Battlestar Galactica MMO

Vivendi semi-denies.

It seems the great MMO monster has gobbled up another innocent sci-fi licence, as news of Battlestar Galactica Online emerges.

Or perhaps not. Earlier we reported that the title looked to be an Xbox 360 exclusive, based on optimistic October predictions from EB Games and Gamestop, and reports on French game sites that the game's development had been confirmed.

Not so, says Vivendi, speaking to 1UP. "EBGames has removed the information because it was not accurate. Vivendi Games has not announced a Battlestar Galactica game. We cannot comment any further as it is our policy to not comment on industry rumors," the publisher said.

The UK arm of the company has so far failed to respond to requests for comment, but others are pointing to statements made to investors last year, which suggest a smaller title based on BSG is likely - possibly targeting PC and Xbox Live Arcade - sometime this year.

(Apologies for the frack-up.)

What on earth do you do in that game? Are you a fighter pilot on Galactica flying endless missions? How do you progress? You can't really customize your fighters or the pilot much...

At least the Cylons have a good excuse for the MMORPG death/rebirth cycle.

I hope this is based on the brilliant new series. It's a perfect game license but I'm not sure if MMO is the right genre.
  • Kostabi #3 5 years ago

What a waste of a license. Another bloody MMO.
  • Blerk #4 5 years ago

Enough with the bloody MMOs, already!

i really hope they do a good job on it, i'm a huge battlestar gallactica fan (old and new) (mainly new though!) and would be a shame if they cock up with this one.

Blerk, say something nice, go on, I dare you.

agreed - even to an MMO junkie like myself, the MMO cashcow is looking like it suffers from bad malnutrition.

let the poor thing recover! :)

Ok this is getting just plain silly isn't it. Someone tell Vivendi we 360 owners would be quite happy to have you give this to the PS3 crowd...no really...they deserve a break....

Blerk, say something nice, go on, I dare you.

Battlestar Galactica is a brilliant show! Can't wait for the new series next week!

There. I can be nice, when it's something worth being nice about. :-)

Does that mean the free PC port using the FS2 engine will not be out. Beyond the red line thing?
  • Furbs #12 5 years ago

Will have no effect at all since Beyond the Red Line is a fan mod and nothing to do with Vivendi. If anything, its kind of interesting that they've chosen not to do the obvious thing and bring out a space shooter. Almost like they dont want to go head to head with BTTRL, or risk the outcry if they gave it a cease and desist notice.

Really cant wait for it, could become the next Counterstrike/Desert Combat. Demo soon please chaps.
  • polar #13 5 years ago

They did the obvious thing and brought out a space shooter just over 3 years ago. It was a load of fracking shit.
  • Furbs #14 5 years ago

That was based on old BSG though.

Agreed though, pile of pants. The first level was so random and arbitary, I'm amazed anyone even got past it. I know I did,t.

Now say something nice about gaming Blerk. Gawn!

Now say something nice about gaming Blerk. Gawn!

Lego Star Wars 2 is the fucking business, man! They should've done Lego Battlestar Galactica.
  • Walshicus #17 5 years ago

Actually the last BSG space combat game was set in a hybrid universe halfway between the old and new series'.

I can imagine how a BSG MMO could work though; the limited population of the fleet would be useful, and could allow for a massive and persistent RPG environment. Even if each server were just a few hundred people in strength, that would be enough to directly control Galactica, its fighters and some marines...

I'd say this is probably based on the idea BSG rather than either series, just like the last game.

Either way we already have an amazing BSG game, its called Homeworld.......
  • jienn #21 5 years ago

there is not a chance vivendi wont fuck this game up. lucky for them there's a lot of bsg fans that doesn't know any better.
