Battlefield 1943 is XBLA's fastest-seller

Over one million customers now served.

EA and DICE have revealed that Battlefield 1943 has become the fastest game on Xbox Live Arcade to sell over one million units.

The game was released in July 2009 and is also available on the PlayStation Network. A PC version is also planned, but there's still no word on a release date.

"The reception of Battlefield 1943 continues to amaze us, even months after the game was released," offered Gordon Van Dyke, producer on Battlefield 1943. "Being the fastest game to reach this milestone is an incredible achievement."

According to Van Dyke, Battlefield 1943 has "set a new standard" for downloadable games. "It's fantastic to see how gamers have recognised the value that the game delivers for just $15," he added.

But is it worth the asking price? Read our review to find out.

Truth be told I hardly play this any more, I thought that they were going to be releasing bits for it every now and again but since release...bugger all as far as I can make out.

Shame really as map fatigue comes around very very quickly and you get end up getting bored.

Great game,it's just a shame they didn't release any more maps.

    @ Tyronne

Agreed re: map fatigue. I played a couple of weeks ago and Wake Island came up time and time again. Can't really bring myself to play it anymore.

I would like to see some European / eastern front maps tbh. Maybe in time for the PC release? Or maybe they are thinking of puting out a bigger more complete version and are holding back for that? *looks hopeful*

given how they sold a million on XBLA alone, a map pack would be well in order imo. i'd happily pay for it too, maybe it could drag me away from the life-eating black hole that is Bad Company 2

i just have that last acheivement to get, (play 100 matches or something) and I just cant be arsed. As has already been said, this game is crying out for a couple of new maps. I'd have to say i'd be most excited if they were to announce the release of a couple of the European maps!

Are people still playing this? I was thinking of going back to it as I couldnt get into the BC2 multiplayer.

"Battlefield 1943 has become the fastest game on Xbox Live Arcade to sell over one million units."

Yet still it only has 3/4 maps, I would have thought there would have been better support for the game considering it's popularity. Maybe after a couple of months of BC2 they may return to it, it's a shame to only have such a small amount of maps, might be nice to have some more achievements while they're at it.

I haven't played this game in ages but I definitely got my £10 worth from it, and more.

Is it easy to find a game on this and how good is the network on this game? was interested but found on a few of the older games that you just can't get into a good game.

It's the kind of game we need more of on XBLA/PSN. Totally worth the money - I don't play it much anymore due to map fatigue as well, but I love the game - the sound of the weapons in 1943 is unmatched - even by BC2, especially the reload ping of the m1.

If they released a new map every month for bf1943 for maybe 3 quid a pop, this would still be gettin played! But I got a good few months play out of it all the same. No complaints.

Awesome game, totally worth the 1200msp.

BF1943 is brilliant. I haven't played it for ages, but it was a daily occurrence for a while. I was always pretty rubbish at it as well, but the squad system meant you could still have a great time on your own little "missions", even if someone else on the map was leaving you standing in the overall score tables.

I totally agree though that a few extra maps would have injected new life into it. Amazed they never surfaced really. Maybe this 1m milestone will get those wheels turning.

Wasn't it effectively a tech demo for BFBC2?
  • Eraysor #16 2 years ago

I have no idea why Wake Island keeps getting remade for seemingly every BF game, it's rubbish.

I'm looking forward to Shadow Complex 2 instead, if it ever arrives...

EA have been banging on about paid-for-demos http://ww w.eurogamer.net/articles/ea-to-... and using BF1943 as an example of how these paid demos could fund a full blown project. Well, here we are - this could be viewed exactly as that. Now release a full blown BF1943 with SP and lots of MP maps, weapons, vehicles, Destuction 2 engine etc (with 1200 MSP rebate for owners of BF1943). No excuses Dice/EA - NOW DO IT!

I really enjoyed this and it helped get me into Battlefield games. I tried the online multiplayer on the original Bad Company and just couldn't get into it, but I downloaded 1943 and loved the pared down online game. It's because of this that I bought and got into BFBC2, which is ace.

I do still play 1943 from time to time, but I'm disappointed in the lack of support. It's not just lack of new maps, but as far as I can tell there have been no maps for ages - they never even did anything about the WEAK sniper rifle. You can shred people with the standard rifle, but the sniper rifle just seems a bit hit and miss (if you pardon the pun)!
