Assassin's Creed PC investigation details

What they are and how you do them.

Ubisoft has revealed the four new investigation types for Assassin's Creed on PC.

These are Rooftop Race Challenge, where you will charge from one informer to another within a set time limit; Archer Assassination, which has you murdering rooftop-dwelling guards in a set area without being seen; Merchant Stand Destruction Challenge, where you have to trash the livelihood of tradesmen tied to your assassination target; and Escort Challenge, which has you guide a fellow assassin somewhere safely.

These will be added to the existing bunch to bring the total number of investigations to nine, although we can only think of four types from the original: Informant, Pick-pocket, Interrogation and Eavesdropping. We're not sure what the fifth is, although Informant was made up of multiple-challenges like flag collection and assassinations.

According to an interview on IGN, the PC version will also run more smoothly with DirectX 10 graphics cards. It's something to do with using less calls to get jobs done.

There will be Xbox 360 controller support as well as four default mouse and keyboard configurations, too.

It doesn't sound as though there will be unlockable Achievements, however, with Ubisoft's Charles Beauchemin saying: "You can still collect the flags and the eliminate Templars but there are no achievements involved." Shame.

Assassin's Creed is due out for PC on 28th March. Head over to our Assassin's Creed console review to find out more.

    Oh boy, escort missions!

    I doubt this will make it more varied, Seeing as how the old missions got tiring after the second mission or so. It's the basic structure of the game and the way you're nor allowed to kill target in a hitman kinda way which broke the game for me.

    Adding escort missions isn't a plus point.

    I couldn't be bothered WITH achievements! Still a great game though.

    this was an amazing game engine but a really poor game. It was too easy but otherwise I loved it. They need to change the mission difficulty but new mission types are always welcome.

    And yeah escort missions always suck.

    How can people say escort missions suck? Does noone remember the Natalya missions from Goldeneye?

    Oh...

    @zuljin

    Exactly escort missions are great, look at Resi 4 and Ashley.

    Oh...

    Will the PC version have all of the bugs that the console versions have still got?

  • Grim... #11 4 years ago

    Having to cap a "zombie" in the head while it was carrying Ashley through a door without hitting her was one of the best bits of RE4.

    AHH, my DX10 8800gtx + 360 controller setup will be put to good use then.

    And 'they' say PC gaming is dead? *ahem*

    @Grim

    That wasn't fun mate. You can never cover four directions at once so would always end up wasting ammo trying to rescue her. I think the best thing ever done to an secort mission was when capcom allowed you to stuff ashley into a bin and just get on with killing the bad guys!
  • neilka #14 4 years ago

    Stuffing women into bins? Don't tell Keith Vaz.

    "Stuffing women into bins? Don't tell Keith Vaz."

    funny stuff! I'm with penhalion, stick her in the bin and get on with it!

    That'll be interesting. I think it's pretty much the first game that promises to use DX10 in a more useful manner, namely not adding a ton of effects till everything slows down to a crawl compared to DX9, but using the same visuals. That said, the required specs are pretty astronomical, anyhow.

    Timed races, stealth and escort missions? Dear god, that pretty much sums up everything that can make a video game into a horrendously bad experience if not done absolutely right.

    At least the smashing up of merchant stalls sounds okay.

    Doesn't sound like they've fixed the two biggest problems with the game, the repetitive nature of assasination missions (including the investigations, it'll help a bit, but not much), and the utterly shite ending.

    Stealth and time limmited chalanges were also in the console versions and they worked great.
    Sneaking acorss rooftops and throwing knives at gaurds results in some of the coolests moments in the game, no wonder they made that into a challange in itself.

    I liked the mythology of the game, the future stuff...I liked where it was going.
