Ass Creed PS3 patched

Should stop freezes.

Ubisoft has released a patch for the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed in order to tackle some of its crippling bugs.

You can get your hands on it right now, and it should prevent niggles like random loading stalls and game freezes.

However, not everybody over on the official forums seemed to be content, with many reporting the same problems as before.

Unfortunately Ubisoft was unable to offer any further comment over plans for future fixes.

Assassin's Creed was released in November and turned out to be a bit of a one-trick pony, although it happily went on to trounce opposition like Mario Galaxy in sales.

Pop over to our Assassin's Creed gamepage for our review and comparison with the 360 version.

Has the ability to patch encouraged publishers to release games before they are strictly ready? Discuss.

...turned out to be a bit of a one-trick pony

    First, the low review score
    Then calling it Ass Creed
    Then saying it's a one-trick pony.

I sense a lot of hostility from EG onto this game. I wonder why.
  • L42yB #5 4 years ago

    @Triggerhappytel - Yes.

I'm just glad I have the 360 version of this, cos I haven't had any troubles :)

What's with all the hatred toward Assassin's Creed? :?

It's a good game in my opinion, perhaps not as amazing as it was hyped up to be but I'm enjoying playing it despite the repetition in the missions. The story, intriguing setting and lovely graphics have sucked me in and help make it feel different from anything else out there, even though it does seem an awful lot like Crackdown in terms of game structure (AC is the better game though IMO)

Ass Creed is just an abbreviation to get the title to fit. No hostility in it from this end.

It got a 7 because it was a one-trick pony. Ours was by no means the lowest score around, either - I've just read X360 magazine that gave it 5.

We're not being unfair to it, just honest.

  • Darren #8 4 years ago

    Didn't gamesTM give it 4/10?
  • Triggerhappytel #9 4 years ago

    @ Darren

Yes, but I think pretty much everyone agrees that a 4/10 is unfairly harsh.
  • BBIAJ #10 4 years ago

    Yes, they did.

Saying it was up there with ROTR for most hyped and disappointing release.
  • Olemak #11 4 years ago

Wouldn't simply either "Assassin" or "Creed" be a better abbreviation than the horrendous "Ass Creed"? You could even feed you pun engine with that: Assasin's Patch, Creedy publisher rushed game etc...
  • hula hoops #12 4 years ago

Ok, now lets see the other news you have here ... "World War II still rich with potential - Pitchford(News)" ... gosh that's even longer than "Assassin Creed PS3 patched" ... if you get what I mean.

Now, since when an EG score 7/10 is a one trick-pony.

You have always say: 7 is better than average (which is 5).

So does that mean a one-trick pony game is a better than average game now?
  • statix101 #13 4 years ago

LOL...these new consoles really are just PC's in a shiny box.

There was a time when we were told that online features WOULDNT lead to rushed bug ridden games, like what was happening on the PC games scene.

    4/10 geez

    It isn't THAT bad.

They we're probably playing Mass Effect and couldn't be bothered.
  • BBIAJ #17 4 years ago

They claim to be just telling it like it really is, apparently...

The PS3 really is turning out to be a bit of a wet fart games-wise tbh...shame...
  • Zanuah #21 4 years ago

Well a little late since I already finished the game... :p

In any case hopefully they'll continue with the series... Should be interesting to see where it goes next.
  • T4RG4 #22 4 years ago

Suspect it would have got slighter better scores on average had it not been hyped to death. I 'canna be bothered to play it unless someone wants to send me their 360 version? Failing that I could always trawl the streets of London for a copy + a PS3 that has been thrown to the kerb. Joke.

Nobody would throw the game out.

I cannot wait for the new Xbox to come out. Microsoft better get it right this time.!!!!

AC is a great game - best played for no longer than one hour at a time. If played that way it is an 8/10.

If played for longer than that the pleasure starts to tail off quite quickly and a 7/10 is very fair.

For me, it is the tantalising look into the future that it represents.

In addition I think some of the things they could have clearly incorporated technically, were withheld to stop any chance of AC cannibalising the Splinter Cell market.

Surely that depends how good the one-trick is?
  • asphaltcowboy #26 4 years ago

PLEASE STOP CALLING IT ASS CREED!

If you are so desperate to save on key presses, simply copy and paste the first ass and add "sins" on the end!

EDIT: btw, I think it's a great game, easily worth an 8! Calling it a one-trick pony is INCREDIBLY harsh.

Massively disappointed with the game and proven no immersion due to stupidity on behalf of Ubi on this day and age not to include SUBTITLES.

Valve, Bungie, Naughty Dog and so on all provide the option. Mass Effect would be pile of manure rather than enjoyable sci fiction yarn if its came as its does with Ubi Soft with no subtitles (Some would say ME is shit anyway, but many reviews doesnt agree AND its NOT the point of this post).

If they gonna do another update, then they should repair that one or they get assassin come round for the blantant discrimination!
  • Artemus #29 4 years ago

Too late now. I've already completed it with the bloody freezes!
  • BadBoyBonner #30 4 years ago

Personally I hate subtitles appearing Karaoke style over the image; more so when games are starting to look this good.

However, I do feel that ALL games should include subtitles as an option – with the default setting to off – everyone’s a winner.
  • oreillymj #31 4 years ago

I'm guessing that Sony is prepared to allow games out bugs an' all at the moment, just to get boxes on shelves and counter the "no software" comment that's been repeated in the popular press.

Hopefully the 2nd gen titles for PS3 will have the on-line portion of gameplay sorted.

COD4's offline missions are perfect, no issues, but online is a bit of a pain.
Trying to set up a private game seems to be impossible.
  • Darren #32 4 years ago

@GamesConnoisseur - I have hearing problems so I was disappointed to find that Assassin's Creed had no subtititles as I struggle to hear the dialogue and only half know what the story's about because of the Mission Objectives. I can't believe that a big release like this lacks subtitles when games like Mass Effect and BioShock had them (the latter game's subtitles were way out of sync with the dialogue though).
  • Waldo #33 4 years ago

    Patches for console games?
  • menage #34 4 years ago

"BioShock had them (the latter game's subtitles were way out of sync with the dialogue though)."

Yeah, I thought that was rather funny. Probaly the best graphics and polish on 360 and they couldn't sync the subs. WTF? The sub guy should be fired.
  • GamesConnoisseur #35 4 years ago

I agree re BioShock being out of sync, its was obvious and can be jarring but better to understand what going on than not at all. With Assassin Creed I havent bother to go further than the tutorial so far. So digusted and pondered sending the game back to Ubi Soft with letter to show my ire.

BadBoyBonner: Agreed with your point that subtitles being forced on everyone is not good, but to be available as an option is important. Look at all the DVD/BR/HD DVD aside from occasional films or porn (no need!) subtitles is always available.

"Look at all the DVD/BR/HD DVD aside from occasional films or porn..."

I agree. Porn should always have dodgy dubbing.

Does anyone have experience of whether this works? As I am considering buying it at Christmas.

40 comments in and all we have is criticism on the topic title's abbreviation and the usual retarded console fanboi posts. The official forums is no better.
  • Penguinzoot #38 4 years ago

    Gaol,

Well, there are still reports on Ubi's official AC website that PS3 users are still experiencing problems after the patch, so maybe wait a little longer until the dust settles a bit may be the best advice.

Knowing the juvenile demographics of Eurogamer you have to expect that abbreviating it "Ass Creed" is a bad idea. Atop that, like adding Nitro to glycerin, you have to add "PS3" to the mix which excites Eurogamer's Xbot fanboy base.
  • el_pollo_diablo #41 4 years ago

I'm rather enjoying this game. The fact that many others are poo-pooing it affects my enjoyment of it not one iota.

Well as a non-game developer I can somewhat sympathize with the developers of modern games. If you look at another project with millions of lines of code like mozilla, they have had 400.000 issues reported to them and it is considered a stable and well maintained software product.

Studies have been done that indicate that commercial quality code ship with about 1 to 7 bugs per 1000 lines of code. So a very good project with a million lines of code will contain at least 1000 bugs. Not every bug will crash a software product but NO matter how much you test you will ship a product with bugs in it. Testing will eliminate the most obvious ones.

The space shuttle software is the most rigoriously tested in the world and it ships with less than 1 bug per 10000 lines of code. Internet updates are here to stay....
  • GamesConnoisseur #43 4 years ago

    AgentWhite

So PS3 and X360 is safe as able to update and resolve the worse software bugs that missed quality testing, but the Wii would be shafted innit due to its non update framework aside from main operating system?

Nintendo must by necessity be even more rigourous and the pressures on devs would benefit us all.
  • BadBoyBonner #44 4 years ago

Sounds like NASA should get Nintendo to write the Shuttles software to work from a Snes Cartridge.
  • samadriel #45 4 years ago

    No more freezing my Ass!
  • AgentWhite #46 4 years ago

I hold nintendo quality in high regard, it's not that. But people tend to wear rose-colored glasses regarding nintendo. One thing comes imideatly to mind:

until PS3 makes a base of consoles worth having as a first platform
all we are gonna see are cripled x360 ports to ps3 and every PS3 owner including me knows that.
the moment this changes and see actual games created from scratch for ps3 even great games like Assasins Creed will lose points.
  • seasidebaz #48 4 years ago
