AVP to impact Colonial Marines timing

But don't expect it for some time.

SEGA president Mike Hayes has said that the launch of Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines probably won't be scheduled until 6-12 months after Aliens vs. Predator launches in February 2010.

Although he admitted it was early to be discussing Colonial Marines, Hayes told G4 that "it's unlikely that we'd launch anything within six months, but probably nine months, eight to 12 months possibly".

A lot also depends on how well AVP, currently in development at Rebellion, fares at retail, according to the SEGA exec. This would then help determine timing for Colonial Marines and the third of the licensed games SEGA plans to produce.

Hayes also committed to that third game, despite the cancellation of the Aliens RPG originally in development at Alpha Protocol studio Obsidian Entertainment.

Check out our recent Aliens vs. Predator preview and gamescom update to see how Rebellion's effort is shaping up.

Boooo! I want CM more than AVP TBH.

Still I'll be mostly playing both anyway mostly....

Why did they cancel the Aliens RPG? It was the only one of the Aliens games I had an interest in :(
  • Bazfrag #3 3 years ago

I can wait... i have been waiting since that ps2 game was canned all those years ago. Heck, Ripley had to wait 57 years for some cm payback!

They should do an Alien Strategy Game but i guess it would look too much like Starcraft 2, would probably be released earlier too.

As long as Sega don't cancel the game if AvP doesn't sell...

@liveforever. There was an aliens rts on xbox/ps2. Unfortunately its biocom readouts were all in the red. (i.e it was pants!) Had some decent ideas though and was a bit like DoW2 in some ways - no real base building, and an emphasis on combat and strategic points.

Hi SEGA, would you like my firstborn child to fuck that up too?

Very true. Scary stuff really. If they mess this up i will be furious. Just like when they messed up the films.

A game like that could be awesome, like a base or tower defence game, levels where you move your marines into position and deploy turrets to delay the aliens as long as possible while your boffins try to get the McGuffin[tm] to work or while you rescue those colonists daughters. I love the corps! The C64 game was a bit like that IIRC (mind you it was about 20 years ago so I'm not sure I do RC).

It doesn't make sense. Colonial Marines is clearly the game that everyone wants the most, and AVP will just end up being an under appreciated stop gap for most people. So why the hell do they keep pushing Colonial Marines further and further back in the schedules?

So that they can sell copies of AVP and use the money to fund development of Colonial Marines.

It's not looking good for Colonial Marines,. I can see the commercial reasoning in doing another AVP game but I'd rather have the Gearbox game first partcularly as the AVP movies soured any interest I had in the concept.
At this rate the third game will be probably be based on the ill-advised prequel movie.
I never thought an RPG was a good idea though - everyone would want to be either Ripley or Hicks.
A Terminator RPG would work better.

The good news has to be that the longer the developers have with Colonial Marines, the better or bigger the game will be? Nice theory and I hope it works out this way. The timing may work out good too. With so many games coming out in the next few months, CM could well be one of only a few AAA titles around it's release time.

I agree with the comment that AvP is purely a stop gap until Colonial Marines is released. AvP is the Treyarch Call of Duty to Colonial Marines Modern Warfare. Regardless, it's good to know it's on it's way, and that there's plenty of decent games to keep us busy in the meantime.

I can see this game getting closer to vaporware every time I hear about it. A real shame because there is a lot of love for james camerons aliens. Everyone from that genderation can still remember half the iconic lines and watched the film loads od times. Hell even if you didnt who doesnt want L4d style game play with aliens in it 4 player co-op and sentry turrets etc.

Really hope this gets through and its not crap.
  • Doctor_What #16 3 years ago

How many years is that for CM? You can't say that it bodes well with such delays.
  • aids #17 3 years ago

As much as I want CM, I bet it doesn't happen.
  • Bazfrag #18 3 years ago

@sneech. Yeah i had that back in the day. 1st person and i remember you could shoot door switches to seal them, and you could blast them open for good. You could switch between Ripley, Hicks, Vasquez etc. I never quite knew what to do though, but that covers 50% of all games I played as a kid! (and 90% nowadays ;P )

Edited as the memory banks kicked in.

You probably know about this already but if you're looking for on-line competitive squishy humans versus nasty aliens then you could do a lot worse than Natural Selection or Natural Selection 2 (still in dev). The original is a great game (a HL mod) and the second one looks like it should be good.

    NS1
    <a href="http://www.natura lselection2.com/ns

    </a>

    NS2
    <a href="http://www.naturals election2.com/
    ">http://www.naturals election2.com/
    </a>

Edit: the main site makes NS2 look a bit vapourwareish this is much better.

'Although he admitted it was early to be discussing Colonial Marines'...how can it be too early, the fucking game was due at the end of last year wasn't it?

just hand it to someone else SEGA you fucking dildo..why should we wait because you are tied up with the other game,i take it that it was your decision to publish both

or are you just covering for gearbox who prolly don't have their shit together after laying off so many people?
