Battlefield 1943, Bad Company 2 unveiled News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

5 February, 2009

EA has officially unveiled Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

The latter will be out this summer as a downloadable PSN, XBLA and PC title. Players will be whisked back to World War II and do battle in tropical locales Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, using period vehicles and weaponry to wreak havoc.

DICE made a name for itself with Battlefield 1942 many moons ago, and is relishing the chance to revamp the experience using brand new tech. We're told this will be playable at the New York Comic-Con this weekend.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be out this winter and build on the destructive, humorous and story-driven original that welcomed top-notch scores. Thick jungles, snowy mountains and dusty deserts will provide the background this time, with piles of weapons at hand to reduce everything to rubble. The celebrated multiplayer will return, too.

Head over to our Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943 galleries for the first screenshots.

Download only 1943? Only 3 maps?

Why :(

Give us 6!

I'm guessing the 3 maps may be an initial thing, if it sells well enough I would think they will release a few more maps.

Just a shame its the pacific, means we wont get to see classic maps like el-alamein in there :(

Both these games are day one buys for me. DICE and Criterion are doing amazing DLC at the moment. I mean an entire game at retail quality for XBLA WOW. I don't care it its only got 3 maps Quality>Quantity.

Bad Company 2 is a day one purchase for me. Hopefully they will do a nice gold box like the first game. Will see how 1943 turns out.

BF1942 is definitely one of my favourite games of all time. This is rather exciting news.

Interesting it's a DL title. I like the sound of it to be honest...

Oh wow.

I had written BF:1943 off, as for some reason I had just assumed it would be a PC only title. Can't believe it's a XBLA (always pronounce this as 'ex-blah' in my head) and PSN title too!

I will probably get this, but I just wish they'd do an update of BF2:MC - for me, that was the epitome of a game developed for consoles. At no point did it ever feel like it was a PC game borked into working on a controller. And the feel of the character was spot-on.

Plus, having four of you bail out of a hovering chopper onto the Chinese skyscraper in Bridge Too Far, or parachuting down when the snipers finally found you just made the game an awesome team-game experience that for me, has *never* been repeated.

/still doesn't get why BF:BC has no parachutes. And Frontlines just didn't cut it. Yes, I'm bitter :-)

I always liked the Pacific maps in BF1942 best... fleet battles, submarines, torpedo runs... yay! Forgotten Hope was amazing too, they should just licence that!

bf2mc (360) over bfbc for me. sp missions are better coz they are missions and (aside from the quicksnipe cheat which MS do nothing to fix) the multiplayer is way better coz the environments arent destructable, meaning a spawnrape fest isnt a possibility in every game. as someone else said, bf2 in bfbc clothes would be better

DC_Final or Forgotten Hope as proper full games would be ideal. Neither BF2MC nor Frontlines quite captured the sheer joy of DC_Final. Eve of Destruction (Vietnam Mod) was a damn good'un too.

Hell, am I alone in being depressed that these mods were vastly superior to the commercial releases?
