All NXE preview sign-ups get it early

If you applied properly, you're in.

Microsoft has revealed that if you signed up for the New Xbox Experience preview programme but didn't get in, you're in anyway.

"Instead of adding another 10,000 people to the preview program like we did last week, we've decided to do something a little different: everyone who successfully applied to the preview program (and submitted a valid console ID) will be getting the New Xbox Experience sometime within the next few hours," wrote an excited Major Nelson overnight.

"If you signed up and are not prompted, that means you did not enter your console ID properly and you'll have to wait until Wednesday."

We suppose that's one way of avoiding 14 million people going on the internet tomorrow to download a ****load of data at once.

Check out our New Xbox Experience page for hands-on impressions of the new interface, videos of it in action and the latest screenshots and other info.

Or, if you signed up, just turn on your Xbox 360. Otherwise you'll see it go live tomorrow morning. I've already bagsied the gold chain for my Avatar so you can't have that.

    No, it means that your site was broken. Feckers.

    Anyone know rough time the update will be available? Just thinking if it is worth turning on the boxen before heading to work to get it during the day.

    Wouldn't help as it will ask for confirmation before downloading.

    As I said before I hardly think letting 50,000 (100,000?) people have access to NXE early will ease server strain when the bulk of the 14 million LIVE users likely try to download it from tomorrow. It's been heavily advertised so almost every Xbox 360 will be aware of what NXE is and when it will be available. This update is required to access LIVE for online gaming so it's not like people can refuse and wait it out if they want to continue playing games online with their Friends.

    I can't remember putting in my console ID on that site. Does he mean gamertag? All I got was an error.

    Nothing special? It's a huge improvement over the old one. Everything runs much faster and smoother now, particularly the guide. It's neater, less ugly and easier to find everything. Despite the Avatar bashing, they're actually pretty cute, fun to create and make the friends list a lot better. It'll be good to see some games involving them..

    And installing games has some big effects on a lot of games, cutting down load times and improving the frame rate.. but if nothing else it makes the 360 run completely silently, which has been one complaint often used against the 360. Even if you can only install a couple at a time on a 20gb HDD, they install quickly enough to just delete the ones you aren't playing.

    It's nothing you're going to sit and marvel at for hours on end, but it's a great update.

    Would be nice to know when exactly we can get at this... Will it appear at midnight tonight? 6am tomorrow? 9am? 12pm? 6pm?

    I also assume (hope?) they intend to make the update available on a staggered basis by time zone to kick off - ie. Asia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, US East Coast, US Central, US West Coast.

    It would... NOT be good to sit there all evening until 11pm when our Septic friends toddle back from schooly woool and at 6pm EST *everyone* in the world starts bashing the servers...

    I for one hope that I can get it first thing in the morning (if not tonight). I have to work overtime through till 9 tomorrow and that means by the time I get home, the yanks will be hitting the fan/servers...

    I tried to access http://www.xbox.com/nxe from work today and was informed the servers were down. Bodes well... ;-)

    Seems to be working again now I guess...

    Is it me though, or does Mr Pointyhead not seem to understand the (scripted) lines he's reading when he says "NXE: what I like to call the New Xbox Experience when I want to save my breath"? Shouldn't it be "NXE: what I like to call the New Xbox Experience..." etc. The way he says it makes it sounds like he uses the longer form to save his breath!

    Sorry; I should have saved my typing fingers I guess... ;-)

    @Darren

    It's an automatic update so you get it the moment you switch the 360 on, on wednesday afternoon. It's at most a 64mb download so I doubt it will kill the servers.

    It said on XBOX Live last night under the section which blinks red above the number of friends you have on Live it will be available at around 10 am GMT.

    Well that'd be rather fucking annoying since I am a grown up and will be going to work before then... Ah well, I will no doubt have fun trying to access the servers while all the septics are online tomorrow night... ;-) Lets hope the servers ARE up to it, and we don't have another situation like last Xmas...

    @Xerx3s

    +1 on the broken site rant!
