2003: Year of the Dragoon

Sega slips Panzer Dragoon Orta

Source - press release

"Sega has decided to delay the release of Panzer Dragoon Orta in order to continue adding innovative features and content to the game," Sega's Mike Fischer warbles in an incredibly succinct press release from Infogrames this morning. The "ship date" for the game has changed from November 2002 to January 2003 - presumably in the US, rather than over here, mind. As much as we dislike financially motivated slipping of games, we aren't going to complain if it means we get more of what we want, so go ahead Sega, take all the time you want. Considering the fact that it's an on-rails shooter, where the player mainly control the direction of firing, it's quite an interesting slip-up. Maybe this one won't go Turok and they want to spice up the gameplay a bit.

Shoot-em'ups are lovely, though. Just got my import Ikaruga, and it's heavenly. Godly.

And just got my first first post also! Joy!

It may be on-rails shooter, but it's still the most interesting game for Xbox. I never played the original on Saturn or PC though...

Duc, the original Saturn/PC game will be an unlockable secret in Orta.

    moving on..

Ikaruga is a seriously sweet game Viktor. Hopefully it's getting upgraded instead of porter to the GC because i'll spend the money for an even better version. As for Panzer Dragoon delay-- that isn't leaving a whole lot for this christmas. Albeit it won't matter in console sales because Microsoft will just market the hell out of Xbox anyway, but both Brute Force and now this have been delayed into 2003. Perhaps they're wanting gamers to focus on Xbox Live's release here in the U.S.? 2003 for Xbox looks very very bright, with it's biggest games coming out. Project Ego, Brute Force, Panzer Dragoon, Star Wars KOTOR, Star Wars Galaxies, B.C., Halo 2, and more great games.

I also like the fact that Microsoft is so willing to delay it's games to release quality. That's where they differ from Sony and are similiar to Nintendo. You can blame this delay on Sega but you just know it's got a lot to do with Microsoft... they wouldn't let a game this big miss the Christmas season by just one month if they didn't have a good reason too.

Morrowind. That's a testament to a LONG development time. But it's brilliant. My game of the year, though Battlefield 1942 comes close with its fun factor.
