Asheron's Call gets 100th update News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

27 August, 2008

Turbine has released the one hundredth content update for its long-running fantasy MMO, Asheron's Call.

This remarkable feat comes nearly nine years after the game's release in late 1999. Asheron's Call was originally published by Microsoft, but now Turbine publishes it itself, as it does with its current hit Lord of the Rings Online.

The update introduces Societies, a new faction system offering fresh quests and rewards; two new player-controllable towns to fight over in player-versus-player combat; new tiers of loot and spells, and some new areas to adventure in.

Asheron's Call, we salute you. You might not boast fifteen full expansion packs, like your contemporary, EverQuest; but it's still an impressive run.

Ahh AC, my first MMO. Kinda miss you, but it was so damn boring. Grind grind grind, no quests, no abilities, nothing.

Meh.

I played for seven years. And while I enjoyed it at the time, I don't feel much of a tug to give it another spin now. Good on them though.
