BG&E2 inspired by September 11 News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

3 April, 2009

Beyond Good & Evil creator Michel Ancel has revealed his inspiration for the game's sequel.

"It was a mix of a lot of experiences," Ancel told All-Gamers (translated by our friends at Eurogamer France). "It was a phantasm to create an adventure game, a universe too. It was the game I wanted to create for a long time.

"There were a lot of inspirations: the Miyazaki universe, my own inspirations, politics and the media; the theme of September 11 - the CNN show with army messages and the fear climate. And it was a mix from other universes.

"It's different from Zelda and other titles like that; very good games but they are out of time. [BG&E] was issued of the actuality," he said, like a poet.

Ancel went on to reveal that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be inspired "completely" in the same way, and pick-up almost exactly where the original left off.

"Yes," he said, when asked if BG&E2 will be a direct sequel. "But it is better to discover that when you play, ha ha! But it is clear we want to continue the story - we won't create characters, story. The story continues and we'll react on important events of the first.

"Players who like the first should like the second," he added.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has no confirmed platforms nor date. Ancel has said the sequel will take longer, but simply because he, using the new hardware, will finally be able to realise his original creative vision for the IP.

Inspired by 9/11 and political climate?

Half the stuff put out there is me thinks in one way or another. Not really something to shout about.

Throw the first game in to a special edition boxset for the second too, go on you know you want to. I want to play it again right before starting this one but without the hassle of setting up my old console.

Oh God, I starting to worry here but I'm still giving the benefit of the doubt, for now

@Crofto
what does that even mean? If people who played the first enjoyed it and where idiots would that mean can't enjoy the next one? If the hated but where idiots they can or can't?

IF(Player = Idiot OR Player != Idiot) AND (Player liked BG&E OR Player hated BG&E)
THEN (Player Not Play BG&E2) OR (Player Play BG&E2)

Simple and I've confused myself

On an article related note, the more I think about the way in which the media was handled in the original and the way in which the DomZ where protrayed I can see this kinda making sense.

The DomZ where the alien/terrorist aggressors and Jade etc where the forces of good/collaition, hell any DomZ attack during the first game could be interpeted as a terrorist attack on a city (the did attack with missles and bomb the crap out of hilliya)

Crofto speaks to himself, which I sometimes do too.

Anyway, I guess he meant something like: Sequels suck. The good old days. Pseudo - Trendy. Knowledge + Me. GTA blows.

Do you think Beyond Good & Evil 2 will actually go beyond good and evil this time? Bad aliens kidnap people, good guys stop them.

How morally ambiguous.

Beyond good and Evil wasn't about moral ambiguouty. Jade was a journalist, as you take pictures you uncover the conspiracy about the alien invasions. Beyond good and evil lies the truth. It wasn't aiming to be a complicated story driven game, it was a fun adventure game with an interesting take on the genre.

Too bad it's not inspired by saucy French films, and you as Jade lie back and pleasure yourself with your Dai'jo stick.
