Alone in the Dark pushed back to June

Atari wants game looking its best.

Atari has told Eurogamer that it is pushing the release of Alone in the Dark back from May to June.

The Xbox 360, PC, Wii and PS2 versions will now be available on 20th June in Europe and 24th June in the US. A PS3 offering is still "to follow".

The reason for the delay is because Atari and Eden want to offer the best possible game they can. The extra month will allow for additional polish and any bugs to be ironed out.

Atari was keen to get across that it has had positive responses from all who have seen the title, which is very much a flagship game for the publisher.

Former Sony bosstype Phil Harrison joined Atari at the beginning of March, bigging up "the best opportunity that exists in the industry today to redefine, refocus and re-energise an incredible brand, an incredible group of people towards that networked future".

We saw Alone in the Dark at the end of February and heavily recommended it be on your radar as one to keep an eye on.

Head over to our Alone in the Dark preview to find out more.

    Gits!

Yes, smart move. Release it almost at the same time as Metal Gear Solid 4. That'll raise the sales.
  • Prodigy_BE #3 4 years ago

Yes, releasing it a few weeks after GTA IV is a way smarter move.

Alone In The Dark won't be available initially on the PS3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't coming out on the Xbox 360 so I don't see how one would affect sales of the other myself.

Anyway, I'd rather Atari delayed the game as long as they need to if it means we end up with a better quality game. In fact, seeing as the days are longest in June and Alone In The Dark is likely best played at night then I'd sooner they pushed it back to September/October time. Could have been the perfect Hallloween game!

    @ OnlyMe

If you read The PS3 version is coming after so it shouldn't be hurt by MGS4

Edit - Darren beat me to it :)

@Darren. Agree with everything you said. No need to repeat you here. Who wants to play a horror game in the height of summer? [Cue posts from people who love playing games at the height of summer to prove me wrong]. This and Left 4 Dead should be towards Halloween ideally (like Dead Space).

Will be too busy with GTA IV and MGS so I can wait.

Ah, I always thought it was a simultanous release.

    Clackers!!! Big fat hairy clackers!!

I wonder if there will be a game released this year thats a AAA title and doesn't get delayed.

If you're keeping an eye on it then it doesn't need to be on your radar.

BALLS! The tech demos really whetted my appetite for this game. Oh well, Condemned 2 then GTA IV should fill that space.

/|\ can never take enough time for bug fixing

    Fair play to them.

I've got loads of stuff to play until then, this is one of my most wanted of the year so it's good to see they want it to be as good as it can possibly be.
  • myiagros #14 4 years ago

i'm really interested in this game after those awsome looking tech demos.

Hopefully the PS3 version will turn up, just as i'm finishing Metal Gear and GTA.
Big Phil should hopefully give them the encouragement they need to make the PS3 version at least the equall of the 360 and PC versions.

No problem. I'd rather it was excellent, rather than good. Plus I can't see myself getting bored of GTA IV for a long while.
  • mkreku #16 4 years ago

Nooo, I am looking forward to this! Double edged sword though.. Of course I want the game to be the best it can be, but at the same time I'm aching to play it as soon as possible. I guess it's better this way. Still :(

It's the blasted GTA syndrome! Like Halo 3, there is this scare zone around it's release date

Has anything much been said about the differences (graphics aside) between the Wii/PS2 and 360/PC versions?

Actually, what I really mean is: is the Wii version going to be remotely worth thinking about or is it going to be another "like the PS2 version but with added waggle"?
  • tnomad #19 4 years ago

Awww, really looking forward to this. Though I'm happy for them to polish it up more because it's already looking all kinds of aces.

I normally play horror games during the longer nights seasons, and am torn between making myself wait until autumn but then get the blasted spoilers everywhere (in EG forums) or just stay up late and enjoy the game without others spoiling it for me! Or I can always shutter in my basement office (where I also play games obviously!).

There is GTA4, MGS4, Ninja Gaiden 2 to cope in next few months and was planning on getting X360 version of Alone in the Dark but for this occasion I might as well be better off with PS3 if in will be in autumn! Also too many games to occupy my limited hours and no I m not introvert and certainly doesnt have any mental healths related to my unhealthy occupations with the gaming!

Really looking forwards to this game. Shame it is being delayed, but it's probably for the best in the long-run.
