Atari to publish Ghostbusters game? News

PC PlayStation 2 DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Ellie Gibson

30 October, 2008

Variety is reporting that Atari will publish the new Ghostbusters game.

Word is the game will be released next summer to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie. Apparently executives declined to comment, but "sources close to the publisher" confirmed the news.

Variety is also reporting that Atari has signed a deal with Sony Pictures "to produce further Ghostbusters games should the first one prove successful".

Ghostbusters, you may recall, was originally due to be published for PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS and Wii by Sierra. It features a script by Dan Akroyd and the voices and likenesses of the original cast, including Ernie Hudson, who is amazing.

When contacted by Eurogamer this morning, Atari declined to comment. However, the publisher has just announced it's picked up the rights to another Sierra title - The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, which is out next spring.

Having grown up loving Ghostbusters - 1984, those were the days (The A-Team, Knight Rider and Airwolf!)

And even enjoyed the terrible Speccy Ghostbusters game

It would be great if the game was awesome but as its published by Atari its a definite wait and see

Er, guys, it was being developed before being picked up by Atari. If it's shit it'll be because it was always going to be, not because they're the publisher.

True but Ataris quality control standards are pretty shit - AITD, Matrix and Driver as examples

Whereas another publisher might push the developer as bit harder to get the game more polished.

Fingers crossed

So the opening level of Legendary looks like Ghostbusters, huh? Coincidence? And a guide to the quality?
Hope not.
