ArmA expands

Queen's Gambit revealed.

505 Games has announced a new expansion pack for military shooter ArmA: Armed Assault.

Queen's Gambit will introduce two new story and multiplayer missions, and be available in the third quarter of the year.

The Rahmadi Conflict is billed as the "true conclusion to the original ArmA" story, and takes place on Rahmadi and Porto Islands. Royal Flush, on the other hand, happens 18 months later - as a bunch of highly trained mercenaries join the army in a top-secret and sensitive government job. But all is not as it seems...

Urban Raid is the first of the new multiplayer missions, and is designed for you and five other people to work through co-operatively. Or you can simply commando-roll into the Battle of Porto as one of 40 possible players and try to hold a captured waypoint.

A new patch for the game was released last week to address some technical issues and finally add support for North Americans and Europeans to play together. The update as well as plenty of other information is available over on the official website.

ArmA: Armed Assault is a tactical war game from Bohemia Interactive. It's the unofficial sequel to the rather splendid Operation Flashpoint, a name the developer no longer holds the rights to, obviously.

The game was released at the beginning of the year and earned considerable cheers from the gaming industry. Head over to our ArmA review to find out more.

    gizmo speaks the truth.

Had to give up on this game after only a few days, most buggy game I've played in years.

I so wanted ArmA to be good. How's the patching status presently? Are the helis actually flyable yet? Do BMPs still enter orbit when they hit rocks? Is it, you know, fun yet?

I gave up on this after the 2nd mission where you have to sneak into a camp and destroy about 6 armoured vehicles, armed only with one set of explosives. Stupid, stupid mission.

Performed very badly too, haven't tried 1.08 yet though. Should I?

Wyrm, if that's the mission at night where you arrive by boat or somesuch, just take an AT launcher at gear selection and blast them from the hill. Easy. You probably won't be able to do the secondary/bonus objective, but it gets the job done.

Glad to hear an expansion's on the way. Really enjoyed ArmA. The background plot was pretty interesting, for a game such as this anyways.

This is the only game I've had to headshot one of my squady in order to proceed.

    Patched up to scratch then?

I tried the AT launcher, as soon as you fire one shot the whole camp goes nuts and I get shot to pieces within seconds. Odd considering I'm laid prone in long grass on a hill in pitch black darkness :/

The flash from a rocket is quite noticeable in the dark :)

Yeah, sometimes it can come down to luck. Nuke the APC with all the soldiers stood around it first, hoping they'll die in the explosion.
It's worth getting done, because there are some great missions after it.
