The screenshots look pretty cool for DS!

Hope you can skip the dialog into if you restart a mission.

Not sure this is going to work really. The combat and movement required a considerable amount of co-ordination controller wise and I just don't see how this is going to be translated onto the DS. Still, I may be pleasantly surprised.

Wow. Those graphics are really good for a DS game.

Hopefully this will be cool, although I'm still playing Phantom Hourglass so I probably won't have the time ;-)

    February release?

Forgive my scepticism, but there seems little to no chance that this won't be a cack cash-in.

"The combat and movement required a considerable amount of co-ordination controller wise"

I tend to divide these things into two categories, the first is a straight port, the other is a "re-imagining" (I had a better word, but I can't remember what it is).

The first is literal ly making a game run on another platform, and is a technical task more than anything else.

The second requires redesign work if its going to result in a decent game at the end of the process, and that appears to be what is going on here.

I suppose the point I am waffling my way towards is I tend to assume that a good studio will make the right descisions when it comes to shifting a game onto a platform that does not initially appear to be suited to the task.

"Forgive my scepticism, but there seems little to no chance that this won't be a cack cash-in."

They have clearly been working on this for a while, so there may be nothing "quick" about it.

    Looks good.

But I still think this could go either way. I'll be waiting for the reviews to start coming in.

At least it's not a lazy 2D port like the mobile version.
Could turn out good. I wonder if they'll do anything to address the criticism about the gameplay's repetitive nature?

"I wonder if they'll do anything to address the criticism about the gameplay's repetitive nature?!"

My guess would be no. Its the core progress stuff like "do some tasks, unlock this, then do this" that usually stays intact in conversions like this (that was the word I was looking for earlier, I make a distinction between "ports" and "conversions"), whereas control systems tend to undergo the necessary changes to support the change of platform.

    Looking forward to it!

It does look pretty good and it's interesting that they have gone with full 3D backgrounds. I wonder if a Ninja Gaiden DS approach would work?

Hope they include a button to skip all the boring bits.

Oh yeah the off button \o/

I'm liking the look of this more and more. I touch myself.

Is this the worst DS game in the making? possibly.
The only thing that stopped me throwing the x360 version out of the window was the fact that the graphics were stunning.
Even then I still traded it in after half a week.
On a DS what has it got going for it?
  • Skywise #17 4 years ago

the graphics (seriously, this is one of the nicest looking DS games)
  • varsas #18 4 years ago

Was it really that bad or does everyone these days prefer very succinct story telling without any depth or background?
  • kangarootoo #19 4 years ago

    @varsas

I think the flawed genius monkiker is appropriate. You can't please everyone, and I myself gave up before the end out of annoyance. There were times it drove me nuts and there were times it amazed me. Rent it at least and make up your own mind; don't trust people on here (including me).

Looking at this game makes me think what more the 64 could have done! I loved that machine!
