definition of sexy very much depends on your own sex and sexuality. I mean straight men are obviously not going to ever find Dante sexy, let alone admit it... ;) LOL

@farticusmaximus:

While I'm glad there are others who've played Bulletwitch out there (I played it through to the end) I can't say I liked it much ultimately.

I loved the over the top ELG style they were going for, however I felt the gameplay was both clumsy and uninspiring. Oh and graphically it was underwhelming to say the least.. : )

I agree it was generally clunky and sometimes fugly, but at other times it was awesome (blowing up the petrol station just before one of those big floating brain guys).

Sometimes you really did have to persevere to get to those cool moments though. ;)

It is acceptable in these enlightened times to acknowledge that someone might be considered sexy without automatically declaring your love for them... We're not at school any more =)

The bit I loved in Bulletwitch was getting chased by the mega-mutant on the railway lines over the bridge, then collapsing the big wooden tower thing.

I liked running up to the snipers as well, they'd just cower when you got close and these rotting zombies would start giving you the 'don't hurt me! I've got a wife and kids to feed' lines.

It was undoubtedly ropey in places, but very playable and quite lovable.

I'd rather have the team making a new Shinobi. The heroine doesn't look appealing at all. It's like all japanese fetishes arbitarily thrown together.

Having thoroughly consumed Devil May Cry, God of War and Prince of Persia, I am not really enthralled by the promise of ridiculous special moves. What really matters for me is the design, the difficulty curve, and the storyline - all things that are difficult to judge without a hands-on. I'm reserving judgment.

Also, a hair dragon is merely one step up from Guilty Gear's Millia Rage and her hairmobile, hair chair, etc.

Yep I got fed up playing as a woman. Why the heck is there never simply a choice of a male or female character. Heck ant attack on the bloody spectrum had that choice!

Could you elaborate on that? I don't get how you can get sick of playing as a female character, or a male for that matter. In fact, in the vast majority of games, how is the gender of the main character even relevant?

The female characters have to take more bathroom breaks, have times of the month, and have to take time out of the game to clean up, cook and have children.

Well as long as it's better than DMC 4 it might be worth picking up.

DMC's combat system has gotten overly complicated and fiddly, I hope this feels closer to Ninja Gaiden than the newer iterations of the Devil May Cry franchise.

Quint, are you kidding? DMC4 was a one-button MASHIN' game. Ninja Gaiden 2, for all it's flaws and spiteful game design, at least requires you to A) learn proper combos and B) gather an understanding of the fighting system and use timing, blocking, evading etc to your advantage.

MattyD what about all the stupid sword revving and crap like that?

What I was saying is that NG2 managed just as deep a combat system as DMC4 (if not deeper) without making it so convoluted, NG2's combat was also a hell of a lot more satisfying.

Come on, I thought DMC4's combat system was fairly deep and even developed further from DMC3 whatwith Nero's exceeding and devil bringer and frankly outrageous air-combat abilities. The truth is that DMC4 is easier than Ninja Gaiden 2 (outside boss battles that is, where I felt NG2 has had unexpectadly easy bosses here and there and DMC4 just kept the old huge-dumb-bosses-with-huge-health-bars formula) and that it doesn't exactly require you to master the depths of the combat system if you don't want to. You can really button-mash through a lot of the game but it IS a game where style and imagination ARE awarded and as such it kinda has something for everyone: for 'casuals' you get a lovely looking hack and slash game that can be beaten even if you're not the most imaginative fighter in the world and don't feel like memorising long combo button sequences and for the 'hardcore' you get TONS of options to be efficient, stylish and deep all at the same time.

As for Bayonetta, I have to admit I was expecting GREAT things from this game when it was announced and even if it's just a reinvention of DMC4 with a Japanese-fetish-compendium protagonist I think I'll like it quite a lot. However, this preview does suggest that this is more about shooting than about hacking and slashing which may turn out to be a major step away from the DMC formula. And again, this might be for the good - if I choose to read this in optimistic mindset, combination of outrageous shooting and hair combos (hair as a weapon is just cheesy enough for it to work properly, yes, I love Guilty Gear!) might actually be very rewarding for a discerning combo-keen player.

Then again, it actually could turn out to be just a more polished Bullet Witch (which I thought was near atrocious in its clunkiness and shitty enemies but then again, I am a bit of a spoilt elitist and shit and only could force myself to play through the first half an hour or so) or... I dunno... Blood Rayne???
