Bad Company 2 SP DLC possible

MP DLC designed not to segment users.

DICE has said it won't rule out single-player downloadable content for high-flying Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and in the meantime its multiplayer endeavours will be designed not to fragment the audience.

"The good thing about having a post-launch campaign that we have - that we plan to take care of the product for a long time - is that we can be reactive to what people think," Troedsson told IGN (thanks VG247) when asked about single-player DLC possibilities.

"But obviously, creating single-player missions is a much bigger thing than creating additional multiplayer maps."

On the multiplayer side, Bad Company 2's first DLC launches for free on 30th March and consists of two maps - Arica Harbor and Laguna Presa - and Troedsson said DICE's approach to DLC is heavily informed by its experience making Battlefield titles on PC.

"One of the very clear lessons that we learned from that is that the more booster packs people have to pay for, all you do is actually segment the community," he said.

"Team play is very important for us... this is something that we felt that it is probably better to give away a lot of the maps for free, and then perhaps we can have some more paid DLC in the future that is not focusing on that."

I'm still a bit sore about their abandoning of BF1943 on the downloadables to be honest.
  • LiveForever #2 2 years ago

Bad Company 2 at this point in time really needs some more maps, especially for conquest.
I really hope all of Dices talk is not just BS and after 2 more maps they start charging,
great game made better with more multiplayer maps.

    +1 to DICE!

Talk of free maps is great yes. But so far they've given us 2 maps at launch, which I can only imagine were held back from the finished game, and this next bunch of so called free DLC which is basically just unlocking other game modes on existing maps....you can't tell me there's any valid reason why these couldnt be in the final game!

If they release a map pack with 2 or 3 actual new maps I'll be impressed, but I can't see it somehow!

Honestly don't bother with single player DLC. The single player is average at best, however the multi-player is absolutely awesome and all we want is more maps!
  • CaptainQuint #6 2 years ago

I've not been this much into an online game since the early days of Halo 3. BFBC2 is friggin' brilliant and I expect it to keep me going at least until REACH arrives. I hear loads of gamers are even 'leaving' MW2 for this, and rightly so - I packed that in just a couple of weeks after it came out - the game is overrated.
  • Syrette #7 2 years ago

I don't recall them ever saying 1943 would be supported by DLC.

I do recall a few people saying this was the case, without proof.

Feel free to show me the error of my ways :)
  • DjWhizzkidd #8 2 years ago

This isn't DLC, Im not sure why they refer to it as such.

It's unlocking content on the disc, hence why it's just two game modes on two existing maps. Just like the day 1 "map pack". Downloaded in the blink of an eye.

I don't care, I know why they are doing it, I just think its a bit cheeky to be calling it DLC.
  • metalangel #9 2 years ago

First of all, it's a multiplayer game! If you bought it just for singleplayer, you is a bit fick innit. Secondly, this new "map pack" is just two existing maps being enabled for rush or conquest (whatever they didn't have already). What we want is new maps, big open Atcama Desert style maps with lots of tanks and helicopters. You know, like you used to get in Battlefield games?

    yes to maps
    yes to tanks
no to helis (unless they get nerfed; damn those attackhelis)

+1 to wanting more maps with emphasize on vehicular combat.
  • lp24h #13 2 years ago

they should just open all maps across all game modes first and then actually give us some more NEW ones.
  • Br0ken_Engli5h #14 2 years ago

    @Gungrave.

Buying new maps makes you a sheep and preserves your kill ratio?
I don't see what's wrong with a game having a good following based solely on the back of a fantastic multiplayer. BF has always traditionally been a MP franchise and so it was likely that it would be it's strongest mode.

Can't remember BF being about KD ratios. Teamwork, blowing shit up and having fun is where its at. Maybe that's where MW2 multiplayer has floundered.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed cod mp for years and served my time but BFBC2 is looking like a true successor for people who crave online warfare gaming at its best. DICE have added balance where IW couldn't and they're rewarding players for doing the right things during a game instead of cheating.

Hats off to DICE, just don't charge us when the (new) maps are released.
  • ignatiusjreilly #16 2 years ago

    @gungrave

It's a Battlefield game, it's always been about the multiplayer. Previous Battlefield games have not had a single player at all. Just because that is what you prefer doesn't make the game half-arsed. You could say Quake 3 and Counter-Strike were just hiding their medicority with multiplayer, but you would be utterly wrong.

  • metalangel #19 2 years ago

@ignatiusjreilly: Yeah, I know BF3 will be the proper game. But there's not much news about it, or if it's even coming to console... so for now I'm stuck with BC2, driving tanks down paths so narrow they might as well be on rails, and dreaming of the vast expanses of El Alamein in DC_Final.

    @afroofdoom

You thought wrong - I thought the campaign was great and actually a lot less disappointing than the ridiculously overblown MW2 campaign.

this, this, this. Also, stalingrad would be ace.

+1 for Stalingrad. It would be awesome
  • darleysam #23 2 years ago

Sounds good to me. As promised, I played more last night. Started out with some lag and frustration, and ended in a series of epic victories.
I nearly danced around the room when we came back from 40-70 down to win right at the death.
  • Shikasama #24 2 years ago

That's great and exactly what I wanted to hear.

I didn't want the game divided between haves and have nots.

Saying that the single player is very very meh and a DLC patch for it would have to be really impressive for me to consider buying. As it stands it's just a series of stand still and shoot check points with a coupla set pieces.

Although BC2's campaign was good, I think a lot of the "goodness" came from the banter between the squad rather than the story and gameplay being excellent. Some of the conversations had me in stitches.

MW2's campaign from start to finish was oozing quality and it told a very, very good story. Unfortunately it wasn't as blatantly obvious as many people would have liked and there are so many people who played that still don't know what the game was about.

I'm up for DLC especially if it's free, but I don't know what else they could add to the campaign. It's nothing like MW2 where there is still a villain we haven't captured. It told its story and we got the bad guy.

In terms of the MP though, BC2 wins hands down. I would like to see some more game types added for it.
  • ignatiusjreilly #26 2 years ago

it told a very, very good story.

Seriously, i think you might be the first person I have ever heard say that...
  • CaptainQuint #27 2 years ago

The story was clichéd and by the numbers. Seriously, anyone could run their finger along any Tom Clancy title and find basically the same story within. BFBC2's story was by no means anything special, but it was still more entertaining than MW2's rather poorly executed plot. I for one appreciated the slight twist on history which was offered by BFBC2's plot.

I'd actually like "strike at Karkand" , now that's a map I played silly on the pc but now with destruction would be sweeeeeeeettttt
  • chessboxer #29 2 years ago

BC2 had a good plot and the twist was nice but I got MW2 and saw where the story had moved on from COD4. There were some great touches which added to the overall enjoyment (like the name of Airport that "No Russian" took place in and other little bits of info divulged throughout the campaign). It's just a shame about the MP, then again I prefered BC's MP over COD4's.

I for one am looking forward to capturing Makarov in MW3.

    Dear DICE,

no one cares about Bad Company 2's single player. Just make more multiplayer stuff, please.

    Sincerely,

  • waggy79 #32 2 years ago

Thanks for speaking for me Dudefella, but I thought the campaign was fine. Criminally short, but fine, so more of it wouldnt bother me, especially if its free. I like to break up my MP sessions with SP personally.
  • MinerWilly #33 2 years ago

I fully expect to pay for some proper new maps after we get these 2 free updated maps , and I cant wait as its worth every penny where DICE are concerned.
  • sjmlondon #34 2 years ago

Superb multi-player game with so much varieties of weapon and vehicle options. More please.

Knocks the spots off MW2 in this respect.
