Sounds like an interesting concept. Don't know if I'll like the game, since I might be too used to BF 2, but I sure will try it.

Awesome, can't wait for this - finally an online shooter that does something truly different, and one with an interest in pleasing the general punter - and not so competitve uber-twitch kiddy.

I hope.

As a general rule if the graphics don't look particularly advanced you pretty much say that any PC from the last 5 years will run it.

"So far, so RPG. EA and DICE have clearly woken up to the fact that character persistence, advancement and customisation is the key to hooking players on online games"

Well, I think they were already "awake" when Battlefield 2 came out.:)

It's also a pity DICE still hasn't recognised the best bit about PlanetSide, namely the big battles (399 people on one map=online FPS heaven). Good thing they want to add more complexity/depth to that persistent war though, just a map with changing colours every day and a reward at the end of the week/day isn't gonna cut it in the long run.

Only play FPS's at work over lunch anymore, online ones just don't appeal. Hopefully we can get enough gamers to play this, TF2 died down too quickly :-(

Yeah! What a rip-off! DICE is having a laugh if it thinks it can charge money for...oh.

Is it completely free? Just wondering if it's a mod for BF or a completely standalone free game.

Good to get some more information on this besides the hilarious trailer, sounds like my concerns over longevity were unfounded if it's going to have achievments and a persistant campaign mode from the start.

I can't wait to give this a shot. I'm intrigued though, will you consider paying money for extra stuff in this game? I must confess that, if I play this enough, I'll be tempted to drop a little cash on extra costume parts and the like.

If they weren't charging for this I would probably be accusing it of ripping off TF2 by now.

But they ARE charging for TF2, which brings me to a moral dilemma in deciding which one is worth the asking price more.

This is the mmorpg of the future...Imagine, like TV, a dozen different games of this style, paid for by ads and vanity...A "channel" of a game to suit any mood, all free.

I'd say I've just jumped on the captalism happy-face distraction band wagon, but me thinks I've been riding on it my entire life.

Woohoo! Go Tomorrow!

meh this article has put me off. i'd rather have a more skill orientated game. if i shoot someone in the head i want them to die!

it's not my fault some people are crappy. maybe instead of making it easier for everyone, they should encourage people to practise more

@r3n this game isn't aimed at you then if that's your opinion of the game. It is aimed at the casual person who only wants to play for a few mins to an hour or so every day or people who just want a quick bit of fun. Not people who play for 12 hours everyday for 3 years just so they can shout "chek out my 1337 skillz".

@r3n: Then go back to playing Counter-Strike and its stupid aiming system that doesn't reward you for aiming at the other player, it rewards you for aiming away from him instead. Then don't forget the 1 hit kills, and that sort of game is dull, dull, dull.

This sort of game sounds a bit more tactical and a bit more for the rest of us who just want a quick fun game that we don't have to practice at to enjoy. If I wanted to practice at something, I'd take up a real sport/join the army.

So? You think it'll be the only free online metagame there is? There are enough examples of online games that did exactly this kind of thing, whether they were free or not, and it always remains the same: if it's only some regions changing colours and no long-term goals/consequences then people won't care for it.

So if you want people to play this in short bursts, why are you making it harder for players to kill each other? It sounds exactly like so many badly-thought-out games I've played where common rules like "headshot=kill" just don't apply, especially if they insist on all these MMORPG bells and whistles, bubbles and cooldowns and buffs/debuffs and all that. R3n pretty much feels as I do here; my idea of a quick bit of fun does not involve shooting at people much more than I logically ought to have to. Gun => bang => hit => dead is the way a game about shooting ought to work. Don't get me wrong, the basic idea has legs, a pick-up-and-play action game that's built for low-end PCs is a great concept, I just feel the execution sounds awful. And I'm not defending CS, their aiming model has its own horrible problems, as does the balance and in-game economy.

I hope this works out if only to make people more aware that games designed for older machines are not necessarily a bad idea, in fact they are potentially very lucrative. I'm also interested to see how the economy develops; if I were really into a game, I think I'd be willing to part with cash for cosmetic extras, everyone loves a character creation tool after all.
