    I hate war games but this looks pretty nice

    If they can sort out the servers and clan support too that would be nice :-)

    Pre-Vis Target Render.

    Looks really good. I can't help feeling in the back of my mind that it reminds me of GoW a bit though. :/

    "Pre-Vis Target Render."

    wrong. all those shots, bar the humvee, are taken from the in-engine trailer released the other day. if you watch the trailer there are some artifacts you wouldn't get with a render. i was gobsmacked by the trailer, particularly the lighting of the heads (must be using a sub-surface scattering trick). then at the end you discover you can blow up anything in the game - any wall, any building.

    sounds awesome...

    nice to see that not all next gen games are using the unreal 3 engine

    That trailer rocks. Most impressive. I really hope the game looks as good as that.

    It's a shame to see such great effort going into a completely unimaginative design. To me, battlefield realism is about as boring as a game can get. To each his own, I guess.
  • symmetry #11 5 years ago

    To each his own indeed. To me, a online realistic combat game is about the best thing I can think of. Especially if it has helicopters.

    But I also love my Wii and I think I will really like Zelda TP, as soon as I can get a free 5-hours stretch to start it.

    True, helicopters are nice. :)

    I thought this was supposed to be a single player / small scale multiplayer squad based game developed especially for consoles using the battefield world and name, instead of another large multiplayer online game like the previous battefield games. It is for this reason that the graphics can look like they do, it isn't going to have to render 32 players and a large world.

    @KraftWerk
    The console BF games have hardly been about realism. It all about fun.

    @Ceatlan
    They are best played in larger groups. Battlefield Modern Combat supports 24 players well. Levels can be pretty big too.

    I agree with disc, they will at least be scaling back the player models.

    @DrDamn

    I know the existing Battlefield games are exactly like that. What I was pointing out was, that as I have been lead to believe that this is not a game in the same mold as the existing battefield games at all, but instead a single player focused, lighter hearted game that just happens to have battefield in the title, there is no reason that they will need to scale back the player models.

  • DrDamn #17 5 years ago

    They have said they wanted to change things in the single player, but Battlefield - even on the consoles, has always been about multiplayer. Can't see them changing that.

    If that's true then surely Sony's Killzone 2 pre-vis is within reach. I believe when I see it.
  • stoopidgreg #19 5 years ago

    the technology is pretty much there to make killzone 2 look true to the CGI trailer, the problem however is not just with the graphic quality, but the camera and animations too. it's an entirely different process making a game engine which combines hundreds of different animations (often not perfectly) with a pretty clunky camera to making a CGI trailer, with all custom animations with blend fluidly. the camerawork in the original trailer really made a big difference to what you feel when you watch it, because it's actually "realistic". compare the way the camera's "eye" moves all around, focusing on key bits and moving with the character - that's really very very complicated to program in a game. the closest i think anyone has come is with the "shaky cam" in gears of war. but even that little trick goes a lot towards fooling the eye and the mind....
