Atari reveals Ghostbusters release date
It'll be out the same time as the Blu-ray.
Atari has told Eurogamer that Ghostbusters: The Videogame will be released in Europe on 19th June.
It'll coincide with the release of the first Ghostbusters movie on Blu-ray, and the series' 25th anniversary.
The Ghostbusters game was originally down to be published by Sierra, before it was swallowed up and spat out by the Activision-Blizzard merger and snapped up by Atari. It's in development for PC, PS2, PS3, DS, Wii and Xbox 360, and a spokesperson confirmed all versions will be released simultaneously.
Roll on June, then...

Anyway, I'm curious to see how this turns out - to be honest I'm expecting it to be a bit shit, but would gladly eat my own words if Terminal Reality prove me wrong.

Let's say this comment thread represents the normal amount of crapness in licensed movie games. According to this game's reputation, it would be a comment thread 2000 posts long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.

What do you mean, "biblical"?
What he means is last generation, Mr. Mayor, a real waste of the license.

It's been delayed for a year due to Activision dropping it, rather than rushed.
Not that that necessarily means it won't be rubbish of course.

I'm quietly optimistic. Atari allowed the devs more time to polish, which is a good sign.

As for the game, I've a soft spot for it so I'll take a punt if it can make 7/10.

I do hope this turns out well, it looks like it has alot of potential to be a great game. But if anyone can make shite out of gold, its Atari...

Well, given that Ghostbusters is a Sony-owned property they could have kept it an in-house product without too much work. With a brand as strong as this and some heavy marketing it could have turned out to be a system seller, but they lose any chance of that when it becomes a multiformat release.

"Let's see, how would they be missing a trick by keeping it first party? Maximising sales on all platforms for a ridiculously large franchise game seems like the way to go."

Do you really think the Ghostbuster brand is that strong? Sure, there's a lot of nostalgia amongst a certain age group (a lot of whom have or might like a console), but a system seller? I don't think so.

They're really taking their time doing this if the release is in June.
