Battlefield Heroes beta re-opens News

MMO PC News by Robert Purchese

22 January, 2009

Developer DICE has re-opened beta sign-ups for promising online war game Battlefield Heroes.

Log in to or register an EA account then fill out the sign-up form on the official website to take part. DICE won't say when the next beta phase starts, but promises more information in the "coming weeks".

People who signed up for the previous bout of testing will be given preference, by the way, and when a slot opens for you a notification email will be sent through. DICE plans to add more testers as the beta progresses.

Battlefield Heroes, for those not following, takes a cartoon and MMO spin on the Battlefield series. And by MMO we mean character customisation and hotbars laden with abilities form the hook to keep players returning for more.

But the most unique part is that Battlefield Heroes will be free to download and play. Money will be made through non-intrusive advertising and micro-transactions, which buy pirate costumes or Freddie Mercury moustaches. It's all wonderfully camp.

DICE has also designed the game to work across a spectrum of PCs, from old computers to top-of-the-range muscle-machines.

There's no full release date for Battlefield Heroes yet. Developer DICE is happy to keep expanding the open beta until everything works perfectly.

Head over to our hands-on impressions of Battlefield Heroes for a little excitement.

Are they going to promise to NOT lose our login and password details this time around?

Yes, I'm aware that was a third-party company, but EA could still be using QA Boss and there's not a chance in hell I'd associate with them ever again.

Sorry, but I'm fickle and I've lost interest.

Hope you all enjoy it though! :)

What do they have to test anyways? If the mighty-moustache-of-machinegun-handling throws the game off-balance?

Yeah, my old beta login details have stopped working, my old EA account appears to have been deleted without any warning from EA and signing up afresh for a new EA account and then the beta, there's no way to link my old beta sign-up to this new one, effectively rendering:

"People who signed up for the previous bout of testing will be given preference"

an empty promise.

Way to go EA - my excitement for this game is now almost as strong as that for 'Guitar Hero 7: Miley Cyrus Sings Rock Classics Through the Ages - Muzak Style'.

smernicki, bioreit - We haven't re-opened the beta itself yet, just the signups.

When the actual beta re-opens you'll be notified and able to log in with your old account.

Have fun!

battlefield 3 is a long way off, battlefield games launch in the summer and if it was coming out this year chances are we would of heard something by now.
