Atari to distribute Tekken 6 in Europe

Out next autumn on both platforms.

Atari has announced that it will distribute Tekken 6 in Europe for Xbox 360 and PS3 next autumn as part of its long-standing partnership with Namco Bandai.

The latest instalment in the latter's beat-'em-up series makes its way to 360 for the first time, as Microsoft triumphantly revealed at TGS, and promises better graphics and more fighters than ever, obviously.

There's also the promise of character customisation and online multiplayer.

Check it out in our Tekken 6 screenshot gallery.

Crap, I hate character customisation in fighting games. That nonsense ruins Soul Caliber.

Surprising that its Atari, but I suspect this is as much that EA and Ubisoft didn't want it as anything.

I may have to eat my words soon, as it seems Atari have got a few decent titles up their sleeves.

Sounds like maybe Phil is around doing his thing in Atari after all.

i've seen hd vids of the arcade version of tekken 6 and it looks just the same a tekken 5 but with more shine so not really convinced about this one...

Autumn, thats a bloody long time, how come it takes so long for these titles to develop? (SFIV too). Surly its just a bit of spit and polish on Tekken 5 and away you go.

I like Tekken, I really do but after playing all of them, its obvious that the more recent installments have done little in the way of progress forward. The only 'innovation' I've heard about with regards to T6 is each character's special 'weapon' such as Bryan Fury being able to pull out a shotgun. This is total rubbish and I hope there will be the option to switch that feature off.

Balancing new characters must be tricky - when people analyse frame-delays you've got to be damn good to make sure there's not a clear best character for tournament players.

More the point - Tekken peaked around Tekken 3 (some woudl say Tekken 2), so it's about time they refreshed the game.

You made it sound like they hav promised better graphics on the X360 version.

    PROPOGANDA TWAT!

How could Tekken be refreshed though? Soul Calibur is another example; I hear people saying that it too has gone a bit stale recently. I think that there is only so much you can do with fighting games other than update the graphics and character roster. Personally I think it is better to have a bigger gap (time-wise) between each installment such as the distance between Street Fighter 3 and 4 which seems to have preserved the interest in that series.

I love Tekken. But what's new about this one? I would really like a four player beat 'em up. It would be nice to see Tekken take the lead on that idea. Or at least do something fresh and innovative.

Will Atari be able to change anything? What will their input be?

"Sounds like maybe Phil is around doing his thing in Atari after all."

Not really, Atari have been publishing Namco Bandai titles here for a while now; Ace Combat 6, Beautiful Katamari, Eternal Sonata, Smash Court Tennis 3 etc.

Interestingly though, it was UbiSoft that did Soul Calibur IV.

A gap which was filled with approximately 36 different versions of SF2 :D

gotta admit T6 looks pretty crap and not different from 5 at all, so much so I think "why bother?". Shame really as I thought DR brought series back from the awful 4th game and had me looking forward to 6.

Namco have seriously slipped IMO, even the might of SC got boring really quickly thanks to 4 (but then I did buy the broken online PS version).

    @DrDamn

yeah, there are too many SF2 versions but I was just talking about the main releases. When there's a new Tekken every couple of years, its hard to find the experience just as good as it was in the previous installment.

People will probably mock me for this but i actually look forward to it. I've followed the story line since tekken 1. Its a decent beat em up but i have to add. It needs more features. Tekken 3 had that sort of streets of rage and beachball game just for a small feature and that made a nice addition imo. As for character customisation i love it but i dont like that some clothes give more energy / more attack strength. Just like to custimise my fave character without consequences for not having a stupid looking helmet that gives insane hp... Yes im looking at you soul caliber 4!
