Assassin's Creed at HMV on Sat

Jade Raymond showing it off.

Jade Raymond wants to meet you lot and answer your questions this Saturday at the HMV on Oxford Street.

She will be showing off Assassin's Creed as part of the London Games Festival, and sticking around to answer probing thoughts like I love you Jade and what are you playing there?

The two presentations will take place at 3pm and 4:30pm, and will demonstrate the latest build of the game, flaunting some new levels you probably haven't seen before.

You can even buy an Assassin's Creed towel or whatever they are selling in HMV and have her sign it for you.

Pop over to the official London Games Festival website for more information and a look at what other events are running as part of it this week.

Is it possible to write a story on Assassin's Creed without mentioning Jade bloody Raymond?! She has probably garnered more press than the actual game has.

Jade Raymond's gonna be HMV you say, yay! I'm there!

Why isn't it renamed Jade Raymond presents Jade Raymonds Assassins Creed Starring Jade Raymond by now?

I'm sure she's a nice lass and all, but it's getting a bit daft now.
  • the_sas_man #9 4 years ago

    That's the spirit Souljacker.

I wonder if she has a fella cos he must read this stuff and get dam pissed off.

  • hula hoops #10 4 years ago

Lesson to learn for other publishers ... hire a pretty gal to do your PR, of course being able to make good speeches about a georgous game will help as well, but not compulsory.
  • the_sas_man #11 4 years ago

She does actually have a lot of class. I mean, if you download the recent video of her in HD - she is naturally stunning girl.

Now imagine her wearing the kind of clothes that girls wear down clubs, add a bit of alcohol and you have one hot fox.

  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #17 4 years ago

Goes without saying that she is lovely, at least in my book. Was quite surprised recently when lots of people seemed very excited about Assassin's Creed, as I had previously thought it looked like it had run out of tricks.

Pop me down as interested, then, in both.

It's a good thing there can't be any mention of Assassin's Creed without mentioning Jade Raymond and having every pubescent gamer make comments about how hot she is.

Wait, it isn't. Thanks for making the stereotype a reality, eurogamer and every single other website that mentions Jade Raymond, ever.
  • crazyhorse174 #19 4 years ago

Good God, this is like when everyone was drooling over that girl off Bad Attitude or whatever it was called. You know, the show that was in CITV encouraging kids to play video games. You wouldn't get that now, would you, cos games make kids FAT! FACT! ;-)

  • lambtron #26 4 years ago

"Why isn't it renamed Jade Raymond presents Jade Raymonds Assassins Creed Starring Jade Raymond by now? "

Nah it should be Jade Raymond and her entourage of sex pests presents Assassins Creed Starring Jade Raymond (but not the sex pests obviously).

    ;)

I bet he doesn't. Its not like slavering internet kids are actually a threat.

If I were him I wouldn't be annoyed, I would feel slightly amused and mostly pitious.
  • kangarootoo #28 4 years ago

    @bdc

Calm down dude. Do you reall think she makes the calls on this sort of thing.

Publicity for the game is part of her job, and she probably gets paid pretty well for it. If the cheque was waved under my nose (or yours for that matter) I think we both know what the desision would be.

Why would Jade use a gmail account on here as opposed to a more official Ubisoft one which would probably do a better job of filtering all the dirty emails she must receive from sex-starved geeks (aka EG regulards, self included)?

    >>>*Grabs Condom*

    Don't you mean 'tissue'?

Meanwhile, this story's fair enough; if HL2 or suchlike were promoted this way for consoles, a 'Gabe and Robin will be showing off HL2 at HMV' post wouldn't raise an eyebrow (or nearly as many stalkers' erections, although it takes all sorts I suppose); it was that last big story with Raymond's visage getting shoved to the forefront like she's a tit model that was over the line. I suspect it's not actually that hard to teach the denizens of this benighted market to think of a female games producer as something other than a gimmick, but the studios and the gaming websites have to show a little maturity themselves.

Jade on Saturday: Oh my! That's him! That's the one! That slightly balding sweaty man in the crowd, wearing a Zelda t-shirt, screaming 'Jade I love you' in a high pitch tone - He's the one I've been waiting my whole life for!

    Or not.

  • rob230 #60 4 years ago

Hmmm she's ok but nothing special. The game on other hand looks much better
  • krudster #61 4 years ago

Some of the comments here are just flat out offensive, and depressing. Please tone it down, it really isn't funny.

I know Jade is eye candy, but reinforcing the negative sterotypes of gamers being a bunch of sexually frustrated males is hardly doing anyone any favours.
  • zuljin #62 4 years ago

    @foreverafternothing
"Why would Jade use a gmail account on here as opposed to a more official Ubisoft one?"

Because if she just creates a gmail account she can use it once then forget about it, as opposed to getting spam to her work account for the next ten years.

No doubt with more explicit statements than found on this thread.
  • the_sas_man #63 4 years ago

I've NEVER been modded on here before!

Either EG is getting tough...or......Krudster fancies Jade!

    THAT'S IT ISN'T IT!
  • mkreku #64 4 years ago

    Seriously though, what's more sad:

Guys who have to point out how politically correct they are and what great lives they have outside of Eurogamer's board to try to prove that they are, in fact, NOT geeks..

    or..

Guys who can joke about being geeks, secure enough in themselves that they don't think anyone will mistake them for one just because of some stupid jokes on a geek site?

I think this thread is (or was?) hilarious. Even more so if that was the real Jade :)
  • kangarootoo #65 4 years ago

    @krudster

    A valiant attempt.

I tell you what, if I thought the sort of people making the comments we have seen so far represented a majority of gamers (or even a significant minority) I would have left the business years ago.

I actually feel embarassed on behalf of some of the posters on here.
  • Grogmonkey #66 4 years ago

I would feel embarassed for some of the posters here, if I didn't keep thinking about how, despite all this assumed bravado, I suspect none of them would actually even go to the event, let alone have the balls to strike up any kind of meaningful conversation with Jade.

Still, I'm sure all the other faceless internet usernames are all thoroughly impressed with the volume of manliness that inhabits this thread.
  • optimusprym8 #67 4 years ago

yes ok but with straplines of "Jade Raymond showing it off" you're not exactly discouraging immature comments
  • the_sas_man #68 4 years ago

Guys - get a grip about what you think Gamers should behave like! You are looking at it all wrong. Its a predominantly male industry of 20 year olds who will always make comments like this about attractive girls.

Football: Down the pub with a group of mates and you make a comment about the fit girl in the crowd. Perfectly acceptable because THATS JUST WHAT MEN DO!

Strictly Come Dancing: Who here watches it for dancing or who here watches it for girls? Point proven

Nuts/Zoo: Men buy that mag because of the birds - funnily enough the same demographic of those that play games. In fact, they even have a games section in those mags for that reason.

My point is that while you may think gamers are sad geeks who should present themselves a different way, you forget that we are in fact the same males that watch strictly come dancing (or Hope on X Factor), play football and read Nuts. Gaming no longer has that image as its a widely accepted hobby (even girls accept it).

The only people who reinforce the geek stereotype image of gamers is not those that make comments about attractive ladies, but those on a pedastal who wish to beat us with the PC stick saying how inappropriate we all are! Get with the times!

  • Grogmonkey #69 4 years ago

"Guys - get a grip about what you think Gamers should behave like!"

I was leaning more towards 'what I think PEOPLE should behave like'.

Why restrict it to just one group? This 'lad' culture isn't ever going to be considered the peak of human achievement. However, a bunch of smart, computer-literate and, above all, respectful, geeks, could well be. Especially when we solve all the world's problems.
  • Garulon #70 4 years ago

Whenever I see Assasins' Creed it looks almost absurdly ambitious and fantastic, but it also looks like it needs at least another six months in the development oven to sort out the framerate and AI balancing based purely on the videos I've seen.

Of course, considering everything's been shown on 360 devkits so far and is of an uncertain age I could be completely wrong.

Interesting fact: 360 devkits, unlike any other console devkit, have the same amount of RAM as the release kits (PS3 devkits have about twice as much RAM as the retail consoles, for example) so what you see when something's on a 360 devkit is the game in a variously unfinished state plus all the debug stuff, all fitting on a standard 360. It's why 360 games tend to look better right at the end of the dev phase.
  • the_sas_man #71 4 years ago

"This 'lad' culture isn't ever going to be considered the peak of human achievement. However, a bunch of smart, computer-literate and, above all, respectful, geeks, could well be. "

No offence, but do you live in the real world?

Of course lad culture isnt considered peak achievement, but face facts, its heavily intertwined with the industry you work in It has nothing to do about being a gamer or a geek.

I'm degree educated, have a gf, watch strictly come dancing for the girls and enjoy fotball. Am I lad? I don't think so no. I go to job interview in a suit like anyone else.

Bt if I see a fit girl and I'm talking to a male board 'm gonna act like a male - hence the many other similar comments on here.

Seriosuly, get off you high horse and stop thinking you work in some special industry where men aged 20ish should act totally different to other industries like football. Hate to break it to ya, but we are all the same people.
  • Garulon #72 4 years ago

"Seriosuly, get off you high horse "

Treating a producer of a game who happens to be a woman the same as a bloke producer of a game is a high horse now? Here was me thinking it was basic human decency. Tsk, how stupid of me :(
  • SleepyMagpie #73 4 years ago

There's nothing wrong with commenting on a fine girl, but there is language, and the use of it.

What goes and does not go on a public forum was definitely crossed by some of the above posters. Why does appreciating a nice girl have to degenerate into something that sounds like it comes from a really nasty chatline or stripsite, and actually disses the female in question? Is it because you can't live with the fact that you can't have her, or someone as nice as her?

Live with it, taking disappointments in your stride is what being grown up man is about, and being civil towards the ladies is another.

A sad fact tho, like some other posters have noted, is that Eurogamer itself shouldn't get on it's high horse really, as it's straplines sometimes tend to fall towards The Sun's low standards, and invite reckless posting.

Jade; do your thing, you seem to do it well, AND you've got a GREAT smile, but please make sure the game is good too, this one isn't really convinced it's all that it's made up to be.

  • the_sas_man #74 4 years ago

"Treating a producer of a game who happens to be a woman the same as a bloke producer of a game is a high horse now? Here was me thinking it was basic human decency."

What on earth...it was aimed at YOU...not Jade.

Your using the PC stick to try and put the majority people who made comments on here look like a group of sex starved geek ridden spotty nosed teenagers. Which is why I said you should get off your high horse, because you'd realise that the viewers of this site are almost certainly the same viewers that watch programs like MOTD, X Factor, go uni, have gf (probably married) and read Nuts.

My point is that you are trying to seperate the demographic of the games industry - which only reinforces the geeky stereotype when really, gamers are the same guys who do the things that other normal people do. Times have moved on so accept it.

By all means ban people who are racist, make truly offensive comments - but all that was in here was lad talk. Go to the BBC 606 forums. Its the same comments as on here and even the BBC don't mod it!
  • mkreku #75 4 years ago

I think Jade is a breath of fresh air, especially for us here in Sweden where we have to put up with Susanne Möller, an incompetent "games expert" with bad language and no deeper knowledge of the gaming scene. Susanne is a classic example of a woman involved in gaming just because she is.. a woman. And playing WoW for 8 hours a day doesn't automatically make you a games expert!!

Jade seems to have her head screwed on right and she's very pleasing to the eye. I also think highly enough of her to think she's able to look beyond the prepubescent comments and appreciate the (somewhat backhanded) compliments she's getting. We do appreciate her though, both for her professional capabilities as well as her obvious beauty.

I move and work in an academic world where this kind of juvenile humour is missing from my normal life. I honestly don't think any harm is done by joking around like in the good old army days, so to me this thread has been a blast.
  • the_sas_man #76 4 years ago

    @Mkreku

You hit the nail on the head my friend. Its only been backhanded comments, many of which while admittedly a little juvenile, but i'm sure she would be flattered by!

I wouldnt really call anything in here majorly offensive.

And EG are as much to blame with their straplines. Dirty fuckers!
  • lucasmax #77 4 years ago

I can understand UbiMont's marketing tactic, afterall PoPSoT didnt sell aswel as it should have back in the day.

Having Jade as the "poster child" has already seemed to do its job, and im sure Jade et al are well aware of the connotations of this. And after all it is better that we discuss the merits of Jade, than us all discussing potential screen tearing and AI.

As the saying goes, boys will be boys and businesses will be businesses
  • the_sas_man #78 4 years ago

This thread is so symbolic of Britney Spears career.

At first you wanted to shaft her - but now you'd feel bad for doing so (but still would)
  • mkreku #79 4 years ago

the_sas_man: I wouldnt really call anything in here majorly offensive.

  • zuljin #80 4 years ago

    @the_sas_man
"...when really, gamers are the same guys who do the things that other normal people do."

It is exactly this "were men and only havin a bit of a laugh" attitude which keeps this industry so male dominated. Gamers are the same PEOPLE that do things other normal people do.

The only gf I ever had that loved games never played online because comments would be made very similar to ones made in this thread. We're ardent gamers, surely we'd all love to share our hobby with more people?

This isn't a nuts / the Sun forum, we're not all here because we like girls, we're all here because we like games.
  • mkreku #81 4 years ago

    ]http://www.jade -raymond.com/index.php
    [/link]

And apparently fans of Jade belong to the Jade Empire.. You learn something new every day.
  • the_sas_man #82 4 years ago

"It is exactly this "were men and only havin a bit of a laugh" attitude which keeps this industry so male dominated."

Its male dominated because its technology based. You can be liberal all you want but lets be honest - men like girls, technology, sport

Women like fashion, men, celebs etc

While there are cross overs of each (men liking celebs stories or women liking technology) the fact iof the matter is we have our own tastes. Your right, we come on here to talk about games as its a games site, but the same can be said in that we go down the pub to watch and talk about football, or we go and watch Strictly Come Dancing for the dancing,or we go to the BBC website to get a news fix....but at the end of the day, if an attractive lady appears on any of these mediums us men are gonna make a crack at it. Its only to be expected, and trying to be all PC about it and making gamers a different breed of men is ridiculous. Its not living in the real world. Its living in cloud cuckoo land.

My gf reads Nuts btw - why? Because she hates celeb girly mags and finds the men ones more humorous. So just let us men be men and the rest of you can go off and campaign with the Lib Dem party.
  • the_sas_man #83 4 years ago

    <a href="http://www.jade -raymond.com/index.php"

    LOL

Exactly my point. I also watch The Real Hustle. Great show, but boy is that girl hot! She also has a fan site. Does that mean that all those men are not acting correctly and should only talk about the show?! pfff - whatever!

    Here is the site btw:

"Its male dominated because its technology based. You can be liberal all you want but lets be honest - men like girls, technology, sport. Women like fashion, men, celebs etc"

I'm not saying theres anything against that, I'm saying don't lump us all together by stereotyping. The point is that I've managed to convert a fair number of girls because they were under the impression "its a boys thing".

"My gf reads Nuts btw - why? "
Again, I don't. But I do read the celeb gossip mags my flatmate brings home. And I used to read a lot of gay magazines one of my girlfriends used to bring home because she liked seeing gay guys kiss.

The point is that everything you've mentioned (and me for that matter too), is purely anecdotal. Your experience and my experience. To make sweeping statements like "men like sport and women like fashion" is pure rubbish.

Just a sidenote - personally I do think Nuts mag is wrong. By all means buy porn, call a spade a spade, but Nuts tries to go for the adolescent market by including as much flesh as possible whilst avoiding any rating. Personally I don't like that aspect of it, but again, I have nothing against adults reading it.
  • Garulon #85 4 years ago

""Its male dominated because its technology based. You can be liberal all you want but lets be honest - men like girls, technology, sport. Women like fashion, men, celebs etc" "

She'll probably never be back here, if that even was her. I have no idea why I assume it was..
  • kangarootoo #87 4 years ago

    @the_sas_man

"Strictly Come Dancing: Who here watches it for dancing or who here watches it for girls? Point proven"

Well it might prove something if anyone here actually watched it. You actually watch that show?
  • kangarootoo #88 4 years ago

    @the_sas_man

Reading your other comments, your justification for some of the comment son here (not sure if you are trying to justfy ALL the comment, as some were just straight out offensive) seems to be "come on people, everyone does it, so its ok".

That just doesn't wash, and it never has. If the sorts of comments in here did reflect all gamers accurately (and I don't believe they do) I'd be f*cking gutted.

Don't get me wrong, I like hot women as much as anyone else who is so inclined, but there is a difference between saying "yeah, she is really cute" and some of the more clinical comments on here.

I mean holy crap, regardless of how blokey blokes really are, do the writer of such stuff not care about how it makes them look?

Writing something that actively makes you (not you personally, I'm speaking generally) look either stupid or bigoted or both is not something to be pleased about, yet for some it is almost a hobby. That is what I have never understood about that kind of trolling, that someone would actually gain something from thinking "excellent, one more person in the world that thinks I'm a c*nt".

Does that not just seem bizarre to anyone else? It seems to suggest some really deep rooted self estemm issues to me. I'm off on a bit of tangent here, but some of it is still relevant. If anyone writing an offensive comment on here is doing so to be "one of the guys".... well, I just find that more than a bit pityful. Christ, the day that I ever sink so low as to need the affirmation of the immature division of an internet forum to feel good about myself is the day I step off a chair with a belt around my neck.

I'm probably losing my original point somewhat here :) Other have made the same point, which is that gamers are (or should be) just people. If gamers are distinct from everyone else by the fact that they can't see a pretty girl without turning into the verbal equivalent of ted Bundy, what the hell does that say about gamers.

I like my job, but everytime something like this thread happens, I feel a bit self conscious. As if someone is going to turn around and say "these drooling prepubescent idiots are your audience are they?" and I will just have to mumble and look at my shoes.

Why is the word 'stereotype' such a taboo?

So are you all going to say that technology interest is split 50-50 down the middle in regards to gender and those that read the celeb news is split 50 - 50 down the middle? I say the 'stereotype' because its true! I never said ALL men or ALL girls....but the MAJORITY of men like football or the MAJORITY of girls like celeb news.

I bet more women like pink than men *oh my god kill sas man for being a steroetype* Its a stupid counter-argument in any case as it doesnt actually prove or disprorve anything.

As to your point kangerrootoo. Yes, maybe the comments on here may be offensive (personally I didnt see anything wrong with many of them but one mans opinion is another persons fact I guess)...but my point (and what my whole argument stems around) is that this is NOT a gamer thing which people (those who seem to work in the industry) like to tag it as.

My point is, and has been all laong, that the comments stem from the demographic of those that likes videogames (very much different to that of 10 years ago). Those ten year olds of ten years ago who were in a niche market are now 20 years old, at uni, playing in football teams and sleeping with girls. The audience has changed so much that gaming in no longer that niche market, but is in fact another acceptable hobby, just like playing football or going down the pub. Claiming these comments are embarrassing to the games industry is simply reinforcing stereotypes of the geeky gamers.

Those that wish to make the point on the basis of it being bad for gaming are the only ones who are reinforcing the bad image, because really all you got here is a bunch of guys messing about on a forum talking about a hot chick - just like you get on the 606 BBC forums, or the Mens Health forums, or Facebook etc. Its not a gaming thing...as some of you guys seem to be inducing. It's a man thing.

Now you're just putting words in peoples mouths. Noone here said that. Yes it is true that in general stereotypes arise for a reason, just like a cliche becomes cliche for a reason. Which in turn is now a cliche. Hmm. Point is you are reenforcing this stereotype that only men like games, which in turn puts women off.

"Claiming these comments are embarrassing to the games industry is simply reinforcing stereotypes of the geeky gamers. "

No it is reenforcing that the video games industry is now one which is comprised of adults, and that maybe on occasion - we should act like them too. You and Mkreku both admitted the comments were juvenile.

I strawman you :) Edit: plus what zuljin said.

"is that this is NOT a gamer thing which people (those who seem to work in the industry) like to tag it as."

Well maybe its an internet forum thing then. It still blows, AND misrepresents the majority of gamers (who probably don't even know this website exists).

    "most overrated girl eva"

No, that would be Margaret Thatcher.

I'd like to meet Jade and ask why the game looks nowhere near as good as those early trailers.
  • captainrentboy #94 4 years ago

If it's any consolation, I wouldn't really bum her to death, infact even talking to an attractive girl results in me pissing and shitting myself simultaneously, with fear.
Now that's the actions of a stereotypical geeky gamer.
And some of you need to lighten up slightly, I'm pretty sure no-one on here is a humongous rapist, it's just perverted light hearted fun.

I wonder if anyone here ever went to that HMV showing of Jade, er, I mean, Assassin's Creed..?
