Alone in Dark PS3 delayed

Will follow PC, 360 versions.

Atari has told Eurogamer that the latest instalment in the Alone in the Dark series will not be released on all platforms simultaneously.

The Xbox 360 and PC versions are still on schedule to arrive before the end of the publisher's fiscal year in March 2008. However, the PS3 game will follow later on a date yet to be announced.

Atari gave no reason for the delay, but assured us that AitD is still very much in development for Sony's machine.

Alone in the Dark was originally announced for 360 and PC back in 2005, with the PS3 version confirmed a year later.

Pop over to our Alone in the Dark gamepage to find out more.

Surprise... another PS3 delay. Xbots come out to play...

Well you can't blame them. Why does the PS3 ALWAYS gets delayed???? Must be MS money!

Simple. The install base is tiny. By waiting another year or so, they'll sell another hundred thousand copies or so.

Oh, and it's a PITA to develop for, too ;-)
  • mattigan #5 5 years ago

Yeah that right, its all an M$ conspiracy, LOLZORZ
  • richardiox #6 5 years ago

    The trend continues.

It's ok, Miiguel or Kyron or Sniperwolf will come along soon and let us know exactly what the deal is with this!

"Simple. The install base is tiny. By waiting another year or so, they'll sell another hundred thousand copies or so. "

Maybe... but isn't that a Catch 22? 360 gets stuff quicker, hence more people buy 360s, hence 360 gets stuff quicker,.. etc..
  • gizmo #9 5 years ago

Apparently they won't be satisfied until they get the PS3 frame rate up to 15fps.
  • Vandrius #10 5 years ago

Its nothing to do with install base.

    1) Game started development for PS3 later.
    2) Experienced PS3 coders are not easy to come by.
    3) Experienced 360 coders are easier to get.

    Wham, bam, thankyoumam

eheheh, the PS3 has no games, MS conspiracy! PS3 says consumers don't need no rumble, blame 360! the price too high for what it doesn't do? Wii's fault for beeing too cheap!

Can some Sony suit give these guys an Achievement or something ?

or it could be that the ps3 version was announced a year after the pc and 360 vrsions, so there's gonna be a delay of some sorts anyway....

WTF PS3 delayed. This was one of the games that got me into this so called Next Gen all those months ago. The whole thing is delayed along with Alan Wake Assassins Creed GTAIV etc etc.
  • Beano #21 5 years ago

The REAL next generation starts in Q2 2008 :|
  • woodnotes #22 5 years ago

All these delays laugh in the face of people who think MS 'squandered' their first year head start.

Having a year's head start wasn't just about getting ahead in userbase, but also in developer's knowledge of the system, perfecting SDKs etc. And it's now paying off.

Everyone is still buying Wiis instead though.
  • woodnotes #23 5 years ago

@ Tonka: Alan Wake is not coming out on PS3, it's MS published. And it was always a 2008 title.

PS3 can't handle it so they need longer to optimise... we've come to expect this by now haven't we?

What a difference to 3 years ago when the PS3 was apparently going to change the world with it's technology and all those dumb fanboys thought it was the truth (and repeated it ad nauseam for years after)

Once the system got released they soon shut up.. lol
  • Tonka #27 5 years ago

@woodnotes. Yes I know. I used AW to illustrate how everything gets pushed back. Maybe a bit unfair since no one has ever given a solid date on it... But it was used to sell the "Next Gen" and it still hasn't showed up. I predict a Daikatana or STALKEr. By the time it's out it will feel dated.
  • Xerx3s #28 5 years ago

Beano: You know that by using that term, you are no different from them don't you?
  • jonnyreb #29 5 years ago

Obviously this is due to the fact that they will add so many 'enhancements' to the PS3 version :p
  • Dizzy #30 5 years ago

    >I used AW to illustrate how everything gets pushed back.

??? AW was always a 2008 release. It is one of the big hitters for MS next year and was always positioned as such. MS have been quiet on AW because the have plenty of stuff to show this year... expect massive AW news in 2008. What is the use of rushing your big hitters when you have plenty?

    >will add so many 'enhancements' to the PS3 version :p

Maybe the AitD movie on Bluray!!!!!

Atari will be Ok..they'll get more PS3 customers too...all they need to do is say they've optimised some guff or other for PS3 (Change a texture on a door, take a screengrab) then they'll sell more on PS3 than they would've otherwise, like Colin McRae...that's huegly different on PS3 i hear, enough that PS3 owners want to get it to play the game with higher framerates for once than 360

Could be a good tactic...wait till more people have one, say you've improved or optimised it for the system and that was the reason for delays, sell more..

In all fairness to Sony and the Fanboys the 360 did blind side the industry with both it's release date and specs. MS did a good job at keeping it under raps, it was only like 6 months between announcment and release!

"In all fairness to Sony and the Fanboys the 360 did blind side the industry with both it's release date and specs."

True.. I wonder if some IBM guys leaked the PS3 (Cell) specs to MS? It looks a bit like IBM let Sony pay up for Cell and was never really interested in using it a lot. Maybe they pulled a fast one?

You rang?, the fact that you say I will turn up in this topic shows that you are afraid. Afraid that your PS3 is under performing and leaving itself open for attacks from the swift hand of justice, me.

A hunter hunts his prey for the thrill of the chase, PS3 has become a one legged hippo with no teeth, there is no fun in hunting such a beast.

Call me when PS3 gets back in the race, if ever that day comes. Then I won't feel guilty for hunting the PS3 as it will be able to defend itself. Until that day you guys may as well be talking about the Atari Lynx , it's almost as obsolete as the PS3 but has twice the fun.

  • ParanoidZombie #44 5 years ago

The game is delayed because SCEE's David Reeves asked Atari to: there are too many good games coming out for the PS3 this winter, so they don't want you to be confused about what to buy with your hard-earned money. BTW, FF13 is delayed until 2017.
  • Beano #45 5 years ago

  • Bru-Man #46 5 years ago

  • Turambar #47 5 years ago

The reason for PS3 delays are simple: It's a different console.

XBox and PC can versions can be worked on similtaneously due to the development tools provided by microsoft therefore it makes more sense to concentrate on these versions first.
  • JediMasterMalik #48 5 years ago

  • Lukus #51 5 years ago

Nah, I suspect there's still more PS3 fanboys, just the 360 ones are currently more vocal as Sony seem to have messed up a lot this last year. Whereas, apart from the faulty hardware and Japan, things have gone pretty well for Microsoft. At least software wise.

Maybe but the word itself is an easy conversation killer. Sure, loads of people are just here to say 'Told you so'. But isn't it a truth that the ps3 gets games later in general? So can't people comment on that?

With Warhawk, Motorstorm and Resistance, I'm getting some great looking and lag-free 32, 12, and 40 player online gameplay respectively, and for free too (just naming the games I own - looking forward. For me, that's plenty of next-gen goodness and great value for money. How many 32 and over multiplayer games does the oh so renowned for its (expensive) online 360 have again? Oh. ;)

Anyway, BluRay IS awesome. Even for games. ;) We'll see plenty of games using 20Gb or more very soon. Then we can move the discussion to the point whether these games are any good, rather than the console. ;) I mean it's great and all that the 360 is doing well, but all the knocking the PS3 ... I'm sure that once Unreal Tournament PS3 is out there, all the UE3 and id5 based games will be able to be released at the same time at least, and look very competitively. ;)

Looking forward also to how the use of Havok software develops, as that seems to like the Cell a lot. Right now not that many games use it fully, but in the future it will be interesting to see. Even in a game like Half-life 2.

I'm having a lot of fun online in Resistance and Warhawk also - far more fun than Ive had with any Xbox game online and with far less lag (including Halo 2 which I loved).
Xbox Live have some really great features like cross-game messaging, chat and invites built into it's foundation, but PSN has proved to me that it is able to compete in stability, lag and overall fun... and free :)

I find large amounts of players shit. Somehow it doesn't feel personal. Gimme the the 8 vs 8 dancing matches of UT'99 anyday over the 'Z0MG, HUGE AREA'S WITH VEHICLES!'
Unless a game can offer something really great, I find games with more than 16p bordering on too many players.
  • Beano #59 5 years ago

"...would be better if they were plugged into Xbox Live"

As long as Xbox Live still don't allow dedicated servers in the same extent as on PSN, 24-40 player games (like Resistance and Warhawk) will not run well enough on XBL's peer-2-peer architecture. MS should have embraced dedicated servers for Halo 3 IMO.

Yes you don't *need* it , but runs far better and lag-free with dedicated servers for 20+ player games. But of course no garantee though ;)

XBL allows dedicated servers. There have been several games in the past that used dedicated servers. Most companies aren't interested however because they cost money and don't do a better job at what they try to achieve.

Someone else in the same situation as myself, who has a brain!

Of course, all of the children assume we're Xbox fanboys, becuase we refuse to be ripped off paying for Sony to get richer.

Yeah, so I'm an Xbox fanboy with a PSP in my inside pocket, a Sony Ericsson W880i, Sony Cybershot camera, Sony Trinitron TV, and a PS2 with a huge library of games.

No, I'm just not emptying my bank account into Sony's for the next 5 years, in return for a Trojan Horse BluRay box. I'll get a BluRay player if and when I'm ready.

Games console first, please Sony, or it's no sale.
  • Katsumoto #64 5 years ago

I don't even own a ps3, but I still get blazed by the 360 owners all the time. What's the world coming to?
  • Monkey_Puncher #65 5 years ago

Battlefield Modern Combat on 360 had dedicated servers, same with Saints Row.

Perfect Dark Zero didn't have dedicated servers but could run 32 players with absoloutly no lag on massive maps on most connections. God knows how it pulled that off!
  • RexRunti #66 5 years ago

    @Monkey_Puncher

By concentrating all their development time on that one area and ignoring, you know, the game?

    Was quite fun co-op though.
  • weaselrat #67 5 years ago

I own both these machines and for comparison i've been renting PS3 copies of my 360 games. I have to say as much as I like both machines...........There is not one PS3 port that looks as good as it does on my 360. Most of them lack polish and struggle when you up the resolution. Rainbow six looks blurry played in max res on my PS3, Darkness looks jagged. Overall the Xbox 360 has more of a polished look to the games and considering they are all released before the PS 3 versions, you would think that it would be the other way around.
Anyone thinking about getting the PS3 should just hangfire on it. To say i'm dissapointed is putting it mildly. The sixaxis is a poor gimick that is pants on most games. (not bad on warhawk i hear). Wii has the motion stuff wacked and I can't help but feel too little too late for my PS3.
Also anyone who says you don't miss the rumble in their pads are lying to. Shooting someone or driving into a wall just doesn't feel the same.
I really hope they sort it out or it may well have to go up for sale. :-(

Err...yeah but Sony has more games in development than both Nintendo and Micrsoft...and does anyone believe that Blu-ray wont be an advantage for PS3 developers over the next 5 years? Mark Rein has already said that that the extra legroom in terms of storage is beneficial for developers, while DVD is a limitation that has to be worked around.

Sony's Blu-ray has not taken off. The fact it is it's not long before Super Hi Def is here, and will be on every Tv Resolution, and most sure on the next gen consoles.
  • Vic #72 5 years ago

But how does Super Hi Def help the 360, and its 7.2GB DVD's? It doesnt.

GT5 vs FORZA RACING (best sim racer at the moment) & PGR4, FFIII vs MASS EFFECT, LOST ODDYSEE, STAR WARS KOTOR, CRY-ON...MGS vs SPLINTER CELL CONVECTION.

The thing is FF and MGS have been rumored, or could appear on 360. Though none of the 360 games will ever appear on PS3. Also the fact is 360 is not fighting HD era, and still can operate using duel(x4)layered disc - which is more then enough space for any sort of game, and can continue to use all the way untill the next gen consoles start to appear. Unlike Sony which is depending on Blu-ray, which no one seem bothered with: which won't last once Super Hi-Def is around. Panasonic, Pioneer, Phillips etc already heading this way for there new generation tvs - 2011.

Does that even make sense? Well either way, its still 7.2GB as stated above.

Oh, and Square have already said FF XIII and FF XIII Versus, will not be coming to the 360. If MGS 4 does come, chances are it will be a watered down version since Kojima has already spoken about it being in excess of 20GB, (which I guess throws your 'which is more then enough space for any sort of game' argument out of the windown.

Oh and Splinter Cell is coming to PS3.

Everyone know this--except 'The Truth' obviously.
  • Xerx3s #77 5 years ago

Tyedyed: The irony of your post is that you can be branded as a SDF. But then again, name-calling is rather petty imo.

As for the MP argument: Call it whatever you want, I have been playing MP for a very long time now and when you want a game where the team is manageable towards an objective, 8 players per team is as big as it will get. Pure and simple. Anything bigger than that is just a feeding ground to chaos, subgroups and complete loners. And that, by all definitions, never results in fun.
But hey, wtf do I know, right? After all, I disagree with you so I must be an xbot.
  • Shonuff #78 5 years ago

You nailed that one, xerxes. I'm a bit worried about the 4 player coop in Halo already, as it only takes one loser running ahead of the pack to ruin the experience for the other three. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a coop game with 4 people before, with the possible exception of Serious Sam or Swat, and even there that was the absolute max I wanted to play with.

More people equals less fun, to me anyway. Until game developers come up with a way to coerce people to cooperate and truly play together, I'll stay away from the large hordes online.
  • Kryon #79 5 years ago

    Once again, PS3lol.
  • Tyedyed #80 5 years ago

Xerxes> frankly I couldnt give a stuff if anyone thinks im "SDF", I dont even own a PS3 and doubt ill be able to afford one anytime soon with the ridiculous number of great games coming out before xmas for the 360.

For all the criticisms and predictions that PSN was going to be shite, it seems remarkably capable at hosting large multiplayer games with more players than is the norm for xbox live. Xbots can go on all they like about how they dont like large multiplayer games, but its a feather in the cap for PSN.

Oh, and ive been playing MP for a "very" long time too and I love the larger battles you get in the likes of Battlefield and Planetside.
  • weaselrat #81 5 years ago

Larger battles are only good with the right people. I can never find the right people on PSN, I can on XBOX LIVE. I know you have to pay for it but the whole set up of live, friends, players list, match searching. It's all a hundred times better on LIVE. Yes I can say this, yes I do own both and Yes your momma does love me.
