Banjo-Kazooie 3 named, detailed News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

13 May, 2008

Banjo-Kazooie 3 is to be suffixed Nuts & Bolts and will let you dynamically build vehicles as you collect parts around each level.

That's according to the increasingly famous poster called SolidSnakex on NeoGAF who has listed the entire contents of an upcoming Game Informer preview. Rare declined to comment.

Banjo-Kazooe 3 is Xbox 360 exclusive and is said to be among the first Rare projects to be solely developed for the platform from the outset.

Because of this, Rare wanted more than a high-resolution Banjo platformer, although despite the large vehicle focus there will still be plenty of platform elements like tight-rope walking and "jiggy" piece collecting.

An example of the vehicle tinkering given in the Game Informer piece was a four-wheeled kart with a spring attached on the bottom that allowed it to hop over things. This later had a helicopter blade added that enabled it to fly. Then it had balloons added and the helicopter blade put on the back to make it work like a hovercraft.

There was also a monster truck vehicle that detached its chassis to become a mini-bike which, when launched off a cliff, stretched out its collapsible glider wings and started flying.

Rare is apparently aiming at around 1600 collectible parts and weapons with which to customise your rides. You'll have to collect notes to act as currency so you can buy vehicle blueprints.

The main area will be Showdown Town that is apparently 16 times bigger than anything Rare has made before.

Each of the six different levels will have a unique introduction, such as a spoof of an '80s soap opera, and there are around 15 challenges and side-missions spread across them to keep things fresh.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is due out this Christmas period.

Pop over to the leaked Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts screenshots to find out more. And remember, it is definitely not a racer.

Sounds quite fun actually from the description, adding something new to the mix while still retaining the collecting and platforming bits from the earlier games. Please, PLEASE be good!!!

About time! lol

I've never played the other games on the series, so I can't comment on expectations.

@Artemus - Not played Viva Pinata then, eh? ;)

I actually thought Kameo was excellent fun too (plus it looked, still looks, gorgeous) but Perfect Dark Zero wasn't quite so hot sadly, definitely a casuality of the rushed launch sadly.

Actually, I'm still not 100% on this either. From what I am reading it seems that it's mainly vehicle based, but with a bit of platforming added in.

Hoping it'll turn out ace in any case, as I loved the first two :-).

Does you honestly think Rare's output has been as good since they started having money fights with Bill?

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo 1, Conker, Donkey Kong

compared to -

Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Perfect Dark, Kameo, Viva

I think they lost it before Nintendo got rid of them. Conker's BFD and Starfox Adventures were a let-down, as was BK2.

Hmmm.. I thought Kameo and PD0 were cack frankly (although I loved viva pinata), but I dont see how Rare could possibly cock up BK3. Thumbs tenatatively skyward.

They're not just vehicles, they're contraptions. You don't just make them for transport purposes. eg. you can make a hoover contraption when you need to suck something up.

Artemus,

I honestly think that each game should be judged on its own merits and not be condemned beforehand, compared to previous glorious or not efforts of its developer.

As for Rare "losing" it, I enjoyed Conker, Kameo and Viva Pinata enough to warrant interest in both BK3 and VP2. I'm sure others may feel differently, but to generalize like that, without even seeing this game in action, is in my opinion wrong...

Seems they skipped the platforming bit to focus on collecting and vehicles.

The question is, making a game where you collect 1600 parts to make vehicles, is that really a wise decision ? only if there is a very addictive multiplayer component. ;)

Having now seen a vid I'm a bit worried. Lots of vehicles and the land based stuff in particular did not look smooth or connected. I fear for the controls. I would have preferred a proper platformer - it's not like the 360 is flush with those and gagging for vehicle / shooty games is it?

Yeah, I have to agree with you there, I found they had started getting a bit samey to be honest; for a while all Rare did was Mario 64 /Zelda clones. Starfox Adventures looked a lot better before Nintendo forced the square StarFox peg into the round Dinosaur Planet(?) hole. It just never worked for me. For a start, they have interplanetary space ships and the main character is using a bloody stick!

I've got big hopes for BK3 though, it's been a while. :)

Did anyone notice the 8-bit Mario in the trailer for this on youtube.......would Nintendo allow this or is there not much they can do?
