Amazon vouchers for LOTRO recruitment News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

4 February, 2009

Codemasters is taking a new tack on MMO recruitment programmes by offering Amazon vouchers worth 5 euros or pounds for every friend Lord of the Rings Online players bring to the game.

In an effort to one-up the in-game advantages offered by Blizzard for World of Warcraft rectuiters - an exclusive mount and levelling boost - Codemasters is offering rewards in the real world instead.

The programme, launching today, is open to all LOTRO players who sign up at the referral page of the official site and hand over some friends' email addresses. For each friend who converts the proffered free trial (and reduced-price digital download) into a subscription, the original player will get the GBP 5 or EUR 5 voucher for the popular online store.

Lord of the Rings Online launched its first (excellent) expansion, Mines of Moria, late last year. You can read a review and more at the Mines of Moria gamepage.

Or you could just shop on play.com, as Amazon will probably charge you £5 in delivery fees...

That said, LOTRO is fucking brilliant so give it a go.

Play.com (seeing this is EUROgamer) has stopped being interesting to anybody outside the UK imo. Their exchange rate is still about 1.4 while amazon uses the real rate. Which is fair.

on topic, why not.. It can only help spread the word about quite a good game.

Well, I can only speak as I find but I've always been disappointed with Amazon's pricing and selection compared to play.com, who've never let me down or disappointed.

But yeah, if it gets more people playing, why not indeed?

Between the two, id take what blizzard are giving thanks, I mean £5, or something that aids you in game for potentially a long time? £5 doesnt go very far at all.

Oh jeez, you just reminded me: I dreamed I was playing AoC last night...

No wonder I'm so grouchy this morning.

I have an account with Lotro from when I got it two years ago. Is it worth resubbing it now perhaps?

I think Codemasters are doing a "Come back to LOTRO" offer for former subscribers at the moment, Lev.

You should give it a try as I think you'll find there's a tonne of new content that's been introduced over the last year or so and I'd say it's definitely one of the most interesting MMOs around at the moment.
