If you'd believe it this is a XBLA/PSN title.

Anyone who spent many hours playing BF1942 will be chuffed as, I think that game was probably the best in the series, so many good maps!!! and the planes were awesome!!

I'm with you on that Olly, Just starting playing 1942 again after a few years away from it. Still as good as I remember just a shame not as many players these days.
Always hoped they would do a ww2 on the consoles as the planes are slow enough to control well with a pad compared to jets. Lets just hope they can bring some more good new maps.

I used to love 1942, the mod that let you use modern aircraft was ace, can't remember what it was called but we used to play it at work every lunchtime. :)

Desert Combat!

yeah I love 1942 as the maps are just SO well balanced, there's a Beach Landing one where you have to charge the bunkers that was immense!

Planes too, handling was perfect even a novice could fly them. I used to hide in the watchtowers on Wake Island with a line of det packs ready to blow up any tanks that would try and capture the airfield...

It's not camping honest.

The original was a great game, but I found the planes we're difficult to control. I once set off in the Flying Fortress (having never practised) and everyone jumped aboard. Needless to say, I crashed not long after..

The planes were far better than any in DC_Final, BF2MC or Frontlines as they were slow enough to be usable without running out of map in less than 10 seconds and having to turn back.

I used to return to the carrier on Wake Island or Midway to repair and rearm before setting off again for another attack!

The best plane moments for me were:
1) the Battle of Britain map for BF1942, returning to France in my BF109 to repair and rearm and then resuming my supression of the RAF
2) Inside the AC130 in DC_Final, running around the inside as an engineer trying to out-repair the ever mounting damage from enemy attacks. That you could sometimes survive crashes while in the hold was cool, desperately running to the rear ramp to jump out when the plane was shot down and started plunging earthwards was cooler
3) the JU-86 in Forgotten Hope... having knife fights and other mayhem enroute to our drop zone.

Whee! I hope BF1943 still lets us scoop up people off the ground/in the ocean by flying low over them and they hit 'get in vehicle' with perfect timing...
