Bad Company gets new mode this week

Conquest add-on arriving Thursday.

EA DICE plans to add a Conquest mode to Battlefield: Bad Company this Thursday.

Conquest, which first found fame in Battlefield: 1942, is a team game based around depleting the opposing side's tickets. Shooting baddies dead only loses them a single ticket, whereas holding or capturing objectives drains them far more effectively.

Which all adds a rather welcome dose of variation to the existing Gold Rush multiplayer mode, although Conquest will be played on the existing maps.

Battlefield: Bad Company, in case you hadn't noticed, is really rather good. The game is more single-player and story focused than the rest of the series, but also plays to the strengths of developer DICE with well executed multiplayer madness.

Head to our Battlefield: Bad Company review to find out more.

    Any word as to whether they will patch the game up to improve the comms and squad systems now they have finished coding the Conquest mode?
  • Anthony_UK #3 4 years ago

    As much as i'm looking forward to this, I can't help but think without proper voice coms, conquest is going to be as frustrating as hell, at least in gold crate mode everyone had a common goal

    Dunno - seems to me that conquest suits squads as much as Gold Rush does.

    Dice have mentioned they will look at other issues once this initial update was out the door. This included - with no solid commitment - private servers and team talk rather than just squad talk.

    In fact here is some stuff they said themselves ...

    "Right now the team is working on creating the Conquest game mode for Battlefield: Bad Company together with the conversion of the maps to go with it. The Conquest Pack is currently going through testing and certification.

    We are very aware of the different issues you have told us you find most important. Therefore as soon as we’re done with the above there are several other points of your feedback which we’ll continue to investigate, without currently being able to say with certainty whether or not we will be able to include them. These include, but are not limited to:

    * Clan support/private rooms/team chat
    * Auto balancing on servers
    * Continued support against stats exploits
    * VOIP issue on PS3 (working with Sony on this)
    * Squads might be split up when joining a server as a squad. This is due to team balancing in the games that are being joined, and usually resolves itself in round 2."

    @ phoopipe

    As much as I have enjoyed this game, I don't think so. GTA4? MGS4? Probably some others not released yet. Still impresses me when artillery rains down and deforms the ground and smashes buildings, it just never gets old.

    Team chat would be great, of course. It feels quite lonely when I'm on Live at the moment. Compared to CoD4 where you get almost constant chatter between people, to the point of it becoming a nuisance though. A happy medium would be good.

    I really hope they bring back the transport Helos and parachutes. Also they'll need to widen the maps?
  • DrDamn #8 4 years ago

    @Rashes
    Oasis is one of the maps being used and it is indeed being widened to accommodate the Conquest game type.

    @ apostle

    Certainly GTA etc have been good but Battlefield has dragged me back into and enjoying the murky world of xbox live,my comment was meant a bit tongue in cheek as im sure not many would put it as GOTY,

    Still for me it's been my most played game,although single player suck's a few balls.

    Anyone know if they are going to unlock the weapon that required level 4 in demo to unlock now that the demo servers are essentially shut down?

    If you know what I mean...
  • D_arkTrooper #11 4 years ago

    Unlocking the pre-order sniper jobbie wouldn`t go amiss either as that`s the only one I haven`t got.

    hang on - if the find all five weapons are unlocked for everyone, then that defies the points of them - bonus weapons for those who looked for them, although the pre order sniper is shit, it's like the m21 in cod4, but less powerful and no fun to run around no scoping with.

    Yeah, I don't think unlocking the demo unlock is unwarranted as the demo doesn't exist anymore. Frankly, bought the game after only trying the single player demo, then found out I had to go back and play the f'ing demo more for a weapon. It was always very, very difficult to get on the demo servers, and totally annoying knowing I had the full version available. I fnally got on yesterday and got to level two, only to log off for dinner with girlfriend. After dinner, maybe 100 tries did not get me on a demo server.

    The whole point of a demo is to get people to buy the game. To punish people who bought the game for not playing the demo long enough is just plain fucked up. I didn't much care for the whole "Five to Find" thing at all, but that one just takes the cake.

    What it really needs is some convincing enemy AI for the single-player mode, but I accept that may be beyond the scope of a downloadable patch.
  • barnard666 #15 4 years ago

    I'd love to see more single player content - a more open warfare conquest type thing that allows me to explore the map more (rather than having all those leaving the battlefield messages pop up)

    they need to bring back going prone, really badly. i don't snipe anymore because of it.

    parachutes as have already been mentioned would be nice, with possibly more weapons and vehicles to boot.

    more maps goes without saying, but i said it, just to be sure.

    proximity chat needs to be added in, plus hold a button to communicate with your entire team.

    the 24 man limit is not next gen in any way and an increase in the player cap would be nice. is 32 players really asking too much?

    being able to choose which member of your squad you want to spawn next to would be welcome too. fed up with having a squad mate sit on the artillery the whole game, and spawning next to him, only to find myself with a 5mile hike to the action.

    clan support and private servers would be lovely aswell.

    if they sort out all these things, i probably wouldn't buy another game as long as i lived.
