Bangai-O Spirits heading to Europe

DS masterpiece is August-bound.

D3Publisher will be bringing Bangai-O Spirits to Europe in August. Celebration! Happiness!

This is the fantastic DS side-scrolling shooter you may notice we gave top marks to at the beginning of the month.

But it's much more of a game than its genre suggests. "It's glorious; eclectic, furiously inventive, dizzying, baffling, confusing, witty, clever and beautiful," beamed Dave McCarthy after fiddling with a Japanese import.

"Some of the time it's like WarioWare; some of the time it's like Gradius; some of the time it's like Brain Training. But you never know what to expect."

And he had even more excitable words to use about it in his full Bangai-O Spirits review, which you should probably read.

    Good Times!

I enjoyed the Japanese version, but found the language barrier hampered me in my progress.

Very much looking forward to an english version though.

Can't wait, my DS has been gathering a thick layer of dust over the last few months. I've never played any of the previous games but it's never to late.

Well at least I'll be able to have some idea what's going on in between the levels so!

    It's Treasure's best game yet.

    Yes, really.

Says a lot that a quality game like this can only muster a depressing 4 comments... Guess everybody's too busy bitching about others games to actually care. The dreamcast version was brilliant. Can't fault Treasure. A quality dev if you ever needed one. Looking forward to this.

Tried it, couldn't make sense of it. Can anyone explain to me how this game is good?

You have to wade through menus with a bazillion choices for your weaponry before a level that takes about 2 seconds to complete. Menu, next 2-second level.
I didn't find this rewarding at all - or did I miss something?

I'm still trying to work out wtf this game is!

And yes. I read the review.

It was discussed at length in the review thread, not surprising there's little comment here. Euro release is fantastic news, can't quite believe it to be honest.

Indeed, this is wonderful news. I also found out that Dragon Quest IV-VI will find its way over here, starting in september. So yes, I think I'm allowed to feel a bit happy. Right?

    Can't wait!! Great news :)

"I'm still trying to work out wtf this game is!"

Surely that's the beauty of the game???

    Amazing news!

I got stumped by level 17 on a borrowed Japanese version, but after reading some reviews I think I need to customise my weapons... due to the language barrier I didn't even know that was possible! :)

I'll definitely be picking-up an English release. No question.

Bangaio on the N64 was already my favourite Treasure game anyway, and if this iteration can surpass that (which it sounds like it may very well do) then I'll be very happy indeed.
