American McGee's Alice out in 2011

Spooky teaser site launched.

The follow-up to American McGee's Alice has been graced with a 2011 release date in a new teaser trailer.

The creepy stop-motion-animation trailer, which can be seen at the new Return of Alice website, ends with the words "Back through the looking glass... 2011."

The game, being made for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, was announced earlier this year. It's a sequel to - or, possibly, a remake of - the dark interpretation of the classic Lewis Carroll tale which McGee made for PC back in 2000. EA will publish again.

Otherwise, the trailer offers few hints, beyond a glimpse of McGee's frightening, bony vision of the Cheshire Cat.

I thought american mcgee was a low budget light gun game found in places like yarmouth and camber sands. Wonder what it is i'm thinking of.

    @TheDudesRug

You're thinking of Quickdraw McGee, at least i think it was Quickdraw, with the live video actors and ropey shot detection! Alice was quite good visually when it came out but i found it a bit bland IIRC. Here's hoping this is better as the art direction is spot on.

    Oh, yay, another Quake reskin.

BUT IT'S EDGY AND HE HAS A FUNNY NAME.

I thought TheDudesRug is thinking of Mad Dog McCree.

I really liked the idea of Alice back then, but never came around to play it. Will prolly get the 360 version when it comes out, but 2011 is still quite far off, isn't it?

I'm very much looking forward to this indeed. Loved the original, even if it was a Quake reskin.

Playing on the Burton release, possibly?

Alice was not a "Quake reskin" by any means. Out of all Quake 3 engine based games out there, Alice is the one that resembles Quake the least, both artistically and in terms of gameplay.
The original was a great game. I'm excited about this new one.

Psh. Take away the American McGee's Jaunty Doorframes and what did you get?

John Romero shouting obscenities at you, that's what.

Definatly playing on Burtons film, but can't blame anybody, might as well drum up some publicity. Loved the first game, controls a bit ropey, but the art design was amazing. This must be a remake, as they covered all the events from the book so to speak. There are no charecters left to put in as a sequel.

I just started playing the original three weeks ago or so. Controls are a bit funny and the combat is really, really weak, but luckily not all that important to the gameplay. The design and voice acting (actually more what they are saying) is very good though.

So when is EA going to resurrect Undying? Seeing how they were launched months apart and despite meh sales achieved cult status...

I love the way American McGee gets treated with all this creative reverence for coming up with the idea of making a 'dark' version of Alice in Wonderland. Yeh, it must have taken hours to come up with that one...'hey its a quite creepy dreamlike story already, lets add a bit of blood, some knives and make the colour scale 2 notches darker and it'll be LIKE A WHOLE NEW WORLD'. Not to mention that the original game was a classic example of style of substance.

And as if that wasn't good enough, you are now remaking the remake. Good one American, you fucking hack. Remind us of exactly why you deserve to have your name as a prefix on all your stupid crappy games?

Loved the original of this game, played it through a couple of times. It wasn't a huge hit as I recall but definately worth a play. Try and pick it up on ebay if you can it will probably run on your laptop. Looking forward to seeing what he does with the current generation of consoles.

Alice in Wonderland is already significantly twisted and fucked up, American Mcgee did less to make it 'dark and edgy' than to provide a counterpoint to the saccarine Disney and BBC adaptations.

The first Alice game was interesting, but spoilt by awkward keyboard-and-mouse controls that weren't far enough removed from the Quake 3 engine's original ones (although the projected footprints for wjere you jump to were a nice innovation), and gameplay that tended towards being an FPS with ineffective weapons at times. If they target consoles principally and use the familiar modern platform game mechanics, then a re-tread of what they tried back in 2001 would be welcome.

... but Bad Day LA suffered from appalling controls, so I'd worry that this will go the same way.

"Quake reskin" from those who never even saw let alone played it I see.

It used the Quake 2 engine and was a 3rd person platformer. What's wrong with that, exactly?

It always irritates me how feels the need to put his name in the title.

All you 'reskinned quake' idiots can be quiet. The original is still one of the most imaginative and beautiful games I've ever seen relative to the tech it uses. Outstanding music too, still lurks in my playlist. Seems like the trailer points to a sequel, not a remake - good news in my opinion, there's plenty that could be done with Carroll's universe that never got done originally. The combat was never that special (except the jacks, they were brutal), but it was always about the world and the atmosphere, not the fighting. Retain the beauty, lose the boss fights and put more scope for exploration in there and you'll have one hell of a good game.

Amazing that this American MCGee keeps getting people to give him money for crap games. Anyone remember "Bad DAy in LA"?
