America's Army US-only News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

13 June, 2007

Ubisoft has told Eurogamer that the new America's Army game won't be coming to Europe.

Instead, the Xbox 360 game will be heading exclusively to the US in September. It's a similar situation to last year, when the PS2 Army game, Rise of a Soldier, quietly disappeared from the European release schedule.

The reasons it won't be released here are unclear, and Ubisoft didn't want to comment on our wild theories. But we expect it being an American Army-sponsored title has a lot to do with it. You know, at a guess. Perhaps we'll be treated to a version from The British Army to make up for it, it could go hand-in-hand with all those enthusiastic adverts on the telly.

America's Army: True Soldier is in development at GRAW multiplayer brain-box Red Storm. It's going to be a team-play-focused affair with plenty of tactical options to keep you busy. It'll also feature experience points to customise and improve your character with, as well as Honor points to reward respectful and helpful online play.

All very fancy, then, and with credible talent behind it. Get a load of how it's shaping up in a new trailer expected to go live any minute on Eurogamer TV.

What they should do is have Americans playing American Army as the US troops, and all us Europeans in control of the insurgents.

Why not make a game about being in the Army before going to war. You know just boot camp and taking crap from the people in charge. It'd be fun.

Maybe its because people in Europe will be less interested in playing a game where you have to kill your own troops as thats what the american army do pretty well.

Makes sence that the "game" will only be out in US on consoles... it's a US recruitment tool, so pretty useless in Europe.

all the usual EG peep bullshit aside, i for one am rather dissapointed... was looking forward to this.

however the orginal americas army game was released over here, so why do this now? i can't believe they would let down such a large market, certainly for GRAW anyway... very odd.

EDIT: I crap at english

ha, funny you should ask, as i imagine my marriage to an american is the reason behind my loss of command in what was formely a tight grasp of the english language.

"Why not make a game about being in the Army before going to war"

What, you mean like all the adverts we see on TV about joining the army? They always seem to be full of epople running about, getting girls and windsurfing.

I can't recall the last time I saw a TV ad showing your friend bleeding out because budget cuts meant he didn't have a ballistic vest, or a cinema trailer explaining that friendly fire is just "one of those things".

Everytime a soldier gets shot in game there should be a 10 minute break for a stupid over-exaggerated news report and parents moaning that war is wrong.

Their child only joined the army to have fun and get paid, obviously didn't think their life might be at risk or anything.

GJ on the misquote. I suggested Private Pyle: The Game in response to someone else's comment about "Why not make a game about being in the Army before going to war", so on the subject of following who said what, and in the spirit of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:

"Who said that? Who the fuck said that? Who's the slimy little communist shit, twinkle-toed cocksucker down here who just signed his own death warrant? Nobody, huh? The fairy fucking godmother said it. Out-fucking-standing. I will PT you all until you fucking die. I'll PT you until your assholes are sucking buttermilk"

LOL Bodybuilder, I was going to say the exact same thing. I suppose the Americans brainwashing only works on their own kind.

No wonder the world hates them so much.

I suppose they've got to change the game so that in the British one you get your body armour taken away and the radios don't work properly.

Yeah thats right, there's no diversion or brainwashing going on in this country when it comes to armed forces recruitment, oh no sir. Isn't it great that we are so superior.

don't forget the well-known bit where you only get about a third of the ammunition you should have and your gun jams repeatedly and goes off when dropped.

Until now, every Ubisoft game on Xbox360 was region free, this one will probably be too. So if anyone really wants to play it, they can just import it.

You seem to be forgetting why this GAME was actually created in the first place.

"Clearly some people think that game experiences translate into real life tendencies"

Clearly the US military think so, which is why they funded the title in the first place.
