BAFTA shortlist revealed for public vote
Batman? Uncharted? FIFA? You decide.
The shortlist for the BAFTA GAME Award of 2009 has been announced, and you lot decide who wins.
This is the only award to be voted for by the public, and the titles range from multi-million seller Modern Warfare 2 to people's favourite Uncharted 2 and Eurogamer office favourite FIFA 10. Or perhaps you like Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Last year over 60,000 people voted for the award, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was crowned as winner.
Get voting on the official BAFTA Game Award website. The results will be announced at the glitzy BAFTA ceremony on 19th March.
Comedian Dara O'Briain is hosting the event and he actually likes games don't you know. "I am delighted to have been asked back to host the GAME BAFTA's for the second year running. It's an honour to acclaim the very real people whose creativity, innovation and wit produce such amazing virtual worlds," he said, not making any jokes.
The full list of GAME Award nominations is as follows:

Just kidding.
Batman:AA gets my vote. Fuck tons more innovation and originality than any of the others in my opinion.

2,5 months after release, patch 1.08 is released (resulting in people not being able to play the game on- and offline !!) and no communication to players whatasoever. Soooo overrated.

These sorts of high profile awards should be granted by a panel of judges who are experts in the field and know what they're talking about rather than being based on the opinions of fans who don't. I for instance have only played 2 games on that list enough to have formed an opinion on them and I'm certain I'm not alone there, how many people in this public vote will have played all 10 games to know which they like best and make a properly informed vote.

Since EG always go out of their way to mention how much they like Fifa 10 I feel I have to mention in every comment I make how shit and over rated it is.

I can't really find too much fault with the list, it is the BAFTA's after all. When has any award ceremony been about quality? It's all politics and trying to gain public interest.
Edit: not that those games aren't quality, most would be in my list... if I had one.

I'm also a bit perturbed at NSMB Wii not being included, and Spirit Tracks being included when Bowser's Inside Story is a far better DS RPG.

I know! I'm stuck between those two as well. Batman just engrossed me, but I really enjoyed Uncharted too. I think Batman may get my vote on the merit of not having annoying bosses.
@EarlBassett
I didn't enjoy Modern Warfare 2 either, mainly because the mp has lost all sense of tactics/teamplay. Also, I'm having trouble understanding how rewarding people doing really well with UAVs/fighter planes/helicopters could be percieved as great gameplay by their designers. Although I have BF:BC2 on preorder for getting me my mp fix.

Or they can give it to The Beatles: Rock Band since the theme of MW2 and Uncharted 2 is "I Wanna Hold Your Hand (Through the game)" or "Run For your life (Repeatedly through both games till its not funny anymore because developers can only think of the same scripted sequence that involves running from some threat)"
Kidding of course, but being Oscar Mike constantly got grating after a while.

Hopefully UC2 wins.
But the day MOdern Glitchfare isn't voted by the 12 year old masses is the day Charlton gets to Wembley.
