Assassin's Creed II slips on PC

Console versions unaffected.

Ubisoft has just announced that Assassin's Creed II has slipped to Q1 2010 on PC.

Confirmation comes via the publisher's Twitter, which explained that the developer needed "a bit more time to deliver the best quality game to you".

A spokesperson for Ubisoft UK confirmed the delay, and said that console versions of the game will still launch on 20th November.

    Nooooo!

    Be damned, Ubisoft!

This is all about the $ they can carve out even from PC users who own a console, who would never have bought a console version.

I was looking forward to play the game in Stereoscopic 3D with nVidia goggles (extraordinary experience, btw) but now this would force me to wait god knows how many months.

    Damn you, greedy ones.

I'm afraid the same thing will happen with Conviction and maybe Mass Effect 2...
  • TipTop #4 2 years ago

I think this is a new trend in combating piracy to be honest.
  • menage #5 2 years ago

Seeing as how PC version are generally more spectacular and cheaper (if done right) you still have the choice. You can't wait, that's your problem I guess.
  • dienamite #6 2 years ago

It's more likely they're devising some devious method for tackling piracy.
It's such a shame that honest PC gamers are given the shaft.

This isn't a game that I'm desperate for anyway so I'm fine with waiting for the PC version. The first game was OK but got boring fast so this sequel has got a lot to prove if it wants my cash!
  • qoobah #8 2 years ago

    @Indy

I think ME2 was meant for Q1 2010 from the start.

Anyway I'm not that desperate bout AC2 either. Plenty of other (IMO more interesting) games to go with till Christmas.

Not sure about this one. The PC version of the last one wasn't amazing in performance even on a super pc. Might just get the console version on this occasion methinks.
  • Spekingur #10 2 years ago

Now if this had been Modern Warfare 2 the whole universe would have exploded with rage.
  • skillian #11 2 years ago

I'm not that bothered by the delay, but eventually, after this same story has appeared an hundred times, someone is going to have to man up and admit they are doing it for reasons other than the ones they give.

I find being lied to every time a PC version of a multiformat title is delayed far more annoying than the delay itself.
  • spekkeh #12 2 years ago

Well given the heavy piracy, they'd be mad to release any kind of big game concurrently with the pc version.

Do those goggles work well? Last time I tried something like that I got terrible migraines and bugger all else.
  • XAleX360 #14 2 years ago

    @sneetch:

they do work greatly. It's nVidia after all, and the goggles cost some money (130-140 euros on average). Also, you have to change your monitor for a 120hz one (there are two at the moments, a Samsung and a Viewsonic), but it's totally worth it.

The sensation of being there, the depth of space is just incredible, not to mention things that literally look like they come out of your screen. And it's only the beginning.

Check 3D Vision reviews all over the net, they are very positive. I will be reviewing the game myself for the Italian website I work for.

Oh and there is no pain or fatigue at all, I already played two session of more than 2H each and had no problems.

More like Ubi are trying their best to make sure they do not piss Nvidia off like they did last time when they implemented Dx10.1 for the new ATi hardware resulting in massive improvements with anti-aliasing (completed the same pipeline stage in a single scene pass that Nvidia required 2 to do).

So what was the solution - remove said improvements to keep Nvidia happy - twats. Here's hoping it's better on PC all round this time.

Must admit I am starting to become highly tempted by the Nvidia 3D glasses and one of the 3D ready plasmas - although friends on the 360 inextricably keep pulling me back onto it....must ...resist.....
  • XAleX360 #16 2 years ago

You could just buy the Samsung 2233rz which is a great monitor for a start, for 3D ready televisions it isn't really the right time yet, let alone plasmas for PC gaming, latency would be totally inacceptable ;)

Optimization yadda yadda yadda piracy yadda yadda yadda. The usual BS.

At least, this time use well those extra months to give us a fucking QUIT button. We use those in PC, you know?.

dienamite: "It's such a shame that honest PC gamers are given the shaft. "

No, I spoke to both of them, they're ok with this. They're not all that into AC anyway.
  • Bravestinsane #19 2 years ago

Well ill get it on console then, no doubt it will be a Nvidia game which is a load of shit (Not the company or game i have an ATI graphics card so i can't use PhysX, such as in batman when i tuirn them on i get 10FPS lol, off and never drops below 60 with everything maxed)

  • Snidesworth #20 2 years ago

An anti-piracy measure if I ever saw one. Borderlands is being delayed on the PC for optimisation as well, but that's only pushing it back a week as opposed to "two months if you're lucky." Had to wait a month for Batman and three for Red Faction as well. Most frustrating.
  • unacomn #21 2 years ago

So, anybody looking forward to the, erm.. demo?
    *wink wink, nudge nudge*
  • Tetragammatron #22 2 years ago

Whenever I read "via Twitter" I become slightly nauseous.
  • Haloboy #23 2 years ago

    @ Olemak

You won't be saying that when it comes out next year fully utilising DirectX 11 and shafts the console versions every which way into the ground. Plus, there's 3 of us - not 2. Dick.

    Quoted for truth!
    Fucking twats!

Ah and I don't intend to switch off my computer while your game is saving by the way...

that's the best post i've read in quite a while. mostly because it's true
  • Salaminizer #26 2 years ago

this is starting to get annoying
  • ChaK #27 2 years ago

    seriously I'm starting to enrage

WE people on PC also WANT TO BUY your fucking games

and not 6 month later !
  • hiddenranbir #28 2 years ago

    As long as superior version.

But yeah, staggered release is no big surprise. Protects console sale figures.
  • Keivz #29 2 years ago

    @Haloboy!

He didn't talk to me either, so there's at least 4 of us. I'm just happy they're releasing it at all, really. If the honest folks stop buying pc games then they'll surely stop making them. So we're basically funding the pirates' playtime.

I guess last year's Prince of Persia experiment was a bust.
  • StooMonster #30 2 years ago

Please publish on Steam at launch, don't want to have to (a) wait months or (b) wait months, finally buy games, complete them, then six months later they appear on Steam (yeah EA, I am looking at you)

Although good news EA games finally on Steam in UK.
